MRDuCran 04-12-2006 10:01 AM

lol I've never tryed a full cab but when I did my mini practise thing, I just put it slightly to the left of the speaker cone (if you were looking at it from the front) and put it so it was nearly touching the grill, sounded ok.

What about line out?

kurrpt 04-12-2006 10:02 AM

the problem is, i record with a condensor mic, into my GNX4 (dry line) and ive had very little experience with it ya know

MRDuCran 04-12-2006 10:09 AM

Oh right, is a condensor mic the one your supposed to use for amps?
The only mic I know is a Shure SM57.

kurrpt 04-12-2006 10:11 AM

honestly, i kinda wish i would have gotten a shure 57 when i went to buy the thing. The associate said a condensor was PERFECT for micing cabs, as well as vocals.

Condensors are more for a recorded live tone id say. I have no mic stand, so its hard for me ya know

MRDuCran 04-12-2006 10:14 AM

Maybe you could google a lesson on home recording techniques and whatnot.

kurrpt 04-12-2006 10:18 AM
Maybe you could google a lesson on home recording techniques and whatnot.
i probably should, but its really not that man. I realize it will take some trial and error on my part, naturally.

The problem really stems from bum holes on MX. After posting a thread with some photos, i was asked by countless people for recordings. After wasting 2 hours of my life, i decided to post the clips, sayin that the quality was not at all an accurate depiction. After being bitched at and flamed, it made me question my motives to recording something in the first place ya know.

I find myself doing it for other reasons than myself for people that didnt appreciate what i did, or didnt see it as a favor ya know. I dont want to become "sour", but thats is in-advertantly where i find myself today on the subject

MRDuCran 04-12-2006 10:23 AM

That makes perfect sense, I understand completely.

Sounds typical of the people on here.

Silenius 04-12-2006 10:26 AM
Oh don't tell me you missed it!!!

That's the most whored tab since I mentioned it.

Heh. :D
Could I get it too? :D

putridwinds@gmail.com

thank you. :)

EDIT: If you need an all-purpose mic I recomend the Audix I5. The Shure SM57 is an awesome mic too though, my friend has one.

yea, i try not to get upset/pissed at random personas on an internet forum, but it does make me look inward ya know.

I will say that there is a handful of people around here that may just motivate me to try again...

i mean, there was a kid saying that he can get better tones out of a PODXt compared to my Krank. After having a good laugh, all i said was "man, i hope you are dumb enough to actually believe that"

I guess its kind of a good thing that it happened, in retrospect. It reaffirms my beliefs in what i think is right, and it also solidifies the fact that i needn't look outside for affirmation that my recordings/tone/etc are considered "good". Its really a competition of me versus myself

Silenius 04-12-2006 10:29 AM

^I think you have to take the criticism and turn it into a postive kind of motivation for yourself, like you were saying, in those situations. :)

That amp must pretty damn hot if you can laugh at the tones of a PODxt, I'm dying for a better tone.

Anyway, half the people on here can't backup their BS so *DON'T* take it all to heart.

well, thats just in my personality ya know. Ive learned to stay out of that place for the most part. Its just little kids putting others down, so they feel they suck less. I have no desire to do that

honestly dude, the multi FX amp tones SUCK unless you are going to do some serious mixing afterwards. Even if thats the case, you have to ask yourself if its REALLY coming from the POD

Very smart attitude. :thumb:

Anyway someone's always not gonna like what you're doing, it's impossible to please everyone.

EDIT: Got the tab, great work MrDuCran

repcak 04-12-2006 11:23 AM

@MRDuCran: can you remember, some time ago i asked if you can post a run, from the 12 fret to the 3rd. you did. is it possible that it was taken from a CoB song? i played it to a friend and he meant its from a bodom song...

If it was something like that then Alexi uses it but there millions of other bands that use licks/runs lick that. :)

/doesnt know what the tab was, just trying to help. :)

repcak 04-12-2006 12:05 PM

no, its a different one.

i think i will need more time to learn kalmah-swamphell. some days ago i said i reached the 100bpm mark and the song is 110bpm fast. i realized that i made all the time the same mistake in the sweep-part. i'm back at 40bpm and try to erase the mistake i made all the time... its frustrating :upset:

Hate when that happens. It happened to me on the Winter Madbness solo. I had to completely relearn like 10 bars and find a new way to finger it. :(

(And I still can't play it )

No it wasn't from a Bodom song, I made it up on the spot, it was pretty far from anything he plays, it was a typical basic legato training thing, maybe in the style of Michael Romeo.

Also, check out tabs of Yngwie Malmsteen songs, he uses TONNES of runs like that.

There's another, E harmonic minor.

Silenius 04-12-2006 12:14 PM

Haha, when I hear Malmsteem I automatically think harmonic minor and diminished 7th arpeggio.

kurrpt 04-12-2006 12:14 PM

i fukking love malmsteed

MRDuCran 04-12-2006 12:16 PM

Yeah Yngwie rocks.

Damn MX, doesn't allow "coding" anymore, makes my tab look like a big gay.

kurrpt 04-12-2006 12:23 PM

use the regular QUOTE function...

but i agree, i miss pretty coded tabs :upset:

Shred Danson 04-12-2006 12:54 PM

So I'm about to type up my review on Sputnik for Hatecrew...:)

Shred Danson 04-12-2006 01:37 PM

Liek OMG posted!

http://sputnikmusic.com/album.php?p=6189

Matas 04-12-2006 01:43 PM

Good review man!
I just find it too bad so many people consider this their best/defining album seeing as it inspired the pityful AYDY? and that they probably wont go back to playing good tunes like they used to.

Shred Danson 04-12-2006 01:47 PM

I loved AYDY. But yeah, I know it's nowhere near their past works.

But HCDR is definetly the better album...it's more aggressive etc...I think if Alexander was still in the band, they'd still be i nthis direction. He seemed to me like he was the driving force behind the band's powerful riffs. That's just my opinion.

MRDuCran 04-12-2006 01:51 PM

HCDR is amazing!
AYDY is amazing!

Hey repcak, you still learning/practising Foul Body Autopsy??

Matas 04-12-2006 01:52 PM

Yeah you could definately be right. Before Alexander left I didnt really think much of him (as in he didnt contribute as much to writting). But his departure and the sound on AYDY could be linked.

ähm... no, i stopped after some weeks... should start once again, but i don't know if it would be too hard for me... a lot of string skippings... eh... i think i'm to lazy to learn this song.

edit: some two days ago i started to learn "raining blood" by slayer. i can't understand why a lot of ppl think that its an easy song. the intro is, but the first riff

a-
e-5-3-2-0-6-4-3-0

playing at 180bpm is not easy!

The sweeps are insane. Fukking 240 bpm.

He's sings to the craziest stuff, I mean he plays like 5/8 to 4/4 to 15/16 time signatures while singing. And his solos, insane...

MRDuCran 04-12-2006 02:13 PM

I'm learning it now, it's pretty easy so far.

And most people that say Raining Blood is easy, well that's BS, if you heard them play it you'd lol. Most people just trem pick, as opposed to playing controlled 16ths to a consistant beat/click.

kurrpt 04-12-2006 02:13 PM

send me that friggin video

i want to see 32nds at 120 dammit :angry::lol:

yeah, thats it. my cousin started to play guitar with me at the same time. one day he played raining blood... the first riff, tremolo picking. it sounded right, so i said play it slower.
he played sloooow.
"play it a little bit faster"
and he was tremolo picking again.... i said nothing.

Yeah those are the ones I was talking about. Good luck also changing between triplets and sixteenths during that section.
