On first listen, the beat for the new Jay-Z single kills it.

It could grow on me though, at first I hated the beat for U Don't Know, and now I love it.

Wrong. I agree with pretty much every classic album you listed, and many of those aren't even close to backpack rap. For instance, the group you have in your avatar has made two of the greatest hiphop-albums of all time in my eyes (being The Infamous and Hell On Earth). Too bad I don't seem able to get into much of their later stuff though... I can appreciate gansgta rap when the artists actually seem clever and get their point across in a semi-intelligent way. Oh, and I'd really like to know what is wrong with Common and Mos Def? Common's Resurrection is widely seen as one of the greatest hiphop albums of all time, and so is Black Star, although to a lesser degree.
If you're to call me anything, then call me stuck in the old school or something, mid-90s hiphop is what I'm enjoying the most out of all hiphop-styles these days.

I have recently gotten into Wu-Tang, especially 36 Chambers. "I'm gunna bang them ****s with a spike ****in' bat!" best line in all of rap, in my opinion.

Old Man and Masta Killa are some of my favorite Wu-Tang affiliated songs. For Ghostface, get Supreme Clientele and Ironman first.

Ok, I know I said I was having a hard time getting into it earlier, but by now I'm a complete convert to MF Grimm. The guy is amazing, American Hunger has to be my favorite album from this year. Crazy in particular is a song I can't stop listening to, seriously that song has major hit potential. If it had been made by someone with more of a name it'd be all over the airwaves.

I just sat through [I]American Hunger[/I] almost straight through (took a 15 minute break to shower). I was rather impressed with it. The lyrical content was nice in that he didn't just claim to be the "Master of Flow" over and over and over again, but his blatant racism kind of got to me after a while. The Monsta Island Czars were the stars of the album though.

The title track is pretty damn impressive as well, as was most No Said Date, actually, that was a nice album. Haven't checked out the new one though.
GZA's second album "Beneath The Surface" is pretty nice as well, although nowhere near as great as Liquid Swords, but check it out nonetheless.

Good album, but how does that count as a Wu-Tang album, though? Wu-Tang affiliated, yeah but that can't count. Masta Killa's is ok, too. Nazareth produces some tracks on it. I love "Iron God Chamber" the most, not the most spectacular beat but it fits perfectly for me. And RZA and Meth absolutely kill the track.

Edit: "Who can take a sunray, twist it to rainbow / toss it upon your head like the Kangol" makes me smile everytime.

I've been digging the new Roots album lately. It's not great but still pretty good and I can't see why everyone has been trashing it so much.

I can't believe i never used to like hip-hop. it's pretty much all i've been listening to for the last month. Especially Wu-Tang and all affiliated artists. Thank god for sputnik.
