I actually agree fully with her. His vocals fail in that song.
fix'd and yeah steven wilson is good but his vocals plain dont fit at all on that song |
They don't.
/Is a PT/SW fanboy....
He's normally not bad (but never great), but in that song he sounds so whiny. I wish Mikael would have done it alone.
fix'd and yeah steven wilson is good but his vocals plain dont fit at all on that song
Ah, I apologize. |
yeah it doesnt go at all with the rest of the song
|
Yeah, maybe you're both right. I love the whole song anyway. I've been listening to Damnation a lot again, Windowpane is such a fun song to play.
|
Steven Wilson's vocals are the best damn part of that song.
|
That song, and more specifically, that part helped me digest Opeth. Those vocals are the only reason I ever went back to the song repeatedly.
I just found some rather disturbing talk on Opeth's lastfm shoutbox. http://www.last.fm/music/Opeth "Most Thrash Metal bands strive for godly musicianship and those that attain it, gain the praise that Opeth sadly attains yet does not deserve." Heh. |
SW's vocals are awesome in Bleak.
That last.fm poster fails. |
I just got Morningrise and am going to listen to it tonight, Have you guys in here bought or DL your Opeth albums?
|
Money's always an issue when you're a student, I find.
Uh...no. Money's ALWAYS an issue. :upset:
I actually agree fully with him. His vocals fail in that song.
Well, yeah...but we've already concluded that your opinions don't count. :D After all, you ARE the one who doesn't like Godhead's Lament, either...crazy bastard. |
Just got Damnation, Blackwater Park, and Deliverence for AU$39 ... I only need to buy Orchid and My Arms, Your Hearse to complete my Opeth discography
|
Best metal band. Period.
|

Bought! Someone being hammered by Mikael for DL ing his albums :smash: |
is it just me or is MAYH really bad production? don't flame me if im wrong, it could be my Mp3's (downloaded) :)
EDIT: what part of bleak does steven wilson do vocals? is it the part where it goes Devious movements in your eyes, moved me from relief.....--> onwards? |

They are stupidly high for a singer alone to do them, at least live.
You need too much of a range to sing all that as it is on the album. I have problems with the higher parts. Steve's, for instance. |
I just got Morningrise and am going to listen to it tonight, Have you guys in here bought or DL your Opeth albums?
I own BWP, Deliverence, Damnation, SL, and Morningrise. The rest are downloaded, for now. |
I just got Morningrise and am going to listen to it tonight, Have you guys in here bought or DL your Opeth albums?
I own all. |
I own Lamentations, Ghost Reveries and Deliverance.
Next one is My arms, your hearse. |
Oh yeah...I own Lamentations as well.
|
I want to watch it but I left it back home. I also left Deliverance and didn't burn the mp3's.
!!!! Dang. I also didn't burn My arms, your hearse. |
I only ever downloaded 2 Opeth songs before buying the entire Discography.
Black Rose Immortal and Bleak. I don't think I ever listened to all of BRI before I bought Morningrise. |
I downloaded Benighted and Demon of the fall and decided Opeth was my favorite band in the world. :p
|
I had both those songs on my comp for ages (BRI and Bleak), I didn't particularly like them
I thought BRI was unlistenable at first. So I thought I'd DL Bleak, to give them a second chance. It was only a few weeks later I was lying in bed and I accidently played Bleak. I was like  This is so fucking evil  |
Well, yeah...but we've already concluded that your opinions don't count. :D After all, you ARE the one who doesn't like Godhead's Lament, either...crazy bastard.
Yeah well... I have the most posts in the thread. Thus my opinion > everyone elses. :D |

Although I just mildly like them. |
I bought all my albums without downloading them first.
|
I never really have thought of SW as a great singer, he just fits what he does.
His four part harmonies and arrangements are really amazing though. I downloaded BWP and The Drapery Falls before ever buying an album from them. Guess which one I got first? |
I downloaded BWP and The Drapery Falls before ever buying an album from them. Guess which one I got first?
Orchid :D I downloaded Bleak, Harvest and Blackwater Park and from there onward I've been addicted to Opeth. |
Yeah well... I have the most posts in the thread.
Thus my opinion > everyone elses. :D
Nah, not really. You're just stupid. I bought Damnation before I downloaded anything else by the group, or even heard the group, and hated it. Then I got BRI, and disliked it somewhat. Was kinda boring. Then I got The Leper Affinity, and was hooked. It just completely raped everything else I had at the time. |
Nah, not really. You're just stupid.
Yeah well... I'm older then you, so shut up. I got several songs off of BWP, and loved all of them. Then I got the album. And went from there... |
The first song I heard was Demon of the Fall I believe, which to me was a really good introduction, because I was impressed but not at all satisfied, which caused me to go searching out more. Anyway, I got the song Deliverance and was so blown away by it that I bought the albuum of the same name. I was extremely dissapointed.
After sitting on that for awhile and being turned off of the band, I managed to cajole my dad into buying me Blackwater Park and was blown away by it. It goes from there. |
Yeah well... I'm older then you, so shut up.
*Checks age* *Checks Join Date* I CLAIM THIS THREAD OK MY OPINION IS VALID AND AWESOME THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I got a mash of The moor, Deliverance, Credence (which I thought were together in the same album, silly toejam), Weakness (which I didn't like in the beginning), Bleak and The drapery falls. yeah. |
I downloaded Benighted and Demon of the fall and decided Opeth was my favorite band in the world. :p
Benighted has my favorite guitar solo ever. MMMMM makes me want to lick still life. |
If age is the only thing that matters I from now on claim this thread.
My first song I heard must have been April Ethereal, since it's the first real song off of MAYH. Awesome song. |

So true. I'll still let you post in here, Tojes, since I like you. :D |
So true.

So, the Leper Affinity at 4:08, greatest part ever?
|
So, the Leper Affinity at 4:08, greatest part ever?
Hmm... remind me which one it is, the third verse? I prefer Moonlapse Vertigo's second riff. That's just a kick in the balls. Such a complete, round riff. And then the acoustic guitars oh man. EDIT: Tell me what riff it is. first second third etc. |
It's the part where the song slows down, and the lead guitar is playing that awesome riff, then another comes in and harmonizes it, and then one more comes in. Just before it goes to the clean vocals/acoustic arpeggio part.
