Yea DSOTM isn't all about Syd. Brain Damage could be (I never heard it was, but I'll take your word for it), but the rest of the album is about life and death and aging and stuff.
|
Roger says it on the DSOTM DVD.

It may have been inspired by him, but it isnt 100% about him. |

we'll see tomorrow. |

Is it that serious? You act like the world is gonna end if it isnt exactly about Syd. |

I was mostly joking, but whatever. |
i dont have to redo the entire paper, i just have to incorporate "philosophy" into it, meaning i have to use terms we talked about in class, and quotes and citations, instead of what i did which was just a lyrical analysis. ahh well, id better get crackin its 5 14 am.
P.S. does anyone else think that Obscured by Clouds is Floyd's most underrated album. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. |

If so, that could be a major help to you... Obscured by Clouds is a good PF album, although I just got it and haven't listened through it more than twice... I should listen to it more. |
Isn't the wall partly about Syd aswell
|
Isn't the wall partly about Syd aswell
Nah I doubt it, some songs might have been inspired by him, but The Wall is a concept album about a kid/man named Pink. |
Isn't the wall partly about Syd aswell
Yes, it's like 70% Rodger and 30% syd or something. |
Nah I doubt it, some songs might have been inspired by him, but The Wall is a concept album about a kid/man named Pink.
Syd is the original pink. |

Pink is made up of part Rodger and Part Syd. |
Two things
1. Is Syd's solo stuff allowed in this thread 2. I have got Floyd and Zep singing stairway together, weird |
Syd as well? I didn't know about that... where have you heard that? Cause I know Pink's father died in a war, and in reality, that was what happened to Rodger, so i can see a relation there, maybe the insanity side of Pink was a relation to Syd I'm guessing...

www.pinkfloyd.co.uk/echoes click on comfortably numb and then video. :D
Yeah, I knew When The Tigers Broke Free was about Rodger's father... good song... very atmospheric. |
The Wall is pretty much 100% about Roger, that is the way he liked it.
|
No. The character "Pink" is a fusion of Syd and Roger. Also, the song WYWH isn't about Syd. It applies to him, sure, but its not actually about him. I'm in a rush, but I'll clarify later.
|
Pink is almost all Roger, and Roger's interpretation of Syd's mindscape. Hence, Roger can be considered the main character "Pink" seeing as although it is somewhat based on Syd, it is based on Roger's egocentric view of Syd.
|
HeavyRiva, thanks for putting it in much clearer (and nicer) words than me. Sorry everyone, didn't mean to be an *** about it, I was just kind of rushed.
|
Yeah, I knew When The Tigers Broke Free was about Rodger's father... good song... very atmospheric.
I don't really like "When the tigers broke free" It doesn't stand up to their better work very well. |
I don't really like "When the tigers broke free"
It doesn't stand up to their better work very well.
Well I don't think it was intended to be a "Floyd Masterpeice", just a song with Roger expressing his memories of his father, more of a personal thing, but thats why I find it so good. |
what are your thoughts about "the final cut"
I used to hate it, but i listened to it thoroughly and now im beggining to like it a lot more now. |
what are your thoughts about "the final cut"

I've said it before, I'll say it again: The Final Cut is teh lose.
It's a good album if you throw it in the general pool of albums, but... All other Pink Floyd Albums > The Final Cut. |
You can easily notice the big difference with the absence of Roger's songwriting on that album, but it has some good points.. Fletcher Memorial Home is a good song.
yeah, its definatly more of a instrumental album then a lyric album. |

Oh shoot, made an error.... I was thinking of Momentary Lapse of Reason... Final Cut is the last PF album with Roger in it... wait, is that the one with Fletcher Memorial Home on it? If so, then I didn't care for that album much, just the song I just mentioned.
|
I really think The Final Cut is a lyrical album, not a musical album. Lyrically, it's arguably the most mature thing to date by Waters. However, musically, it's very subpar.
