Hey Zack! How's things?!
post-rock eh? Singing, or no? Wish I still lived in Ontario, hahah. Is Capital H still alive, or is the hiatus permanent? I watched the live video for Box a week or two ago and was all  Are you playing guitar or bass in this new group? |
Hey Matt! So long it has been. So. Long.
Post rock with lots of vocals a la Silver Mt. Zion. I'm playing guitar in the group. I may play other things at other times, but just guitar so far. Captial H is probably gone. We can call it an indefinite hiatus, but I doubt we'll go back to it. The end went down pretty shitty and I don't see that band working again. Still glad there are people who like what we did. What's been going on in your world (aside from being robbed, which sucks hard)? |

What are you looking at instrument-wise and will you be singing too? Sucks to hear the aitch is gone. What went down exactly? I just dropped my girl off at the airport, she's going back out on her three-week shift and I'm back at the office jumpin' into things. Going to see Big Wreck in Edmonton on Friday and I'm stoked for that. Also, Calgary police called me yesterday - they found my Mexi Jazz Bass and my Stratocaster. Whoops... anyone want to buy a brand new American Deluxe Jazz?!? hahah She's the absolute best though, even though we dropped like two-plus grand on instruments she was so excited to hear two of my three instruments have come back. So all in all, I guess things are going pretty smooth. :thumb: |
Can't you return the stuff to the store? Most places have a return policy.

I would love to make music that powerful, so that's the aim. I'm starting to sing and intend to do as much as I can vocally. Instrumentally, right now we're two guitars and a piano, with some switching to synth, glockenspiel, and kalimba. We're obviously still looking for a bassist and a drummer, and trying to get a violinist. A cellist would be awesome, but who knows about finding someone that plays cello... As far as Capital H is concerned, it ended when we had a few good shows booked and our drummer said to cancel them because he didn't want to play. And we didn't play again after that, which was about a year ago. But that doesn't really matter anymore because I'm so stoked about what we're doing now. Oh, and I'm now working security during the days. Mon-Fri 8am-4pm. That's awesome that you're getting most of your stuff back. |

Around these parts most stores have a return policy. The policy is "no". |
Not too worried about returning it.
Also, R.I.P. Adam Yauch. the world just lost a great bass player. |
I had no idea MCA played the bass. :(
|
I think I've figured out my guitar recording setup.
Dr. Boogie Distortion -> Real McTube tube OD -> cab simulator + DI With any luck, I should be able to convincingly achieve a heavy metal tube amp sound at a fraction of the cost and weight. |

This pedal. Do.Want.(to.build.) Listen around 0:38 for the Sample & Hold awesomeness. |
So how is everyone doing? How is life? Good, me hopes?
|
Instead of the Dr. Boogie, I'm going to build this OLC Slow Century: http://www.olcircuits.com/olc_slowcentury.html
The Mesa Dual Rectifier circuit is based off of the SLO-100, and so this pedal is based off of that SLO-100. It's similar to the Dr. Boogie, but I think the distortion sounds a bit smoother. |
I miss Raayl.

Become friends with him on facebook. He definitely posts there every day. |
Yeah but Facebook isn't really the venue for the ridiculous kind of heated debates we all used to have.
|
Silver Mount Zion sucked when I saw them
I'm the only post rock fan in the universe who doesn't like Godspeed though so maybe that explains it |
guys what should i name my pedal it does clean octave down and distorted octave up
|
arse over tit
|
arse over tit
Oshi i get it cuz it has a fat bass and aggressive highs like a chick with big ass n sweet tittiez |
no, cos the dirty bit is on top of the clean bit
also, it's a phrase, so double meanings ahoy |
That's even more brilliant. I've never heard the phrase, though, so I feel like I'm missing out.
|
it's the same as "head over heels", though it has remained a reference to someone falling over
one does not fall arse over tit in love |
Yeah vouch for that phrase, it's a big one over here.
|
Arizona gets robbed of all the cool phrases. Damn.
|
Stone the crows.
|
pretty sure arse over tit is a british thing originally
we probably shipped it out to aus with all the filthy criminals arf arf arf |
i was interested to see it recognised by one colonial but not another
then again, oz still has the union flag on their flag, whereas i seem to recall the us got all pissy about our fabulous rule |
Dinky di.
|
All this aussie talk is makin' me hungry. I could go for a fat, juicy roo steak right now.
|
I've still never tried one haha.
There are roos up at my dad's place. |
Have you ever jumped inside of its pouch and frolicked through the meadows?
|
Nah man they'll kill ya.
|
But they're so cute and lovable!
|
Well, it's official. In January, I'll be doing the Tough Mudder race. It's a 12-mile run designed by the British Special Forces where they put obstacles every half mile. I will most assuredly be both electrocuted and tossed into a pool of ice water.
|
They had something by the name here. Is it a fundraiser for something?
Yeah wallabies are cute, they're tiny. Full size roos well, if they're domesticated are pretty chill but a wild one can just straight up kick your face off. |
wut
|
I got an EBow. Next step is getting good at using it. Thankfully it's pretty easy to pick up and just use, but it seems like it'll take some practice to get good with it.

It's definitely a charity event, but I'm not entirely sure who the money goes to. I think it's for the veterans. Either way, I'd best start training a little harder than going to the gym only twice a week. On a bass-related note, I'm having some electronics trouble with my Spector. I'm not sure where the problem is inside the bass, but I'm tired of fumbling around with the insane amounts of electronics inside of it to troubleshoot. Should I remove the onboard tremolo effect and put it into a pedal housing? |
Yeah man fuck onboard tremolo if it's causing hassles.
My fretless came with the E string action set a bit too low, had too much buzz for my liking from like 3rd fret back to the nut so I just raised the action a bit and now she's smooth enough. |
