:( only has gp4 demo :(

Yashnaheen 06-22-2006 02:06 AM

Thats really not too bad, just kinda quick if you haven't been playing very long.

Will try to learn in honor of my pre-Fender Soloist ariving saturday.

Amp'd - Download GP5 from thier site, and hit me up on MSN or something. We can fix that problem.

Amp'd 06-22-2006 02:12 AM

should i get the demo or what?

Abu-Abu 06-22-2006 02:13 AM

Man I should really learn some sweeping or something, maybe that's what I could work on.

Anyone know of any good tutorials and some easy sweeping songs/licks?

I learned using a basic Em-D-C-B progression using the top 4 strings of basic E barre chord shapes. I'd start on the root on the D string, downsweep, hammer on and pull off the third above the root on the high E, and then upsweep. Slide to the chord down, and do it again. It's basic and it's melodically grade three, but meh, it's a good practice lick.

When you get good at that, you can try sweep-taps by tapping the fifth on the high E

Yashnaheen 06-22-2006 02:19 AM
should i get the demo or what?
Yeah. The demo is actually the same as the full package, just no serial to 'activate' it long term, export wav files and stuff.

Amp'd 06-22-2006 02:20 AM

I dont really sweep stuff like that i just do melodies that need sweeps to be played etc. buit i guess thats just me. I love doing sweep taps.

I was just looking at that one chicken picking thread and it made me remember that one Buckethead song, with the video and the guy from SOAD, anyone remember the name? I wanna find it again, it was so funny/weird/awesome.

The timing's not completely right (should be 16th-note triplets and shouldn't go back to the root on the D before going to the root of the next chord) but the shapes are there with the fifths too.

Also, when you get the actual technique down and you want to try some cooler sounding stuff that's familiar to you and also more of a challenge, try the arpeggios in 'the psalm of lydia' and 'this godless endevour' by Nevermore. TBF and I enjoy talking about how much of a prick jeff loomis is over emessen because he can sweep stuff like that so well. Even if you do it slowly, it's a great finger workout.

Also check out Jason Becker's 'altitudes'.

Abu-Abu 06-22-2006 03:15 AM

Yeah that's what made me start wanting to learn some, man this thread is helpfull to me, I get to ask my non thread worthy questions and get them answered since so many people come here, yay.

Dylan S 06-22-2006 03:20 AM

That's exactly right mate.

This Godless Endevour arps pwned me just before. I attempted them for the first time. The shapes themselves aren't too hard, and the stretching I found ok (because my guitar is quite a small scale I suppose), but getting the speed Loomis has is crazy. It's still fun sweeping cool sounding arpeggios through. I found the Psalm of Lydia arps harder because they had tapping in them, plus a 6 string major arp.

Kwash2 06-22-2006 03:45 AM

I'm really not a fan of solos that are entirely sweeping.

AG 06-22-2006 04:22 AM

I rarely enjoy sweep solos. Usually they sound a bit rubbish.

Micheal Romeo is the only guy I've heard who can consistently make them sound awesome.

Watche X-Men 3 yesterday, 'twas pretty good. Bit of an arse-up of a plot though.

Very amusing that the juggernaut actually dropped his "Don't you know who I am, I'm the juggernaut, bitch" line.

Bloody amazing that a big budget movie makes a tie in joke with an Internet meme, not the other way around.

AG 06-22-2006 04:38 AM

I've heard a fair bit by Jeff Loomis, and he aint got shit on Romeo.

Don't know who/what Wintersun is/are.

You must be hearing the wrong songs then.

Loomis >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Romeo.

AG 06-22-2006 04:47 AM
Wintersun are a band, you wouldn't like them

Silly rabbit, telling me what I wouldn't like.

I suppose the fact that I hate the singer of Nevermore puts a downer on the band, but even listening to just the guitar work doesn't do anythign for me.

AG 06-22-2006 04:53 AM
How can you hate Warrel? Noone else sings like he does.
Noone should sing like he does.
