I think Extreme Power Metal makes sense, and it's way easier to say than Power/speed with harsh vocals. Kalmah though has a much more dissonant sound than the others, and more blastbeats. It's hard to hear any upbeat powermetal melodies like in the others.

True, Extreme Power Metal sounds good. But I do think they have a little thrash (in their older stuff) and some melodeth in them.

Kalmah is different, but I don't think they are different enough to be considered entirely in another genre.

What about Extremetal? :p

Picked up Dream Evil's "The Book Of Heavy Metal" yesterday. Fucking great album...plus, it came with a DVD that was entertaining. Studio and live footage and whatnot.

Their guitarist (forgot his name) starts playing with his teeth at one point...extremely funny.

The #1 source for lots of music. :p

Download "The Book Of Heavy Metal". Cheesiest lyrics ever, but it's got a great feel to it...it almost has a "march" type beat.

They aren't like....Dragonforce cheesy are they? :p

IheartSP 07-20-2005 02:59 PM

I've heard of the band, they have more heavy metal influence than powermetal influence.

Nooooo...

MUCH much worse. :p

Unbelievable music though.

I think on their earlier releases, Dream Evil had more of a power metal influence...however, this one IS more traditional metal sounding than power metal.

Yet they still have the power metal outfits (ie medieval wargear).

Taste_My_Scythe 07-20-2005 03:10 PM

If the link takes you directly to the Century Media homepage...

Click the audio link up top, then scroll down to D...and they should be under Dream Evil.

Stoic 07-20-2005 03:23 PM

what, he'll upload the book of heavy metal? Dream evil heavily reminds me of Dio (maybe because of their vocalist). Cheesy as hell but still fun.

IheartSP 07-20-2005 03:23 PM

I love having a lot of meat on my pizza, especially bacon sausage and ham.

I love hawian pizza too, so good...

Anyone ever check out Dark Moor? I really like it besides the singing, I'm not much for female vocalists.

IheartSP 07-20-2005 05:45 PM

well I went to www.metal-archives.com to see if there were any bands with the label Extreme Powermetal, and I found this band called Mourn in Silence. It's really good. The vocals are closer to blackmetal than Bodom's are. It sounds a lot like a Bodom sort of thing jsut a bit more symphonic. Go to their site for some mp3's, it's good stuff.

Blind Guardian's already been suggested. So...

Wuthering Heights
Lost Horizon
Edguy
Helloween
Gamma Ray
Running Wild
Sabaton
Savatage

That should keep you busy for a while.

I'm all for it! :)
I've recently been listening to power metal more than death now. I think it's because I keep getting songs and recommendations from this thread.

Steerpike 07-21-2005 09:19 AM

Have you seen the recent talk of Sabaton lately? They're a group from Sweden that sings about wars.

Taste_My_Scythe 07-21-2005 09:19 AM

No, I must've missed that. How far back is it?

Steerpike 07-21-2005 09:22 AM

A couple pages, I think. I can't really remember, it was only a few posts.

Stoic 07-21-2005 09:25 AM

GO LISTEN TO SABATON NOW!
and post feedback

Steerpike 07-21-2005 09:27 AM

In 48 hours, Wuthering Heights will be up in the new spotlight as well. Let's hope I can get my modem working by then so I can give you all the uploads.

.... Huh. Took the wireless longer to black out than usual that time.
