Alrighty, i'm undertaking the daunting task of PICKING NEW HATS.

Something to go along with HHX evolution crashes, HH medium thin crashes. Brand doesn't matter.

as for specific sounds, i'd like a semi dark tone, average amount of wash but not trashy, and a defined stick hit closed.

I hope I've made sense, seeing as how I'm terrible at putting sound into words.
HHX Groove hats....the darker sibiling of the AAX Stage Hats....as versatile as it gets...now available in dark!
Hey everyone,

I'm kinda picky when it comes to chinas. I'm looking for a china that isn really very harsh at all. Something that would blend really well, and even have crash-like qualitites.

Thanks!
Jojo Mayer Fierce Crash

The Fiction We Live 08-19-2005 05:00 PM

OK guys, It's time for me to pick a new ride.

Sound:

Strong Stick Defenition without much wash. I would like it to have a strong bell sound as well. I'd also like it to be a semi-bright sound, but not to pingy.

Companies:

I'd perfer a Paiste ride but I am open to ALL suggestions as long as I can get it at Guitar Center ($250 store credit).

Considered Already:

20" Paiste Reflector Dry Ride
20" Paiste 2002 Ride
21" Sabian HHX Dry Ride

Thanks for any help!

bump, anyone? :upset:

***Jojo Mayer Fierce Crash

I own a JoJo Mayer Fierce Crash 18". Its got more crash than chinese qualities and blends really well with other dark cymbals (My leopard ride/HHX Studio Crash/... and even my AAX Fusion hats.) I had to special order mine from GC. I couldnt find it anywhere online. Give them a try.

Imagine a slightly trashy Zildjian 18" K Custom Medium crash. Its got a good amount of sustain also...

If the fierce crash isnt trashy enough, check out the o-zone crashes.

I never played a "Crash of Doom" (Zildjian) but i believe its supposed to be the same general concept - a trashy crash.

MXboy 08-19-2005 07:18 PM

Looking for new crashes. Not sure what i should buy.
Type of music : General Rock, nothing heavy, wanting to play "clean" songs
Already Considering : Sabian HHX Evolution 16", Sabian HHX Studio 16", Zildjian A Custom 16", Zildjian A custom Fast crash 16".
I could get all 4 but im not sure if i need all of them. just wanted an opinoin whether its too many or also if there are others i should consider. or sizes eg maybe 18". thanks

Thanks man, much appreciated. It just so happens that my local music shop has a pair in stock (and they NEVER have anything in stock), i'll be trying them out.

Cobalt 08-19-2005 11:08 PM

My drums just came in today and i'm really excited! For my cymbal selection I was looking into a 20" AA medium-heavy ride. Would that fit in with a 17" AAXplosion crash and a pair of 14" AAX stage hats?

Iskandar 08-20-2005 01:20 PM

Yes it would, Kent.

bobby__johnny 08-20-2005 03:46 PM

yes it would

Win A Rabbit 08-20-2005 04:03 PM

i tried out some hhx groove hats a while ago, and really liked them, but had some doubts towards whether or not they would blend in with my 18" aaxplosion crash and my 17" metal-x crash, and my new 20" a medium ride. they sounded extremely opposite from each other, but i really liked it. would it be a good blend, or a bad blend.

i tried the aax hats and didn't really like the sound from them, i generally like darker hats. any recommendations?

bobby__johnny 08-20-2005 05:22 PM

if you like darker, get darker...but they probably would mesh too well with your exisiting setup

Murd_666 08-20-2005 10:21 PM

K zildjian/custom lines make some nice dark hats, also the HH Makes some of my fav hats, byzance ain't far behind

ZaknafeinLudwig 08-20-2005 10:24 PM

Hi i am looking to get a new ride. I want one wiht a huge bell. I was thinking about the Z mega bell, but everyone on the forms are bashing the Z line. So what are some good rides with big bells. thanks.

stevo30 08-20-2005 11:05 PM

The best in the Z custom line are the rides. I personally own the Mega bell ride, and love it to death. Loud, bright and pingy.

There is also the HH Power Bell ride. It is very powerful, but less "raw" than the Zildjian. More of a refined sound.

Dave*Grohl 08-21-2005 04:21 AM

Whats the difference between a Zil. A medium crash 20" and medium ride 20"? Just relabeled? And what is the Medium ride like? I was thinking of getting it cuz i want a ride that has some ping but also wash and a nice crash!

gimp fest 08-21-2005 04:22 AM

ritey,

i'm looking for a cymbal set to go on my new sonor 2005 kit as i don't want to put on some of my old brass cymbals.

i'm looking to pay not much more than £150-
£170

thanks in advance

This ride is very, very bright and washy. There wasn't much ping at all (on the one I played, they are all different). Never tried the 20" crash, so no comment.

