Lush - Split
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool |
I just put on Nowhere by Ride for the first time in a while. Damn good album.
|
Okay, for those interested, the new Will Oldham/Tortoise record is solid.
|
Who is Will Oldham?
|
He's also known as Bonnie "Prince" Billy. I've heard of him because he did a song with Tweaker [a former Nine Inch Nails drummers' solo project].
I was wondering whether that collaboration with Tortoise was any good. I'll check it out soon. |

Let's just pretend its a gimmick account. Remember when Nacho made "metalicajaymz" and threw us all off guard? I'm sure it's just like that!
Clue To Kalo - One Way It's Every Way
How did I not know about this guy earlier. He's from my city. Similar to The Books. It's electronic indie pop that doesn't sound electronic.
Yeah, good stuff. CtK is pretty damm good. You should check out Qua aswell, I think he/they're round your ways too. |
Lots of Johnny Cash
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers The Holy Modal Rounders Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers are one of the greatest rock bands of all time. Seriously, they are awsome.
Yeah, Tom Petty is great. I seriously need to get into Johnny Cash. This has become painfully clear since I saw Walk the Line yesterday. It was fantastic, by the way. What's a good place to start with the man in black? I've been immensely digging Bob Dylan. Blood on the Tracks, Desire and Highway 61 Revisited all got a spin this morning. |
Good place to start is the Columbia Essential Johnny Cash, then get San Quentin then go through the American Recordings... then go freeeeee.
|
Yeah, I was thinking that some sort of "greatest hits" type thing might be a good idea. His discography is quite intimidating.

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
I <3 The Beach Boys.
Yeah, I was thinking that some sort of "greatest hits" type thing might be a good idea. His discography is quite intimidating.
A greatest hits is actually a good way to start with Johnny Cash, he does have a monstrous back catalogue. Thought, I must say, Live At Folsom Prison is so ridiculously good. Edit - I think I'm gonna get last.fm to keep up with you hipsters. |
I think I'll get a greatest hits and either At Folsom Prison or At San Quentin.

Gustav Mahler's First Symphony makes my life better a lot.

Herbie Hancock's Headhunters is one of the best funk jam albums there is. I never listen to it, but it is great. You all knew that, though.
Now I'm listening to Moondog (the Prestige release) by Moondog. This is pretty weird stuff, but it's very enjoyable. Serene and bubbly and acoustic. |
His first three albums are pretty much close to flawless too, but they're low on hits and probably hard to find.
I bought his first one yesterday evening and I've listened to it all the way through at least 5 times. It's fantastic. |
Is it widely available? I got my copy second hand somewhere. And yeah, it's a brilliant album, hard to believe he had so many amazing songs so early in his career. Then again he was like 30.
I bought a new vinyl copy of it. I'm pretty sure there's some sort of special edition version on CD, too. I don't know though. Edit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000069RIS/sr=1-1/qid=1139198723/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-0603643-5155929?%5Fencoding=UTF8 It's got some bonus tracks. I haven't seen it in stores before though. |

Folsom was where I started and it worked so well for me. There's something really magical about his prison performances. I also bought San Quentin for $7 from JB Hi Fi a while ago, which was a pretty sweet deal.
Now I'm listening to Moondog (the Prestige release) by Moondog. This is pretty weird stuff, but it's very enjoyable. Serene and bubbly and acoustic.
When I saw Antony and the Johnsons they did a Moondog cover. It was really eerie and involved Antony singing a single line for about 5 or 6 minutes. It was really fantastic. Would the record you have be a good starting point? |
Adelaide bands; Wolf and Cub, Fire! Santa Rosa, Fire!, Clue To Kalo and The Adult Bookstore.
And 245 Radiohead songs I got. |
The Smiths, for probably the first time ever.
|
Ween - The Mollusk, Pure Guava, Chocolate and Cheese
Such an amazing brother/brother duo. |
Baumer - How the West 1
I support local Jersey Music! w00t! |
The Dears
Murray has such a compelling voice. |
The Velvet Underground & Nico
It's a fantastic album but it would be better off without Nico. |
Patrick Wolf is neat.

Was it the new, remastered one (The Complete 1969 Concert, or something)? Because that would be sweet. |
