Had relatively low expectations for this, but after one listen it's actually really pretty good for what it is. Nothing challenging, but not everything has to be challenging.

Been diggin' on the 3 new These Arms Are Snakes songs (posted on myspace). I like them yes, but I dunno. I'm sure they think it's much coller, but we/us/me (the fans) really want the balls-outedness of the EP to come back. They're all going spacey and complex on our arses.

Still good though.

Ok, rebuttal of sorts. The songs are actually good. Really f[I]u[/I]ckin' good. This is definate headphone music, it's big and rising n' s[I]h[/I]it.

Various Artists - Pop Romantique: French Pop Classics

Bought this on a whim today. Pretty ok, Old and new French pop tunes performed by indie artists. Magnetic Fields, Air, Apples in Stereo, Ladybug Transistor, Luna and stuff. Mostly, American dudes singing in French sounds wack, except for Stephen Merritt. But a couple nice tunes here and there. It's ok.

Bic Runga - [I]Birds[/I]

This is great. It's not the side of the fence I usually sit on, but it's still so so solid. It has Neil Finn, Rikki Gooch and Shayne Carter (amongst other NZ noteables) on it. It's so delicate and thought out, but it's not over done or pushed.

Fleshies - Game of Futbol
Fleshies - Gung Ho!

Can - [I]Monster Movie[/I]

It's close but this contends with [I]Tago Mago[/I] as the best Can album.

Sunny Day Real Estate- [i]Diary[/i]
The Dismemberment Plan- [i]Emergency And I[/i]

both albums are probably 5/5, or at least the first one if nothing else

Chad vanGaalen - Infiniheart

Oh, and one more comment about [i]Diary[/i]: I can't understand any of the lyrics except for "Sometimes you see right through me." That's it for the entire album. Yet I don't feel cheated or anything; I still like the album just fine.

Is this a problem?

The Decemberists - [I]Picaresque[/I]

Haven't listened to the Decemberists for a while. Great stuff. I can't really manage to get into [I]It Still Moves[/I] much though. It's decent, but it's just too long and all the songs seem drawn out or something.

I'd take Z over it anyday.

From the reviews I've read about [I]Z[/I], it seems to be more my kind of style. I might check it out.

It's not as alt-country as their earlier stuff.

And it's weird because I thought I'd love [I]It Still Moves[/I] because of its alt-country-ness, but I don't.

Have you listened to Ryan Adams, nacho?

That's not a good first impression of him. That album is completely different to anything else he's done, and it's easily his worst album. Check out [I]Heartbreaker[/I] and [I]Cold Roses[/I].

EDIT: the majority of his catalogue is alt-country.

Ryan Adams is yet to grab my attention.

When I went to the Wires on Fire show, their merch dude talked me into buying their split with them. It comes with a live DVD and the Mean Reds show is pretty insane. A bit more male nudity than I like, though.

Yea, I have Cold Roses and its descent I just cant pay attention to it for some reason.

You should check out [I]Heartbreaker[/I] or [I]Gold[/I] then.