And Logical_Harm

The first one I would recommend is Paiste PST-5. I'm not sure on price though. After that, Wuhan. I would stay away from beginner Zildjian and Sabian.
If you could save up maybe £60 more you might be able to buy an A Zildjian Pack, whihc is well worth it. The Hi-hats you get are stunning, and the ride is nice, but I didn't like it (see above description). Never tested an A crash for some reason.

firstly, thanks man,

well i saw the paiste pst-5 set for about £185,i think this might be a little extravagent for a fairly unacomplished drummer such as myself.

by the beginner sabian's do you mean the b8's?

i saw some zildjian zxt(i think) for about £160 on ebay, is that a steal?

thnaks again

3_times_round 08-21-2005 05:00 AM

Yeah, Sabian beginners = B8, B8 Pro, Pro Sonix.
I think there are normal ZXT packs for £160, ZXT Rock packs are around £190 and the titaniums (do not get them) are a complete rip-off at around £280.

I've heard PST-5 are the best beginner pack options (maybe go for some Wuhans if you can find any in Britain, I've never seen any in Scotland) so I would go for them.

gimp fest 08-21-2005 05:09 AM

well i've had a quick look and found this...

and this...

watcha think?

3_times_round 08-21-2005 05:18 AM

Yeah, I would go for them! Looks like a great deal. So you would still be looking for hats and a ride. I remembered about a minute ago that I'm selling my old hi-hats and ride. Zildjian 20" ZXT Rock Ride and 14" ZBT Hi-Hats. Interested? Around £80 for both?

Where about are you in the UK? P&P might cost a bit.

gimp fest 08-21-2005 05:24 AM

hmmm, i might have to think about this, are they good condish?cracks, key-holes etc?

i'm in louth, lincolnshire on the east coast about halfway down :P

3_times_round 08-21-2005 05:27 AM

East coast too! Except just opposite Dundee. (nearly halfway up Scotland)

Yeah they are good condish (ride has a tiny dent (dropped it on the bus :()) but makes no difference whatsoever, and would only get worse if you crashed that part of the ride repeatedly (which is pretty rare). No keyholes or cracks. They're a wee bit dirty, but I would cleand them first. There is a tiny bit of fading of the logos on the ride too.

gimp fest 08-21-2005 05:36 AM

tbo, i think i'm going to get some new cymbals for the new kit, i'll probably start by getting these

then maybe this

or this

then finally this

thanks for telling me about wuhans, i had no idea they were this cheap,

btw, which would you say out of wuhan s series hats or zbt/zxt hats?

3_times_round 08-21-2005 05:39 AM

Wuhans are compared to Zildjian A's, which are amazing, and ZBT/ZXT are beginner. Get the Wuhans :)

gimp fest 08-21-2005 05:45 AM

cheers 3 times round, you don't need underscores btw

3_times_round 08-21-2005 07:11 AM

I registered my name as 3timesround, but some one had already taken that, so I just put underscroes in.

gimp fest 08-21-2005 07:30 AM

meh...make a new account, i'm sure you won't miss that one too much :)
i'm stuck between wuhan S series and Wuhan rock hats :(

help please

3_times_round 08-21-2005 07:34 AM

Nsh, I can't be bothered with the wait to start new threads (even though I haven't made any yet), and sorry, I've never actually heard a Wuhan. Everyone says they are great cymbals though.

gimp fest 08-21-2005 07:35 AM

no problem i think the s series look nicer so i think i'm gonna go for them

Nightmar3 08-21-2005 08:21 AM

hundurinn 08-21-2005 01:37 PM

What's everybody's view on Paiste cymbals? It seems like everybody are rushing to buy Sabian, Zildjian, Wuhan or Istanbul. :thumb:
What's everybody's view on Paiste cymbals? It seems like everybody are rushing to buy Sabian, Zildjian, Wuhan or Istanbul. :thumb:
paistes are awesome but they are more expensive than zildjian and sabian etc.

3_times_round 08-21-2005 04:48 PM

Depends where you are in the world, ie, they are less expensive in Switzerland (where they are made I think) They are more expensive overseas due to tariffs, taxes and what not.

ZaknafeinLudwig 08-21-2005 08:40 PM

Ok here is going to be my new set up. Two main18' A (med. or projections not sure on that ) crashes. Then Z custon mega bell ride. 20' A crash ( not sure what type need help on that med. regualr. or projection.) and a 16' A crash. so what do u think idk about hats yet not thinking that far ahead.
