I've been into Jimi Hendrix for a while now (about 4 months) and he is still the greatest musician I have ever heard.

His songs simply take me away to another place. His solos are just breath taking. His lyrics are thought provoking and inspiring. I love his on-stage antics.
That's mostly true. What albums do you have?

clown_phobia 12-15-2004 04:56 PM

Right now I have Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix, but I will no-doubt be getting his studio albums as soon as possible.

Distant Echoes 12-15-2004 05:01 PM

I do not agree that hendrix was near the greatest guitarist ever...but he was a great song writer. When i actually took some time to not focus on his guitar playing...i realized how great his lyrics were.

My fav song by The Hendrix Exp would probably be Fire. When i hear it, i can never get that tune out of my head

True, he may not have been the greatest, be he definately one of the best. And he was also one of the greatest songwriters.

lunch998 12-15-2004 05:05 PM

Fire is Mitchell's famous drumming song, but I really like his beat in Manic Depression. I'm listening to Are You Experienced right now, actually.

The song or the album? Both are great.

clown_phobia 12-15-2004 05:07 PM

good stuff! If you listen to Hendrix's solo in Axis: Bold as Love - how can you doubt he an amazing guitarist?

jpj 12-15-2004 05:09 PM

I love All Along The Watchtower, it has to be one of the greatest covers ever.

BludgeonySteve 12-15-2004 05:37 PM

Pfft, everyone needs to forget about that Rolling Stone top 100 guitarists list. Jimi isn't the best but he's very good and is one of the greatest people at making music, ever. And that's all that matters.

Plus, live he's much better than recorded. That's not an easy thing to do.

Broken Arrow 12-15-2004 05:39 PM

I like his version of the blues:cool:

Edit-Well who is the best guitarist then?

Woodstock 12-15-2004 05:41 PM

Very, very true.

Blues is one kickass album I love VooDoo Chile Blues. Actually, I love wvery song on that.

There is none. Nobody can be considered the greatest unless somebody's heard all of them. He can be your favorite, but not considered the greatest of all time.

Kreator2112 12-15-2004 05:53 PM

i love "all along the watch tower". robert dylans version is very dull, very boring. it sounds like hes dying in the first minute. although jimi had done alot of covers i still think hes a good guitarist for his era.

Actually, I thought Dylan's verion was good. I think I prefer Hendrix's, but the original is still good.

Stock: The Album.

I also like Hear My Train A Comin', both the acoustic and electric versions.

MalcolmYoungRock 12-15-2004 05:58 PM

Who's seen the movie "Hendrix"??

It's pretty good actually.

They interview Pete Townsend and Eric Clapton which I thought was cool.

Plus, there's some footage of him playing which is cool.

Apparently, Jimi was a HUGE Dylan fan.

Woodstock 12-15-2004 06:03 PM

Jimi was a huge Dylan fan. He supposedly carried around a Dylan songbook everywhere he went.

lunch998 12-15-2004 06:06 PM
Jimi was a huge Dylan fan. He supposedly carried around a Dylan songbook everywhere he went.
Yea, which explains his covers of Dylan songs.

junebug 12-15-2004 06:09 PM

he liked dylan because he like the fact that someone who was a bad singer could still sell records

Badmoon 12-15-2004 06:11 PM

To be honest, Michael Hedges is the greatest guitarist the world has ever seen.

/kinda late

Kreator2112 12-15-2004 06:12 PM

arent they making another hendrix movie with that guy from outkast to play jimi's part?

lunch998 12-15-2004 06:13 PM
he liked dylan because he like the fact that someone who was a bad singer could still sell records
Or because of his written lyrics, which is the obvious reason why he liked Dylan.

Woodstock 12-15-2004 06:25 PM

I'm listening to Badfinger right now, they were one of the best bands produced by Apple, other than James Taylor.

BludgeonySteve 12-15-2004 06:27 PM

I went to buy Workingman's Dead today but it was $26 . There must be some way to get it cheaper. If not, i'll just pay the $26.

Stupid downloaders! This is what you do to the music industry!

jpj 12-15-2004 06:28 PM

i saw it on Amazon for like 14. Best Buy or Circuit City's web site has it for about that too.

Badmoon 12-15-2004 06:31 PM

I bought mine for $13.99 (USA).

lunch998 12-15-2004 06:33 PM
I bought mine for $13.99 (USA).
Yea 14$ sounds about right. I don't how much that is in Canada though, but I don't think it's 26.

Phantasm 12-15-2004 06:36 PM
I'm listening to Badfinger right now, they were one of the best bands produced by Apple, other than James Taylor.

my dads friend john could have been in badfinger. he auditioned and they said he was good. but he decided that he wanted to go to college instead.

With Badfinger's success, it was better that he went to college

BludgeonySteve 12-15-2004 06:42 PM

You guys really suck at quoting.

Woodstock 12-15-2004 06:43 PM
You guys really suck at quoting.
No, I was quoting somebody who could'nt quote well.

See

BludgeonySteve 12-15-2004 06:45 PM

oic.

I think i'll just look around. American Beauty was only $18 (only *sigh*). Future shop sucks really bad for music.

RockAndRoll 12-15-2004 07:26 PM

Got a 3cd live who album for 20 bucks at future shop, that was a good deal.

thickasabrick 12-15-2004 07:34 PM

hey lunch i got Workingman's Dead for 15 canadian.

and about the Hendrix and Dylan thing. Anyone know if it's true that Hendrix hired Noel Redding simply because of his Dylanish hair? I've read that in many places, and i'm sure it could be true, because Noel Redding wasn't even a bass player.
i also heard that when deciding between Mitch Mitchell and another guy, they made Mitch and his competator bring in their girlfriends, and they went with the guy who had the hotter girlfriend because apparently that would make him a better rock star.

those may just be rumours though.

BludgeonySteve 12-15-2004 07:35 PM

Hehe, I would have taken Mitch Mitchell even if he was with a man. He's an awesome drummer :thumb:

thickasabrick 12-15-2004 08:00 PM

ya no kidding....Fire? Manic Depression? those songs are simply amazing.

man the Experience was great.

"I can't play the guitar that well to get all this music together, so I just lay around. I wish I could have learned to write for instruments. I'm going to get into that next, I guess." - Jimi Hendrix, 1970

oh what he could have accomplished.

Seafroggys 12-15-2004 08:38 PM
Hehe, I would have taken Mitch Mitchell even if he was with a man. He's an awesome drummer :thumb:
No ****. I think he's better then Bonham.

lunch998 12-15-2004 08:39 PM

Yea, I just read that Noel Redding was a guitar player before the Experience. He does a great job on Bass considering he just switched to it.

lunch998 12-15-2004 08:41 PM
No ****. I think he's better then Bonham.
I like them for different reasons.

BludgeonySteve 12-15-2004 08:43 PM
No ****. I think he's better then Bonham.
Now lets not get carried away. Mitch Mitchell was great, but technically speaking Bonham was much better.
