Good man

NP-Dream Theater-Gangland cover.

I really like this NOTB bootleg

crag 03-04-2006 12:30 PM

Their version of Gangland is quite possibly my favourite Maiden cover.

Whoa whoa whoa, I think adding dream theater in there takes down the awesomeness by light years, therefore making Maiden, 'Tallica and Slayer > Maiden DT and DF...

(please note, I despise 'tally whackles)

Lord Abortion 03-04-2006 02:58 PM

You know, it's a testament to your awesomeness other than that, that I don't attempt to forcibly remove your genetalia for disparaging DT
Maiden, Dream Theater and Dragonforce>>>>>>>Maiden, Metallica, Slayer.
Agreed, that would be such an awsome concert.

Have they done a tour with Metallica ever?
Have they done a tour with Metallica ever?
Nope, they have never toured with Metallica. But they have been on the same bill for major rock festivals with them (ie. Montsters of rock)

and btw, Slayer=balls

Newsted wasn't a bad singer though, if you have the Live Shit: Binge And Purge version of Seek And Destroy. plus, he wrote My Friend Of Misery, one of the best 'tallica songs IMO.

but we all know Steve > Geezer Butler > Geddy Lee > All others.

That's because DT and DF have really long songs and your legs would give out from standing around the whole time. I saw DT at Gigantour and really had a hard time keepin it together (they were the next-to-last band playing).

classicrockman 03-05-2006 06:44 PM

Bassists:

1. Steve Harris
2. Chris Squire

As a bassist, I take offense, considering his basslines were subpar except one or two songs out of the three albums he played on. (Orion, Damage Inc and Call of Ktulu were the best "bassline songs" he played imo). His bass followed the guitar, which he helped write only on Master of Puppets (the album). I take offense. Newsted was much better, and only time will tell what Trujillo does with Metallica.

Mr_Bounce 03-06-2006 12:19 AM

But at least for the DT section of the Greatest Metal Gig, for a lot of the songs you'd be standing there appreciating the musicianship. Moshing to DT's soft songs? I'd like to see you keep that up without feeling like a dumbass :D

Also about Myung being named several times, I can't recall too many songs where he actually stands out. Surely he has to be an incredible bassist, having supposedly played as much as Petrucci since high school?

Yes Cliff wasnt as good as the people who replaced, but, he had a totally better personality. Plus he was the one who taught the rest of they boys in Metallica threory. Cliff was just a cooler person then the fags who replaced him. Maybe not better, but personality wise. Thats all i was trying to get across. And guess what? Im a bassist to, so i know how to rate basslines aswell

Anyway.... its sad but true kids, IM has fucked us IMBB users in the butt

Metropolis part one, Hollow years, In the name of God...many many more fantastic basslines.

Maiden's begun recording :D.

Hey,
Seen as though the IMBB has sunk into a state of anarachy and will indeed be closing tomorrow, I thought Id take a wander over here.
What are your opinions on the closing of the IMBB?
Personally I think Maidens Web Fanbase will take a massive hit, as many fans feel shat on with faulty and/or poor quality releases, and no comments from the band when there clearly is a problem with such releases.

Message from Sanctuary Product Manager

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Dave Pattenden and I've worked with Rod and the band here at Sanctuary for the past 8 years and owing to the seemingly technical, random and confusing nature of this problem Rod asked me to explain the situation.

I want to say that as with any Iron Maiden product, EMI and Sanctuary ensure there is always stringent and thorough testing involved to make sure the product, the packaging and the content is the very best it can possibly be. Iron Maiden, as a band and we here at Management pride ourselves on producing such product for Maiden fans.

With the help of your postings and emails we have tried to ascertain what the issues are with the playback of the Stereo Disk on the PAL version of the Death On The Road DVD. I hasten to point out that there is NO issue at all with the NTSC versions of this product or indeed the 5.1 Pal Disk and Special Features Disk which makes things even more confusing as to why there appear to be playback issues on some of the PAL Stereo disks.

We currently have the authoring house, the encoding facility, the manufacturing plant in Holland and a stand-alone QC facility looking into this issue so we can work out how to rectify it. At this exact moment in time it's impossible to give the exact cause, nature and reason for this issue. The product was tested and passed all regular procedures and was also had to pass Mr. Harris's own eagle eyes which is often the hardest test to get past.

We went to great lengths with the encoding of the program and worked alongside one of the lead development and encoding teams in Sweden to make sure that the picture and sound were at the highest possible resolution without causing problems to the most basic home DVD systems. Because of the nature of the show and the difficulties of encoding flashing images, with smoke effects and fast editing anybody who has worked in DVD encoding will be aware of the lengths that need to reached to maintain the highest picture quality and that is what has taken the time on this product. This is why there are two separate concert disks. One for a 5.1 Dolby Digital audio stream and the other dedicated to a Stereo track. Many DVD releases from the major film studios nowadays only support 5.1 or DTS soundtracks with no stereo option at all but as a number of fans had mentioned it we decided to supply you with the extra stereo disk you had asked for and at no extra cost for this additional disk.

Test disks were also distributed in advance to the media for review purposes and no problems were reported, and it was only on Friday of last week, when product hit the shelves that any mention of a problem came up on the Bulletin board which of course rang alarm bells here but with the complex nature of the production of this DVD from filming, editing through to final encoding the origin of the issue is somewhat clouded in that the same problem cannot be replicated from DVD player to player.

It seems the likely possibility is that some players are having trouble handling the amount of information on this disk while other players can 'second guess' and thus play it normally. Each DVD Player and manufacturer is different which makes our job all the more difficult when trying to reach such high standards. I can safely say that I, and others here, have all experienced DVD's from major film companies that at one time or another have not played or have had glitches owing to authoring or manufacturing problems. In those cases often they simply direct you to your DVD player manufacturer.

It does appear from reports at retail that the vast majority of you that have bought the product have not experienced any problems at all, however we of course want to avoid any disappointment for the bands loyal following, no matter how few and once the issue has been identified and solved we will take the most swift and appropriate action to ensure that your enjoyment of Iron Maiden is not affected. Obviously the band and we here at Management want you to have the best as you deserve it and we are working all out to make sure that this matter is identified and resolved as soon as physically possible. We will get back to you then with added information.
I for one don't really care about the DVD, and don't use the IMBB or anything else like that... this really addresses most of the problems, but I am personally shocked and appalled by the attitude of the so-called fans on there. I, for one have more faith in Steve and Maiden than to give up my love for the band because of some stupid communication issue with fans.

I agree with you there mate, but I think there are fans who for one reason or another cant pay the fee to post on a forum, then there are those who wish to use the remaining hours to cause trouble. I had no intention of buying the DVD either as I think the CD release was very poor, but many fans believe the DVD has reached number 1, been taken off the shelves, and thats the last we'll hear of it

And they think that Maiden would just take it off the shelves like that?
This isn't some faceless band, it's Iron Maiden, They prove how much they care about the fans all the time. If Maiden were all about money, they would have jacked it in a long long time ago.

I'd like to know why you think the way you do about DOD...I wouldn't count it as my favourite Maiden release, that would go to Piece of mind, with X-Factor a close second, but Paschendale alone is worth the album. I have the CD of DOTR, and the live versions of Paschendale (Anthem for Doomed youth++) Dance of death and Journeyman, all make the transition from the new album, to the live environment very very well, as they did when I saw them be magnificent on the DOD tour.

Welcome to the forums, by the way.

JamJar 03-06-2006 12:48 PM

Dance Of Death is in my top 3 Maiden albums. I'm loving the new proggier direction they're going in and Face In The Sand is one of my favourite Maiden songs.
