I've never heard Drakkar. What are they like?
they remind me alot of Rhapsody in their orcehstration sense and Adiago, but overall have more of the harsh viking approach than the fantasy aspect, alot of similatities but differnet at the same time. Worth checking out for sure, they only have one album under their belt and its around $15 on cdnow.com . great musicianship and uplifting choruses, not the best but something new besides Guardian and Strato hehe.

RiceMonster 07-03-2005 09:47 PM

Sounds pretty cool; I'll have to check them out. I'm in need of new power metal bands.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-03-2005 09:49 PM

i try and find a new one as often as possible, but i think im running short on them lol.

Shattered_Future 07-03-2005 09:50 PM

I still got a buttload of bands i want to check out.

Lack of funds prevents me from doing that, though. :upset:

Pizza Delivery tips keep get getting a few cds a week :) spoiled single child whos mom pays for his college, hey...im not complaing

Steerpike 07-04-2005 04:06 AM

Giving tours of campus might get me the side cash I need to buy more CDs. For now, I have to pinch every penny of my paychecks to ensure that I have enough money for while I'm at college.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-04-2005 04:07 AM

if your ever in the southern part of Missouri doing a show and ill be sure to see ya :) i go to school there.

Steerpike 07-04-2005 04:10 AM

I doubt I'll ever be there. I'm East Coast and kind of stuck there.
I think alot of the newer breed dont have their own voice in the genre like the older groups did, but the ones who do have improved on the originators.
old school PM would be counted as Iced earth and blind guardian I suppose so I'm right alongside that, I am of course a huge 'force and sonata fan too, so I like a nice mix of old and new PM

Dragonforce is the main reason why I said I'd lean more towards new power metal. :p *Dragonforce fanboy*

But there were also the bands like Rhapsody and Nightwish that swayed my decision as well.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-05-2005 10:39 AM

^^^

**** right!!! Dragonforce are one of the best!!!!!!!!! however i can go from Sonata to Helloween or Heaven's Gate in a heartbeat, so either or i am happy....as long as its power metal i will love it :)

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-05-2005 10:40 AM

I just got one of the newer albums by the german 80's group Nightmare and its defiently more powerful than their older work which was more like motorhead, anvil, tank, etc...blah!

Same here. I was at the music store today, and I was just itching to buy a Cradle of Filth cd (I'm hooked now) and the Manntis album. But I can't. :upset:
Crappy crappy reality tv...it should burn in hell.

Here brings up an interesting question...which is better, old school power metal (Helloween...only example i can think of of older power metal...or perhaps Stratovarius) or new school (Sonata Arctica, Dragonforce)?
Well, I haven't heard Helloween, so I can't judge by that. I absolutely love Stratovarius and I do like Sonata Arctica (yay for Finlandia!) but I think Dragonforce is a little on the cheesy side. I would have to say whichever side Stratovarius is on. They are amazing.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-05-2005 03:07 PM

I own literally hundreds of power metal albums and i can honeslty say that Stratovarius and Blind Guardian (any more popular band) are still my favourites :) never ending joy from those albums, timeless music right there.

The Buttloaves 07-05-2005 03:14 PM

Anyone ever heard of Mob Rules? I don't know if they would be considered power metal but it's the closest thing I have. Here's an MP3 of one of their songs called "Speed of Life" I don't like them too much. There's only like 2 songs on the whole album I like.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-05-2005 03:15 PM

^^^^

they are alright and just alright, nothing to special...i have their album "among the gods" and "hallowed be thy name" and both have their moments but nothing that really sticks out as KILLER power metal.

of course we fucking are, GET ON BASTARD MSN

I wouldn't miss the oppertunity to see dragonforce if you removed my arms and legs and I had to crawl to liverpool like a large snake...

Shattered_Future 07-05-2005 04:31 PM

Ok, this may be against the rules...buuuuut...

Would anybody care to upload either some Blind Guardian albums (whichever you think best) or Ecliptica by Sonata Arctica?

He/She/They who do this will be eternally dubbed as "thine awesomeness"

ExitWound 07-05-2005 06:45 PM

I dont' have any Blind Guardian readily available, sorry. :(

But I DO have 3 new tracks from Wizard's new album Magic Circle available on my website! It's VERY different from Odin, but it carries the Wizard sound very well. I don't like the sound of the snare drum, and some of the melodies are questionable. Doesn't seem to be as fast or powerful as Head of the Deceiver or Odin. But overall, the album is incredibly good.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-05-2005 07:26 PM

Ill be glad to hear the new Wizard cd :), Odin was a preety good speedy album hehe.

Lord Abortion 07-06-2005 03:28 AM

frail, do you know whether the song entitled "the wizard" on BG's forgotten tales cover album is REALLY the sabbath song?

If so I must hear it...

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-06-2005 03:30 AM

Close but no cigar haha. Actually, they covered the "Uriah Heep" song with the same name from their 1972 Demons and Wizards album, which is just as cool as the Sabbath song :)

Somewhere Far beyond, my first Blind Guardian album, my favourite cover artwork and one of my favourite crystal clear productions. Journey Through the Dark, first Blind Guardian song I ever liked along with Bard's Song - In the Forest.

You don't need more BG albums. Those three are their best. ANATO is pure fucking brilliance.
