Well said man...

Not to start a flame war but....
This implied a personal, emotional vent. However, Hetfield can only convey feeling through the persona of the implied "invisible kid" who cowers from parents and rejection in every song, mirrored in the bedrooms of their audience. Such juvenile confessionals as, "I hurt inside/ I hide inside/ But I'll show you," and, "Mama, why's it rainin' in my room," sound ridiculous coming from the mouth of a 40 year-old man. Is this how he talks to his shrink?

Emo bands found the simple process of merely moving from quiet to loud to be breathtaking. They wrote songs where beauty and melody was assumed on the count of clean guitar and picking chords, despite the fact that the two guitars had no knowledge of each other. In Metallica's case, the result was somehow worse for sounding so calculated and plotted in ProTools. ProTools had never been metal. ProTools never snorted ants up his FireWire from the side of the pool while urinating down a woman's dress. ProTools never inserted the sound of a chainsaw into the opening of "Black Metal" off the album Black Metal. ProTools never burned churches in Norway. And yet, ProTools had a major hand in assembling both "American Life" and "Frantic".
Metallica was over after The Black album. Sorry folks.

agreed

kirk_wylde 01-22-2004 08:49 AM

hmm, whats wrong with load _ garage inc.
hmm, whats wrong with load _ garage inc.
Garage Inc is good I think, but it's not a Studio Album.

Load & Re-Load are like Hard Rock albums.....far from the Kill 'Em All - ....And Justice For All days. You might call it evolving, but most fans thing they went down a notch.

Steve DeBerg 01-22-2004 10:30 AM
Hey guys, Im lookin for a tab version of The Small Hours off of the Garage Inc Album
Please help me out here
do you want bass or guitar?

MrMight 01-22-2004 06:31 PM

does anyone have a set of pics (with the names included) of all james guitars that he uses live???? ive searched all over google and i can either find just the names on their own or a few pics without the names....

cheers

guitarded_chuck 01-22-2004 09:21 PM

I have heard many different stories, but is Kill 'em All really a live album? Sure the quality sucks, but their is no evidence of a croud what so ever. Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) starts off with, most likely Cliff Burton, saying "Bass Solo, Take One." That really makes it sound like it was produced in a studio...doesn't it?

Hitroshimite 01-22-2004 09:24 PM

Kill 'em All wasn't a live album.

naboo 01-22-2004 09:27 PM

I have never heard of Kill em All being a live a live album and i don't think it is.

No, it says on the album inlay "Recorded and Mixed at Music America" and unless that'a a live venue, it's not likely it's live. I always thought it was Lars saying the Bass Solo bit.....don't know why.

A Lethal Dose 01-23-2004 12:44 AM

yes, otherwise we'd see about 5 metallica threads a week. in fact, there still are a few new ones from time to time, as some people can't seem to see the official metallica thread, of the other threads have a great enough purpose to not be in this one as whatever the threadstarter is asking/stating would get overlooked quite easily

sacrifice93.2 01-23-2004 10:25 AM
lol sacrifice loves saying case closed doesnt he.

Anyway you say metallica didnt put in 100%. Have you seen interviews with them? They put their heart and soul into that record. There was a lot of ****ed up **** going on when they made it, james off to rehab, new bassist, in-fighting and that is evident in the songs. They wanted to do something different, no matter what small minded f*cks like you thought. It wasnt up to par but f*ck, the last album they wrote was back in like 1994/5 (reload was largely written around the time of load, it was originally supposed to be a double cd release). Thats a long time out of the studio. This album was necessary, if nothing else it has resulted in metallica being stronger than ever live and as a band, rob fits in so well its not funny. Their next album well be brilliant, i guarrantee it.
To answer, I love saying case closed. It's a good way to end an argument. That, and I love hitting things with a hammer. Second, I'm not against a band trying new things, but sometimes those new things don't sound good at all. Besides, they took 6 months in the studio, compared to the usual year. Sounds like rushing to me. Case closed, dammit! :smash:

fleabass2232 01-23-2004 11:51 AM

six months is about right if your not doing a studio album. Besides, st anger was all jams until they pieced it together in pro tools and wrote lyrics for it. But i will say that it was rushed.

NoHero9 01-23-2004 12:20 PM

IMO st anger was ok. not good
i havent actually listened to it since the first day i bought it though.
cant get into it

sacrifice93.2 01-23-2004 02:13 PM

If you'd like a more in depth opinion on it, go to www.epinions.com, search for St. Anger, then look for my review of the album. It will be under the name sacrifice93. Tell me what ya think about it.

Nicholas Sutton 01-23-2004 02:16 PM

Someone has to set fire to Lars' snare drum. That's just the beginning of my troubles with St. Anger.

guitarded_chuck 01-23-2004 06:04 PM

What do you guys think is Kirk's best guitar solo?

I would say either Dyer's Eve or Phantom Lord.

MrMight 01-23-2004 06:15 PM

dyers eve i say

TheUnforgiven 01-23-2004 08:17 PM

The Thing That Should Not Be solo has some crazy wah in it, but I'd say Dyer's Eve

borisdablade 01-24-2004 03:31 AM

i was at the sydney show on 21st and bdo 23rd and i must say it was ****ing awesome. For their solo show i managed to get about 5 metres from kirk, rob and james at different times in the show, the only dissappointment was i didnt get a guitar pick :(. I had like 10 go over my head, was so spewing. I even lost my voice at one point, screamed MUTHERF*CKER DIE a bit too hard during creeping death. Awesome show, anyone who doubts they are the best band in the world go see them live, they put every other band to shame. Perfect sound, great atmosphere, insane crowd...what more could you ask for.

I bet the singer from the strokes regretted pissing off the tallica fans by singing some of last caress, all you could hear toward the end of the set was the wizard of oz thing from frayed ends.

borisdablade 01-24-2004 03:48 AM

Sounds like a cliche review of st anger to me. You say it sucks balls. Yet you give no reasons other than "its repetitive". Why is it repetitive? You dont mention how that it is caused by the subtraction of lead work from the traditional dynamic of the songs. This song is crap, that song is crap. You sound like every other knob who knows nothing about music but has jumped on the hate st anger bandwagon because it is trendy.

blackend_shadow 01-24-2004 04:13 AM

does anyone know if 'tallica are coming to the north of england anytime?

Brando 01-24-2004 04:37 AM

I like:
Hero of the day.
Wolf and a man. Not that I havent heard a lot more songs, but thats my favorites.

blackend_shadow 01-24-2004 11:34 AM
this thread should just die..too much metallica, metallica is already dead.
