Hey guys, I'm back with faster intrenet  What is your favourite moment in a tool song? Mine is the drum fill followed by the rif in the grudge where he goes on about the grudge then bursts into 'defining, confiding, sinking deeper'

i like the end of Opiate, where its just crazy fast drumming and guitaring. Anyone notice like a little ringing bell in the background during that part? |
Tool rocks \m/
|
Ive been a pretty big Fan of Tool for about 4 years now, ever since 'Schism' hit the Radio. In 6th grade (at the time), I definately didnt understand a lot of what they were talking about, but simply adored their unique sound. Now a Sophmore, everything makes just a little more sense.
Anyways, Stinkfist is probably my favorite track of theres... its one of the only songs i can definately recognize relating to love (if i was to define its meaning), and at about 4:18, the song gives me goosebumps... In conclusion, Tool is a ucking amazing band, and i highly suggest them to anyone and everyone who is into metal and more so, meaningful music. |
My favorite part of a Tool song would have to be near the end of Pus.hit, where Maynard is saying "There's no love in fear. Staring down the hole again. Hands upon my back again. Survival is my only friend. Terrified of what may come. Just remember I will always love you, even as I tear your ****ing throat away. But it will end no other way." Thats just an awesome moment and ending to me. I love it.

Mine would have to be the baby scream in Cesaro Summability.
|
Mine would have to be during Third Eye when he's saying that poem or at the end where he repeasts "prying open my third eye"
|
funny story, well more sad then funny:
the other day i saw kid at school with a tool shirt on, so i go up to him and ask him what his favorite album by them is... he says "what do you mean?" and im like your shirt, whats your favorite tool album. and hes like "i didnt know they were a band....." that dumbass was advertising him self as a tool. how stupid can you be? anyways tool is my second favorite band. favorite song is: disposition/reflection, dont have a favorite album. |
If you made me choose, I'd have to say that my favourite part of a tool song is in Reflection, when Maynard sings "Before I Pine Away" for the last time, then they go into a long instrumental section. That whole part just makes my heart rise into my throat. Intense beauty.
Also, that little ringing bell at the end of Opiate is there so people think their phone is ringing while their listening to their. It's just the band screwing with our heads (as usual). Also, in the last chorus to "Sober", a similar thing happens, and you can hear muted screaming in the background. It appears to be saying "Hey, turn that **** down." You can only hear it if you turn the song right up. Geddit? :D :D :D |
my fav part of a tool song is in disposition after it leads up to the main acustic guitar part around 45 seconds into the song.
|
mine are in Bottom when Henry Rollins is saying that stuff thats just great to me for some reason
And also in Pus.hit when he says "I'd trade it all for just a little, peice of mind" thats just great also, and also the end of Lateralus ,and the one part in the Grudge mentioned earlier and the last part, the part in Aenima where hes saying "f.uck Ron L. Hubbard, and f.uck all his clones, **** all these gun-toting hip gangster wannabes" ect. haha i cant pick just one sorry |
i think the god in the brain isn't a sarcastic/cynical comment against religion, but follows with the themes of lateralus: namely the idea of evolution and progression.
You are god, you are beautiful, you can change and you can choose....this is not a package deal from another universe/higher being - -- we can choose to step forward and through our own shadows. I know its an aenima reference, but seemed to fit off the top of my head... |
APC Q: Sorry to throw this is the pit but out of interest: Did Paz leave the band because of Billy? every picture i see that has the two of them in it shes hanging off him and vice versa, was something going down to make her leave?

I'm pretty sure the members who left APC did so because they didn't like the long time inbetween albums. |
Favorite Tool Moments:
Intolerance - The outro, the last minute or so. Aenima - Outro drum solo Third Eye - Second guitar solo The Grudge - Outro drum solo. This is #1 in my book Schism - Outro Parabola - Guitar solo Reflection - After the long instrumental part, where they go into the "So crucify the ego..." part...Maynard sings pretty slowly, drawing out the words. Chills. And, uh, whoever thinks Disposition has acoustic guitar in it, is sadly mistaken :) |
favorite tool moments
hmm...this is a hard one...soo much to choose from
i like the chorus in undertow "its half as high as heaven, half as clear as reason..." the guitar is uplifted after each line... and at like 1:55 there's one guitar note that will stick in my head forever. and the ending of the song "i'm back down, i'm in the undertow..." progresses to Upohria. i had a strange but absolute connection to that song while stuck in my s**thole hometown trippin on mushies...love that song. and Flood, its like 2 songs in one...truly a bada$$ song i'll stop now before this post gets really long...there's just too dam much |
i would have to say my favorite Tool moments are the bass intrelude in The Grudge, the intro to 46&2, the chorus to 46&2, the intro to the live Pushi+, the intro and verse to Sober, so many more, you cant really have just one though
also, its kind of hard to pick Tool moments when your listening to Public Enemy... |

And, uh, whoever thinks Disposition has acoustic guitar in it, is sadly mistaken :)
I think that Maynards Dick has acoustic guitar in, but thats is indeed the only one that does. My favourite tool song moments. Pu**** - The 3 notes before Adam's crazy hammer on/pull off pinch harmonic solo bit. Just those three give me goosebumps Stinkfist - The main riff, though that is partly because its so fun to play over and over. And of course - 4 degrees - and THAT riff :D |

And, uh, whoever thinks Disposition has acoustic guitar in it, is sadly mistaken :)
actually it does, in the left channel, if you listen to it really closely...it was also in a tab...and if its not an acoustic, then it just sounds like one also, its not like a main strumming acoustic line, its very brief, its like 2 hammers of individual notes (under exaggeration), nothing fancy |
All tool songs are good, intro, outro whatever they are all good.

thats the best thing ive read all day |
good gracious, has this thread just ceased to be? well, to get the conversation rolling again, what do you suspect the new Tool album to be like? more like AEnima, or more like Lateralus part 2 or even AEneralus? isnt it hard to think of a song that doesnt even exist yet? crazy, ok, i hope that gets people talking again
(if everyone has been talking, and my computer is messed up, i apologize for this waste of time post) |
your computer is not messed up....i really dont know what their new cd will be like.. If you think about it all their cds are pretty different.. they go from the extremely hard Opiate, to Undertow which is has its hard moments and also some soft ones, then to AEnima which has many hard moments, but alot of soft ones, and then Lateralus which also has many hard moments, but alof of soft ones... I think their new CD will either be like Aenima and Lateralus and be hard and soft, or start becoming more soft? i dunno....................

danny carey is amazing, he can do single pedal triplets like no-one could ever dream of doing, cept him, cuz he can do them...huueeh
mmmmmm.....to have danny carey's legs...:D |
I was just watching Escape from LA and noticed Tool was in the soundtrack. The song was Sweat. Anyone know of any other movie soundtracks they have been in????
|

Thats the only one to my knowledge. Did you notice it yourself or did DBJ/Stingray notice it on their 3,042424 watch of it? |
I think we should just hope they release a new bloody album first.
I am losing faith in this band very fast. :upset:
Go and listen to track 3 on Laterlaus then sit down like the rest of us. The delay is always worth it. Plus they are writing probably as we speak (then again, knowing their working schedule, they're probably slacking now, if I know the time delay in America) |
Personally i think it would tend towards lateralus in some ways, but every album has progressed and changed in sound so its hard to say. As long as they release it and they dont do a st.anger job ill be happy
