Also, a real good Speed Metal album by any band
Kreator - A Pleasure to Kill Exumer - Possessed by Fire Hirax - Raging Violence |
Kreator - A Pleasure to Kill
Exumer - Possessed by Fire Hirax - Raging Violence
Those aren't really Speed Metal though. I mean like something along the lines of Metal Church or old Blind Guardian and such |
If you like Neil Young, check out After The Gold Rush. You may also want to look at his work with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Buffalo Springfield. I'd say After The Gold Rush is required listening for fans of his though.
I should've stated that "After the Goldrush" was the one Neil Young album I had. Thanks for the help there though on his work with those selected artists |
I have a feeling that this should go in Other Music but we all know how much traffic that place gets.
I've been looking into Industrial, Darkwave, EBM etc. but I'm fairly new to it for the most part because there's just so much to get through basically. At the moment I have some bands that I suspect from reveiws and stuff are good but I either can't get a hold of anything by them or I'm not sure of which album to get etc. Faetal Code 64 The Retrosic Pain Neuroticfish Children On Stun Hanzel Und Gretyl Juno Reactor Dulce Liquido My Sixth Shadow NIMP I'm not sure if this is strictly allowed in the thread but what the hell. Which are worth following up and which just suck? Any other suggestions? Also, which Wumpscut album to get? I hear they vary in quality quite a lot. And are Audrey Horne worth investigating?
:(. |
I've never heard of any of that. Sorry.
|
Onoes.
HMV doesn't have a section for Industrial. I complained to the guy behind the counter because HMV sucks. |
^ Why the hell would they?!
|
Don't they just lump 'Industrial' in the 'Metal' section? I know the do that with alot of stuff.
|
Don't they just lump 'Industrial' in the 'Metal' section? I know the do that with alot of stuff.
yeh. there's no need for a music store to have a seperate Industrial section. |
Yeah they do, but they don't actually have anything other than Rammestein and NIN.
They have a reggae section... :upset: Anyways... carry on with the reccomending. |
Yeah they do, but they don't actually have anything other than Rammestein and NIN.
Are you sure? I usually find that HMV has a pretty broad selection of artists from most genres. It's just all very expensive :-/
They have a reggae section... :upset:
Well ,there isn't really much you can lump reggae in with. |
Anyways, someone recommend me a god **** good Speed Metal album!!
|
I know I know... I was just being in a bad mood. We had a nice discussion about Industrial though. :)
They had nothing that I could see except Rammestein and NIN, not even Wumpscut and they're pretty big or so I'm led to believe. |
Anyways, someone recommend me a god **** good Speed Metal album!!
Whats up, Animosity! Entertainment Forums rocks. :thumb: Anyways, get anything by Slayer and you should be just fine. |
Whats up, Animosity! Entertainment Forums rocks. :thumb:
Anyways, get anything by Slayer and you should be just fine.
I haven't seen you there for some time. Anyways, Slayer is more Thrash and I don't care for Slayer at all, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. |
I haven't seen you there for some time.
Anyways, Slayer is more Thrash and I don't care for Slayer at all, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Voivod - War And Pain. Straight up thrash at its finest. Ungodly fast, and amazing solos. |
anyone suggest some kind of metal that's as hard as slipknot and is not industrial or shadows fall
|
Do you like Shadows Fall? If so, I can give you a piss load of similar bands to check out.
|
no, but killswitch is okay..., actually, do u know what Children of Bodom albums are good?
|
no, but killswitch is okay..., actually, do u know what Children of Bodom albums are good?
Bodom, ehh? Now you're speaking my language. Follow The Reaper is probably their best album. It has the best somewriting and technicallity. However, if you're looking to sacrifice a little bit of those for more brutality, then get Hate Crew Deathroll. But all of their albums are great, you can't go wrong. |
mmm..brutal...anyother bands u can think of like that?
|
Children of Bodom - Power metal with harsh vocals.
Dark Tranquillity - Melodic death, check out the Character album. Cryptopsy - Straight up death metal, try None So Vile. Immortal - Good black metal. Behemoth - Off the chain heavy death. Check out Demigod Hypocrisy - Early albums are heavy death/melodic death, later are more melodic Death - The founders of death metal, early albums are quite heavy, later are more progressive. Soilwork - Try A Predator's Portrait or Stabbing The Drama, good melo death. Slayer - Good old thrash, never fails to get the blood pumping. I'll add more as I think of them... |

