Um it cant be Kilmore rapping on Smoking the herb again cause Dj Lyfe was the Dj then?
nah dude. that album was recorded after Make Yourself (kilmores first album with Incubus). Hence the acoustic versions of songs that were on Make Yourself. Trust me, when it comes to Incubus...i know whats up. as for fav incubus songs to play. "Sick Sad Little world" on guitar (minus parts of the solo cause i dont have a bunch of pedals and whatnot). "are you in" and "privilege" on bass. and "glass" on drums. and i stepped in my friends band to play "clean" on the the Djembe...its actually really easy. i have yet to find a person who can play "i miss you" on the drums though..its very difficult 3/4 |
the bass version of "Drive" is also really fun
|

1 to da 3. That's one of my favourite basslines of all time. And it exemplifies my entire philosophy of songwriting, in that the bassist should be playing the riffs and whatnot and the guitar/keys/whatever else should layer interesting stuff on top, as opposed to the guitarist thinking up his riffs and forcing the bass to stick to root notes. |
The acoustic versions of "Certain Shade
of Green" and "Summer Romance" are so much fun to play. |
Favorite Song - Summer Romance or Are you in?
Favorite Band Member - Einzigner or Boyd Favorite DVD - N/A Favorite Album - Morning View for relaxing Favorite Tour Memory - Don't have one sadly :upset: Favorite Lyrics - Wow this is difficult. Probably; "To resist is to piss in the wind, anyone who does will end up smelling. Knowing this why do i defy? Cause my inner voice is yelling..." |

yes indeed. i totally agree and its how i write all my songs. bass first |
yes indeed. i totally agree and its how i write all my songs. bass first
Aren't you a bassist? I play guitar and I still let my bassist come up with riffs first. In either case I've stopped trying to write songs for my band on my own. It just doesn't work. I now write lyrics, and then jam with my bassist and lead guitarist until we come up with some funky progression or groove, and then lock myself in my room with a guitar, finishing the structure and melody. |
yeah if i dont come up with a bass riff i usually do a drum beat or have a drummer play a beat and then come in with the bass riff. cause when i play bass, 90% of the time i play to the drums. it comes from years of listening to Zeppelin and appreciating a good rhythem section. dont get me wrong, guitar is badass and means alot to the music but can mess up a musicians ego and sometimes mess up a song. and if a guitar part is written first, alot of times it limits the bass and drums
|
Its so much better writing guitar riffs anyway when the rhythmn has been put down. Its like half the work has already been done, that is, having the time signature and rhythmn already set.
|
^ The same goes for chord shapes etc. Once the bass progressions and riffs are sorted out, the guitarist can choose which of 400 chord voicings to use every bar.
I'm listening to ACLOTM again a lot lately. It defines what a rock record should be, in my mind - varied, technical, layered, musical, both melodic and groovy. Yeah. \m/ |
i just think they needed a more technical producer for ACLOTM...Crow was alot of raw sound
|
I actually liked that about the record... It gives them a more "jam band" kind of feel. Like what you hear on the CD was actually played on real instruments by real people. It's a whole different aspect to Incubus's organic sound.
|
I agree with mutant!. I think albums are much better when theyre not hugely overproduced.
|
It depends on the music, largely, but in Incubus's case it's a fresh change. It also implies that they've gotten so good that they don't really need a lot of post-production anymore.
Smile Lines ftw. |
yeah but i kinda think they need to use production for the DJ. but i did like his soundscape on Crow
|
yeah but i kinda think they need to use production for the DJ.
Point taken. |
thats what made Make Yourself so good. they flowed it perfectly. and the dj was recorded well and crisp. Plus, on Morning View when he starting sampling brandons voice and cellos(for Mexico). compare that to the begining of "Pistola". i really like that song but i dislike the opening.
i also would like to see more focus on Jose. he comes up with awesome beats sometimes and you kinda only hear it in the background. |
Coolest DJ work ever: Drive. Every time he does his thing before the chorus... It's perfect. So simple, and so effective in combination with the other instruments.
|
i love his lil breakdown in Privilage myself
|
cuts cu cu cu cuts cu cu cuts the music with so much class cu cu class :D
|
hahaha. i lol-ed
i love the bass line in that song too...its PHAT! |
Kilmore's DJ work in Make Yourself is amazing, i'm not a big fan of his work on Morning View though. The samples on ACLOTM are terrific, especially on Zee Deveel and Pistola.

yeah dirk was a pretty good funk man
|
Especially on stuff like Azwethinkweiz and Hilikus. Good times.
|
My favourite song is 11 AM.
|
Especially on stuff like Azwethinkweiz and Hilikus. Good times.
oh yeah, hilikus man :thumb: |
Hilikus is definatly in my top 5 favorite incubus songs
its fun to play fun to listen to and you can do the "merrt" like brandon the Enjoy version is way better then on Fungus |
the Enjoy version is way better then on Fungus
I wouldn't know, I still haven't heard Fungus. :upset: I'd like to learn how to solo like Mike does, both in Azwethinkweiz and Hilikus. |
yeah
i was thinkin Kilmore should go "Johnny Greenwood" on the band. he's got all those weird effects and stuff. you can see in alive in red rocks all the things he uses and theres alot of stuff there that i didnt hear him use. |
First off, Incubus is in my top 5 favourite bands lately. Everything they have done has been different and still pretty damn good. I think Pardon Me would probably be one of my favourite songs by them, hmm, I prefer their older material though.
Does anybody have Fungus Amongus? I had it but I think it got lost in the process of moving a little while ago =/. My AIM is comptonassrobert and my email is comptonassrobert @ yahoo.com if anybody cares to send it to me =] |
i have every incubus song except the Fungus album (with the exception of "Speak Free") on my computer. just get Enjoy Incubus and picture it without a DJ.
|
yeah

kilmore...Einziger has alot to do already with all his pedels and stuff. Mike should switch between guitar and piano (but mostly guitar) and Kilmore should do all the effects with computers and turntables. i think it'd be pretty neat to get him more involved then just doing samples and scratches.
|
What, like using theremins and stuff? I know he already does, but not to a huge extent... Anyway, when I watched Red Rocks, I skeemed Kilmore has a keyboard in his rig; maybe a Moog or something. If he can play keys, he should - it'd be a cool way to keep him busy, mellow their sound out a little, and give some more solid backing for Dynamike (awesome nickname  ) to solo on.
And he should do the "Priceless" thing in every song. :thumb: |
yes thats exactly what im saying...i did see the keys he had but i cant tell when he uses them...
|
I have a question, I really like "Fungus Amongus" and "Mr.Bungle", both albums I have been listening to for a really long time. Im not tired of them, but can someone recommend me some similar music? I need some new tunes
|
