I know Maynard had done some vocals with a female before, but com'on, it was Tori Amos...what the hell.. I want someone that will give Maynard a run for his money, and have a beautiful vocal marriage working.

~daniel
Well Daniel, I respect your opinion, but I think I'm going to have to kill you in your sleep tonight.

I don't think I'd really want anyone else dong vocals for Tool, I'm too used to Maynard.

YouGottaBeCrazy 07-13-2005 10:49 AM
There's a band that TooL really admires called Butcher (www.butcherband.com, maynard also lends his image for one of their artistic photos) who has a female lead vocalist, and her voice alone has that eerie sort of harmonic-Irish-Folk tone Maynard has (in my opinion). Seeing how the band is thinking of having guest appearances I could only hope this band will be one. I would fu*cking rock to hear these two do a song.
Check out the band and see for yourself.
Hmmm, I've never heard Maynard's tone as being described as "harmonic-irish-folk." Is Maynard Irish-American? Actually, what is Maynard's ethnicity?

Mr Herb 07-13-2005 10:49 AM

I think maynard is american of course.

If he were of another ethnicity we wouldve known about it by now.

Six Foot Revolver 07-13-2005 11:00 AM

I am pretty sure he is American and I don't see any links to being Irish in his voice

Syncratic 07-13-2005 11:07 AM

Keenan is Irish, I think, don't flame me if I'm wrong, I'm usually good with these things.

He's got an American accent, I have no idea where the Irish thing came from.

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-13-2005 11:11 AM

This morning, waking up to the radio was awesome...

1. They played Passenger (Deftones song feat. Maynard)
2. They played Prison Sex
3. Announced the vinyl date for Lateralus.

Adam Jones is GOD 07-13-2005 11:12 AM

Lucky americans with your Tool airplay.

Thats one thing I still cant get my head around, how big tool are in the US, compared to here in the UK

Otherside 07-13-2005 11:13 AM

Not very big I don't think. I don't ever here them around here, ever.

Wow....the only Tool songs they play are Sober (kind of alot) and 46&2 (which they played once....last month, haven't heard it since, but it's the album version)
Well Daniel, I respect your opinion, but I think I'm going to have to kill you in your sleep tonight.

LOL No, no. I don't mean for a female vocalist to replace Maynard, but to sing along with him or as back up vocals, just to add depth in the song..

(...but i'm still going to sleep with one eye open :p)

Which leads to..
A female vocalist with Maynard could personify the whole Light/Dark thing, switching off the vocals (Maynard-Dark/Female-Light?) Sounds interesting.
There we go! I didn't think of it that way until now! A bow and much kudos to you *bow* It would make total sense to present a song in this way.
Hmmm, I've never heard Maynard's tone as being described as "harmonic-irish-folk." Is Maynard Irish-American? Actually, what is Maynard's ethnicity?
The reason I say this is because of Maynards' use of tones.

He has almost a sort of (and don't kill me for saying this I'm just trying to describe his unique voice which is hard enough already..) yodel (a hard rock yodel...did that save my ***?) were he can switch from one tone (or octov) to another with uncanny smoothness (he utilizes this very well in Lateralus...and not so much in the earlier albums. Ah, yes. He also uses it in his recent album Emotive on the song Fiddler and the Drum). And Irish folk does some of the same thing (only that Maynard does it in a way that's much smoother and with power in comparison). I've listened to old forms of music, so this is just something I observed.

Then you have Maynards POWER vocals, which is hardcore-extreme irish-folk! :p j/k But you get what I mean lol

So don't stone me! I'm too pretty to die!!

I know you meant for a female to go with him, I just don't really want to hear anyone else singing with them.

No one has ever insulted Tori Amos and lived to tell about it, and I'm not about to let you be the first.

Syncratic 07-13-2005 12:08 PM

I have one of those quizes on Funtrivia.com...it's actually called Tool Knowledge, and is kinda hard for most people, it'd be a breeze for y'all.

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-13-2005 12:11 PM

Are there questions about the members' bios? I doubt I'd know much about that.

I was thinking more about small sound files, like a second of certain songs, and see who can get them right.

Though I was thinking about extending it to a R&M one, if enough people would be interested in proving they know more than the rest of the forum

lol Fair enough. I just didn't think her voice complimented Maynards' much. But I respect your opinion, and I'll have my sword mext to me while I sleep :smoke:

Here's something near the TooL region:

Has anyone seen the independent film Sleeping Dogs Lie starring Maynard and Brad Wilk? I want to buy it, but someone's perspective on it before I do.

And what does anyone thing of Maynard breaking into film with this one and the Bikkini Bandit films he's done?

Sorry if the topic has been doen before..

MJK in movies is nothing to do with Tool. So I dont really pay much attention, as MJK outside of Tool is nothing special (outside of music)

And Bikini Bandits is terrible. They even said it was going to be, yet i still stayed up on Christmas Eve to watch it.

Syncratic 07-13-2005 12:34 PM

Wait...what's this about Bikini Bandits?

Can Anyone recommend me some Tori Amos? What's her best album? (I say this here, cause there isn't another place to say it and this is in topic)

Huber 07-13-2005 12:58 PM
Wait...what's this about Bikini Bandits?
They were the girls in the "The Outsider" video. and I guess it was made into a movie?

Syncratic 07-13-2005 01:05 PM

They made a whole movie of that? Whoa.

Mr Herb 07-13-2005 01:06 PM
They were the girls in the "The Outsider" video. and I guess it was made into a movie?
Theyve made movies with and without maynard now for a while. Mayanrd decided to use them for the outsider thingy

Syncratic 07-13-2005 01:08 PM

Where can I see them?

Mr Herb 07-13-2005 01:19 PM

Futuro 07-13-2005 02:05 PM

bikini bandits = shit
torrie amos is good
and tool is played on the radio all the time in the us.

whoo i catched up.

Esoteric_Creator 07-13-2005 02:18 PM

Bikini bandits is pretty much just sexual humor, fetish, action, b-movie, soft ****. Think **** and guns, but with a funny twist.

In other words, Maynard accomplished one of many men's childhood fantasies to be in **** lol The whle reason he starred in some of them is because of his good friend being the one to direct them in Phillie. And he's about to be in another one pretty soon about the French.. or something like that.

If you buy APC's Amotive DVD it has an entire section dedicated to them. Trailers with Maynard at pool side with a hot girl inbetween his legs talking of them and all. Must be nice lol

It's another one of his kicks and giggles :p

I asked about ethnicity, not nationality. There's a difference. American isn't an ethnicity because the people who live in this country's ancestors came from other countries. Ethnicity involves a bloodline, such as German or Chinese. Nationality is just the place that a person is a citizen of. Obviously, by nationality, Maynard is American.