I fail to see how kreator, exumer and hirax are not speed metal when metal church is. Although thrash, they are still also speed metal. Perhaps flotsam and jetsam, annilihator are more what you mean then, but like metal church, they are still thrash. |
Anyone recommend me some good power metal?
|
there's a genre thread and i'm sure it's got some bands listed in there
http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=166577 |
Manowar, Dream Evil, Stratovarius, Children of Bodom, Norther, Kalmah (the last three are power, just with harsh vocals), Angra, Dragonforce, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Sinergy(more often than not), Nightwish.
I'll add more as I think of them... |
Anyone recommend me some good power metal?
In addition to what magik said (he always beats me to these things :)), Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, Primal Fear, Hammerfall, Helloween, Dragonforce and Battlelore are worth checking out. |
(he always beats me to these things :) )
I can't figure out if that's a good or a bad thing. And actually, while you, and I, are here. Which do you recommend out of Fishing for Luckies? or Fishing for More luckies? I'm leaning more towards the latter. |
Yeah I love Dream Evil, wanted more bands like them. =P I have a lot of the bands you suggested, but a few I havent and I'll check out, thanks. =)

You can go to http://www.metal-archives.com and search for Power Metal under "music genre" in the menu bar at the left hand side. You will then be presented with a massve list, which I'm sure you can happily work your way through. |
And actually, while you, and I, are here. Which do you recommend out of Fishing for Luckies? or Fishing for More luckies? I'm leaning more towards the latter.
Well the first one, the fan club release, only has six tracks. I'm not sure you'd be able to find a copy of that anyway. Fishing For More Luckies has nine tracks, and includes all the 'important'* FFL tracks - Sky Babies, Do the Channel Bop, Schizophonic, Inglorious - as well as a few others exclusive to the release, including what is (I think) the first appearance of Geordie in Wonderland, and an alternate (longer) version of I Wanna Go. The Fishing For Luckies re-release has 10 songs, and also includes the 'important' tracks listed above, as well as other tracks only really available on that album (and also, inexplicably, Sick of Drugs and Red Light-Green Light). As usual, the only real solution is get both :) I think the important thing really is to have heard Sky Babies, Schizophonic and Do the Channel Bop. The tracks exclusive to each disc make a nice extra, though. The tracklistings, so you can make your own mind up in the end, are; FFML 1. Inglorious 2. If Life is Like A Lovebank I Want An Overdraft 3. Schizophonic 4. Do The Channel Bop 5. Geordie In Wonderland 6. Sky Babies 7. Underkill 8. Saddened 9. I Wanna Go Where The People Go (Early Version) and for FFL re-release; 1. Inglorious 2. Sick Of Drugs 3. Red Light-Green Light 4. Schitzophonic 5. Soul Searching On The Planet Earth 6. Do The Channel Bop 7. Mood Swings & Roundabouts 8. In Like Flynn 9. Sky Babies 10. Nite Songs FFML was the first I got, so I'm partial to it. *Sky Babies is an important track because it's the longest they've ever done (11 1/2 minutes), and also close to the best. It was something of a live myth until they played it live on every date of a tour a couple of years ago, so it's got some cool fan mythology attached to it. Schizophonic is important because, apart from a great song, they sometimes play it live. Do the Channel Bop is important because 1. it's effortlessly cool, and 2. Silverginger 5 sometimes play it live. |
I was gonna get both anyway, but I just wanted to decide since I'm going to order the Along comes Mary single from Amazon and I figured I should make it a worthwhile order.
I have Schizophonic already, and SG5 did Inglorious for the BLM bonus disc. I don't know how often they did it though. I think I'll go for FFML. |

Yea, well....They've yet to dissapoint me :)

What would you say is the best Nine Inch Nails album? I want to get one, and I'm leaning towards The Downward Spiral.
|
Depends what you want. For example, The Downward Spiral is more rock/metal orientated, harder-edged material, though it does have softer, sometimes ambient, moments (including the world-slaying Hurt). The Fragile, on the other hand, is more or less the opposite; it's on the whole more experimental that TDS. It's also a double album, where TDS is single.
|
I just got the Kyuss album Blues for the Red Sun and was wondering if anyone can recommend me any similar bands/albums.
