It's definitely "poppier." Devoto spits a lot less venom. It's a great album, but "better than Real Life" is hard to calculate, in my book. They're really close.

ATM 07-01-2006 12:07 AM
Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
Patti Smith - Easter
The Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?

the first two because I'm reading Lester Bangs' biography and it put me in the mood for them, and the third one because I feel like it.

I've also been on a power-pop kick this week. Mostly Gin Blossoms and Big Star.
I read that ****, I read everything I can find with Lester Bangs in it.

Anyway, Fugazi - Repeater is a work of art.

Zappa 07-01-2006 12:07 AM

"Because You're Frightened" is ridiculously great. I love "Model Worker" about as much, too.

Correct Use... doesn't have a "Parade," though. I love that slower song.

EDIT: I guess "A Song from Under the Floorboards" fits the latter bill. It's not as good as "Parade."

ATM 07-01-2006 12:19 AM
"Let It Blurt"? Really interesting read. I can't figure out if I like him or not.
Hmm.. I didn't read that one. I read one which was more of a collection of his work called Blood feasts and something something. It was pretty cool, but it took me awhile to figure out if I liked him too.

Interstate 07-01-2006 05:44 AM

The Natural History - Beat Beat Heartbeat
The Promise Ring - Nothing Feels Good - Ah I love this album.
The Coral
Diamond D

Zappa 07-01-2006 10:39 AM

I was always under the impression that we all just suck it up so that we can impress our internet buddies.

Anxious 07-01-2006 10:47 AM

I always have to do that too. It takes like 30 seconds.

La Revolucion 07-01-2006 11:44 AM

Right now I am digging The Zombies.

Robert Crumb 07-01-2006 12:45 PM

Listening to the Silver Apples right now, been digging a variety of stuff over the last couple days, though. Currently setting up a playlist for countries involved in the World Cup quarterfinals, which I'll be playing on my radio show on Monday. Got everyone covered except Ukraine, and I'm failing hard on that one.

Jawaharal 07-01-2006 02:59 PM

Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400 EP

This is such a good pump up stadium song.

The Jungler 07-01-2006 03:27 PM

Avey Tare and Panda Bear - Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished.
It's a pre Animal Collective Animal Collective CD. Quite astounding.

Black Flag - My War

I like punk.

Anxious 07-01-2006 05:26 PM

My War kicks so much ass. The last 4 tracks are fucking heavy.

Mr Observations 07-01-2006 05:33 PM

My War is very good - Bill Stevenson is a great drummer. I don't get why some people hate that album.

ATM 07-01-2006 05:34 PM

People are stupid.

BillCosby 07-01-2006 06:03 PM

Report card brownie points bought me:
Theres nothing quite like Silver Apples. Whats your favorite album. Mine's probably Contact.
Honestly, not sure. I've got the Silver Apples/Contact thing so I don't really place them as seperate albums. "Whirly-Bird" is definitely my favorite song and I like the first few tunes the most in general though, so I'd probably lean towards Silver Apples. Fun stuff.

ATM 07-01-2006 06:19 PM

I just got my hands on the Beck set from Bonnaroo so I am diggin the hell out of that.

Happymeal 07-01-2006 07:46 PM

Hot Snakes - Automatic Midnight
The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone

I haven't checked out De La Soul and I will do so tonight.

Jawaharal 07-01-2006 09:53 PM

Rock The Casbah is the best party song ever.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 07-01-2006 11:46 PM

YDload 07-02-2006 12:00 AM

Found some great stuff courtesy of an online radio show. Gun Club, Suede, two different Tom Verlaine solo songs, and much more. Always an interesting listen.
