Thrash influenced =/= thrash
No doubt, man, people need to realize that. Just because you're influenced by something doesn't mean you're playing that particular genre.

The Haunted- closer to melodic death.

Lamb of God- kinda groove-ish (NOT metalcore)

Shadows Fall- ehh...metalcore's a sketchy word for them...I just consider them straight up metal.

But those three bands defenitely are not thrash. If any kid who is "new" to the wonderful world of thrash reads this, these three bands are thrash:

Sodom

Kreator

Saxon

Download a few songs by those three bands and then listen to Lamb of God, The Haunted, and Shadows Fall. Then compare the thrash-itude.

By the way, I'm not downing those three bands, I love Lamb of God, The Haunted, AND Shadows Fall. But I know enough to know that they are not thrash.

ThrashMaster27 09-28-2005 07:25 AM

Wait...

Did you just say Saxon were Thrash?

Shred Danson 09-28-2005 07:33 AM
Wait...

Yeah go ahead, throw rocks at me.

ThrashMaster27 09-28-2005 07:36 AM

I own their first 4 albums on vinyl, they aren't Thrash. Speed at a push. Bit like Mercyful Fate in that respect.

NP: Anthrax - Armed And Dangerous

Eh, well I always confuse Speed-ish stuff like that for thrash. Guess i shouldn't.

DimebagDarrell 09-28-2005 09:22 AM

Saxon though they arent thrash are still very good im going to see them in october it would of been last year but Biff's house burnt down.

For no more colour i think you should choose Mistress of Deception personally :)

Oh yeah and Dave Mustaine has made his mind up o nthe future of megadeth he is gona tell on the 9th october.

metal-militia 09-28-2005 01:14 PM
Right, I'm half way through my Coroner write up and decided I'm gonna have a sampler I can send out to people. I was thinking a song from each album and decided on the following...

Spectators of Sin (Death Cult Demo)
Suicide Command (R.I.P.)
Masked Jackal (Punishment For Decadence)
Tunnel of Pain (No More Color)
Semtex Revolution (Mental Vortex)
Internal Conflicts (Grin)

Good choices? any you'd change?
i reckon you need D.O.A on there. :thumb:

MAthiAS 09-28-2005 01:26 PM

And ARC LITE!

metal-militia 09-28-2005 01:28 PM

quiet you :p

Arc Lite is good, but PfD also has some great songs on it like Sudden Fall and New Breed, but i suppose Masked Jackel is probably the best.

MAthiAS 09-28-2005 01:32 PM

First riff of Arc Lite gets me everytime. Though I guess Masked Jackal is probably the most essential, I can agree with that. The whole album is ace, so its hard to choose. But I'd narrow it down to those two, or maybe Skeleton On Your Shoulder instead of Arc Lite.

metal-militia 09-28-2005 01:36 PM

yeah PfD is great. I listened to it for the first time in ages last month, and it reminded me of how much i used to like it.

RCA 09-28-2005 02:43 PM

No More Color is my favorite Coroner.

FatalEnergy 09-28-2005 05:17 PM

I would have picked Totentanz from RIP, but those are all great choices. Punishment For Decadence is my favorite Coroner album. My Gamma Ray came in the mail today. YAY!!!!1111oneone

Me too. There are some excellent riffs on there.

Very nice, which Gamma Ray.

I've always liked PFD myself, although the production isn't so great.

That would be my second favorite, but it didn't strike me as excellent right away like No More Color did. About halfway through the first song it became one of my favorites.

NP: Autopsy - Ridden With Disease

FatalEnergy 09-28-2005 07:40 PM

No World Order!!! I have quickly fallen in love with this album.

NP: Gamma Ray - New World Order
Oh yeah and Dave Mustaine has made his mind up o nthe future of megadeth he is gona tell on the 9th october.
About time. I hope he keeps Megadeth. I don't want Dave Mustaine solo, especially considering its pretty much the same thing either way.

NP: AC/DC - Overdose

FatalEnergy 09-28-2005 07:54 PM

I wish Dave would just come out and tell us instead of being all like "I'm going to tell the South Americans, so you'll have to ask them"

Apocalyptic Raids 09-28-2005 08:16 PM

Yeah. I wish he would just tell us.

Terrorzone 09-28-2005 08:23 PM

He's just an attention whore and will milk this for all its worth.

Freezing Moon 09-28-2005 08:26 PM

What is he deciding? To keep Megadeth or disband it?

Is he still a Christian?

Apocalyptic Raids 09-28-2005 08:27 PM
What is he deciding? To keep Megadeth or disband it?

We will find out on October 9 apparently.

Hope not. Then he could play The Conjuring and Good Mourning/Black Friday. I think he still is christian though.

ArcLite 09-28-2005 08:28 PM

I heard a while ago he wants to get back together with Friedman and then continue touring. May have been BS, but that's what I've heard. And yes, he is still Christian.

Terrorzone 09-28-2005 08:30 PM

I think I read an interview with Friedman in which he said that was unlikely. Its too bad, I was hoping we could have another album with R.I.P. lineup.

Freezing Moon 09-28-2005 08:30 PM
We will find out on October 9 apparently.

Those are two of the best songs.
And yes, he is still Christian.
Bah.

NP: Vital Remains - Dechristianize. (Coincidence, :p)

Apocalyptic Raids 09-28-2005 08:31 PM

I think he asked all of the RIP line-up to both record and tour. Menza got injured and the other two weren't interested.

ArcLite 09-28-2005 08:31 PM

Yeah. Whether Dave offered or not, I don't see Friedman coming back.

Freezing Moon 09-28-2005 08:34 PM

Dave's solo's weren't bad on the last album. I would have thought all the good ones were coming from Poland but that wasn't the case.

Having Marty back wouldn't be that great anyway, in my opinion, because wasn't he part of the reason for the downfall of good Megadeth music?

Of course, it isn't really Megadeth anymore, just MegaDave. He needs to get at least one original member back.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-28-2005 08:36 PM

It was true he wanted a poppier direction. It would also be good for another album because then the other three guys would be proper members.

and then I could say I have seen Megadeth, not Megadave :D
