Owls - S/T
Maudlin of the Well - Bath |
Comets on Fire - s/t
The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour The Convocation Of... - Pyramid Technology and lots of Unwound, especially the amazing Repetition. |
The F*cking Champs sound like what The Minibosses would sound like if they decided to write their own original music.

The Red Krayola - Introduction
Yo La Tengo - Painful Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Született Lifesavas - Spirit In Stone |

How is it? Currently Digging: Descendents - Milo Goes to College Green Day - Insomniac I'm on a big pop-punk kick today. |
Any good?
Pretty solid album. Probably the bleakest of the early Wu-Tang solo albums, the most like 36 Chambers. Finished up with an Ultramagnetic MCs review, digging Critical Beatdown. |
How is it?
Painful's great. One of my favorite YLT records. |
It's definitely my favorite album by them. A must have if you're a fan.

nice, dog, nice. |
Hum- Electra 2000
I love Hum, and I love this album. Allmusic was a tad harsh on this IMO, but it might just be that I'm blinded in my love for this band. |
A Magazine kick has triggered a new avatar.
|
I've downloaded a couple of songs from Real Life, since you mentioned them a little while ago. They're pretty good so far. Is that the best place to start?

It's the first Magazine record I heard. I can't name any of their first three as best. Incredibyl solid all the way through. |
Oh well, I guess I can't go wrong then. Good show.

Grand Buffet - Five Years of Fireworks
Pure genius. |
Magazine
Built to Spill The Birthday Party The Flying Burrito Brothers |
Grand Buffet - Five Years of Fireworks
Pure genius.
i saw them with Of Montreal in January. funniest live band ever. they kept saying weiiird things in between songs. "if you come up to the snack bar, or as you like to call the "stage", we put some Sour Straws here for your enjoyment, take as many as you like. you know, we're a very political band. one thing we feel very strongly about is that we should replace everyone in the white house with Sour Straws. because wars would go on forever, babies would be dying and everything, but THEY'D STAY THE HELL OUT OF OUR BUSINESS." |
The Undertones - The Undertones
Pop perfection. |
Gospel - The Moon is a Dead World
The Bronx - The Bronx |
Quasimoto- The Unseen.
|
The Who - My Generation: The Very Best of the Who
|
Built To Spill- Keep It Like A Secret
Carry The Zero is still my favorite song on it, but I like most of the other ones as well. That first guitar solo in CTZ = sweet. |
Pipes You See, Pipes You Don't - Individualized Shirts
You can definetely tell it's E6, which automatically qualifies it as good, but it's still lacking something I can't put my finger on. |
The Wipers - Youth of America (could be my favourite punk record, maybe. If it isn't, it should be)
Cat Power - Covers Record Black Sabbath - Master of Reality High on Fire |
The Bronx - The Bronx
Drive By Truckers - The Dirty South The Bees - Free The Bees The Bees - Sunshine Hit Me |
I might go to Aceyalone and Ugly Duckling tomorow night :-D So been listening to them.
|
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
Radiohead - Hail to the Thief and the Bends I like the new SY I decided. |
It's worth a little, so yeah - good stuff.
Spoon - Gimme Fiction (they play such solid, solid music. How could anyone not dig 'em?) |
I might go to Aceyalone and Ugly Duckling tomorow night :-D So been listening to them.
Their new album is sweet. |
Alkaline Trio - Goddammit, Self Titled, and Maybe I'll Catch Fire
Just added these to my Ipod today. Had them a good while but I stopped listening to them. Used to be in love with them and I'm reminded why. I have Good Mourning and From here to the Infirmary but I prefer these. Definitly one of the most overlooked bands ever and one of my all time favorites. |
Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior
I don't know much about jazz fusion but this **** is awesome. |
Man, nothing makes me happier than driving to Neil Young's Harvest. Seriously, perfect driving album. It's also good for moseying
I've also been on a power-pop kick this week. Mostly Gin Blossoms and Big Star.
Have you ever heard of the Flamin' Groovies? Great classic power pop. You'll like them if you dig Big Star. Check out Shake Some Action. |
The Taple-beatles. This little group is so awesome. They're like a better Negativland. Just listening to it is like reading a novel by Orwell and makes you hate the government more than any other "political" music could ever do.
|
The new Mars Volta song.
It completely shits over The Widow. & Alva Noto - For Muse - Showbiz |
Against Me! - Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose
Against Me! - As the Eternal Cowboy These guys are fun. |
I was listening to "One Mic" just before. **** it's a powerful song. Nas is ze tits.

List of my favourite digs from this year (not necesarily released this year, but what I've listened to most/discovered this year)

I'll do similarly
Harmonia - De Luxe and Musik Von Harmonia Captain Beefheart - Doc at the Radar Station Liz Phair - Exile in Guyville Duke Ellington - Ellington Uptown Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli - Claude Debussy Preludes Volume 1 The Congos - Heart of the Congos Elvis Costello - This Year's Model Pavement's first three Wire's first two Amazing that there's really only 1 jazz album that made a big impact this year, but fitting that it's Ellington, I suppose. |
