Classic Rock

ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
I know what you mean, I've always kinda liked classic rock but recently I've grown to loving it. Bands like The Kinks, Ac/DC, Deep purple, The Beetles, Metallica, Credance Clearwater revival, Jimmy Hendrix etc. Pretty much 60's and up was the golden age for Rock

Badmoon 06-03-2004 10:55 PM
Metallica
I'm hoping your not thinking Metallica is a Classic Rock bands, and I'm hoping your not thinking Metallica and ACDC are from the 60's.

Love Dire Straits, they inspired me to keep going with music. Mark Knopfler is my hero. The Eagles are great too. Clapton or course is still god.

Check out Desperado rock not roll, one of my all time favourite songs.

BludgeonySteve 06-04-2004 08:50 AM

Oh, and not Desperado. I mean like less known songs.

And yes Dire Straits kicks some major ***.

amused to death 06-04-2004 08:50 AM

as ive not posted here for a while, ill re-irerate what i always say.....Pink Floyd!!!

BludgeonySteve 06-04-2004 09:02 AM

I agree, Pink Floyd is awesome. Please no more posts like that though.

amused to death 06-04-2004 09:04 AM

Sorry, just thought id vent some pent up feelings. ive found some people who dont appreciate them, or other bands like Dire Straits and Led Zep. It annoys me, y'see

BludgeonySteve 06-04-2004 09:12 AM

Everybody who matters appreciates Pink Floyd. And even mst people don't matter.

StreetlightRock 06-04-2004 09:20 AM

Lol, BTW, what do you guys think of Roger Waters voice? I mean, personally, i reckon its amazing and it fits the music great, but i was talking to a frined of mine the other day and she said she found it very... duotonous. like going on and on sorta. if you dig. I get whats she getting at but... yea. Don't diss the frined, i respect her opinion so yea, just wondering if any of you felt the same way?

DVG.

amused to death 06-04-2004 09:32 AM

David Waters? If you mean Pink Floyd, its either Roger waters or David Gilmour. And i prefer Gilmours, as Waters is too theatrical. Works on the Wall, but not so much on their other albums...

StreetlightRock 06-04-2004 09:41 AM

Roger, sorry

DVG.

BludgeonySteve 06-04-2004 04:15 PM

Pink Floyd is really overplayed. Well from what i've heard on the radio. This one radio station in my city plays them like 6 times a day. And it's mostly the same songs.
And of course there are more hugely popular Classic Rock bands that should be known forever. Like, The Who (My favorite). They make music like no other. Each member was fabulous, all craftman. Or The Grateful Dead, who defined a generation, and started a long line of San Fransico bands. Or Crosby, Stills Nash, and Young. Who in many ways were the American, more talented Beatles. They had it all. For most Classic rock listens, that band is usually over looked, and The Grateful Dead.

I recomend all Classic Rock listeners to listen to these lesser known Classic Rock bands

Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Hollies, Blind Faith, Big Bro and Holding Company, The Mother of Invention, The Lovin' Spoonful, ect. There is just to much to name.
i saw The Who two weeks ago in madison square garden kicked ***

Badmoon 06-04-2004 05:44 PM

^ Yeah, even though there not in their prime they still put on a great show. The concerts are always great usually becuase everyone knows the words, so that just adds to the songs. A crowd that is one and united = Only at a Who concert.

Ephemeral 06-04-2004 09:09 PM

1. The Who

desecration 06-05-2004 03:24 AM

What_the_hell_is_a_guitar??? 06-05-2004 11:06 AM

Jefferson Airplane anyone?????

howz about Janis Joplin?????

Badmoon 06-05-2004 11:34 AM

^ Well, we haven't really talked about Janis, but I brought up The Big Brother and the Holding Company. They are the definitive Blue/Psychedelia band in the 60's. :)

Jefferson Airplane, I'm probably the biggest fan of 60's Psychedelia/Acid-Rock/Blues ect... But the Airplane are hit or miss for me. Similar to Yes, I find them to be a band that can really screw up a song that is going good, but has some other great songs to back the screw up up.

BludgeonySteve 06-05-2004 11:44 AM

I never really got into JeffersonAirplane. But i'm always learning more about classic rock so I would be open to download suggestions.

And yes, Janis Joplin has a very cool style and great music.
