Thanks, man. We're busting our asses to do everything we can with this band. Playing as many shows as possible, doing whatever promotion we can do (such as this radio thing), and constantly... well, working.

That would be sweet if we could gain enough recognition to tour.

By the way, we put up a few videos from our show on Saturday. Filmed the whole show, but didn't put it up. Just the four newest ones: http://www.youtube.com/user/cathardick
Check them out if you want. A couple of them feature someone who will most likely become our singer. The video of Napoleon Solo shows how she can rip when she knows and is comfortable with what she's singing. Ehh, maybe not perfect. But still pretty good. She was terrified going up there (it was her first time), so she did quite well all things considered.
I think she needs to work on her mic positioning as I couldn't hear her at times. I think you need a bit of work on your right hand attack. Other than that, you guys are sounding phenomenal and I can't wait to see how the radio show goes. How'd you line that up?

EDIT: Dayton, Ohio? Don't you live in Canada?

Yar, Spiff lives in Toronto.

Sablate McNuff 04-20-2009 06:47 PM

....which is in Canada.

So you drove over 400 miles to play?

Spaceman Spiff 04-20-2009 06:56 PM

Yeah, she still needs work, but has tons of potential.

The Dayton, Ohio thing is a joke. That band Brainiac that I go on about endlessly was from there. There's this one live video in particular where they finish their set, and the singer goes, "Thank you. We're Brainiac. We're from Dayton, Ohio." But there's tons of noise left going from the song. They all put their instruments down and walk off, and after a minute or so the noise is all dying down and the one thing that's left on loop is, "We're from Dayton, Ohio."

Thanks for the compliments, Joe.

The radio thing is something this guy who's been helping us got us. He's not officially our manager or anything, but he keeps giving us shows and helping us out in any way he can. It's just an online radio station, but it's still cool. It's a site that's got some good recognition. http://www.thatradio.com

By the way, what exactly should I be working on with my right hand?

Sablate McNuff 04-20-2009 09:33 PM

I notice that your attack is quite inconsistent - some notes much louder than others and timing was a bit off. If you switch to a lighter pick, it might help with the consistency. Either that, or a compressor of some sort.

And yes, she has quite a bit of potential.

Got everything but vocals tracked on a new Hearth and Salamander song tonight. This one's pretty bitchin', and it'll be the last one for probably 3 months because my guitarist is going to Europe for 8 weeks.

Here to tell you all:

Chicken: sub-par meat.
I have told you all.

I hate when I get stuck while writing lyrics. I have no idea where I want to go with the second verse. :upset:

I know the feeling very well...

Best thing to do for ideas is the ol' brainstorm. Collect some of the key ideas from your first verse and do a brainstorm off them and see what little things you can come up with, even just the odd word or phrase.

Then sieve the best ideas from your brainstorm session into a blender and add fluff, pomp and circumstance.

Distill your mixture and separate into lines as you see fit. Do not be afraid of suddenly changing ingredients at any stage in the process. Now get cookin' bitch. :thumb:

That's my usual technique. I think they're coming along really well too and the relationship between the phrasing of the vocals and music is insanely cool. I might try to record a mockup tonight for ya.

In the meantime, los lyricos del verso!
There were
Stories told, so long ago,
Predictions of the end
And when it's time to pick your side,
Where will you stand?
Truth and Faith collide
Engulfing the innocent
This I will ask:

What
Do
You
Believe?
Go for it man, I'd like to hear how it would sound. Decent lyrics too, they kinda remind me of a ranting poem I once wrote actually.

I wonder if I still have it... Used to write stuff when I was about 16 then just got bored.

Would be cool actually hear your voice dude, I always wonder how people sound on here. Maybe we should get a thread going and get everyone to record them saying something or whatever, say where they are from and stuff.

BenJammin 04-21-2009 03:47 PM

E-mail sent, Jesse.

That might be kind of interesting, but I think we'd be shocked at how normal everybody sounded.

And I'm definitely going to do a quickie recording of the song on thursday night, so you'll have it by the weekend for sure.

Cool, I'm looking forward to hearing it. :)

I'm gonna make that thread to get everyone to record their voice. At least we can finally get a vaguely original collaborative thread. Should be a laugh too.

I'll go make some dumb voice recording and put it on my soundclick and make the thread. :p

You better join in too foo'.

BenJammin 04-21-2009 04:25 PM

You should go check out my new song too, Steve. >_>

Efrim 04-21-2009 04:27 PM

Ben, how would you feel if I added you to my MY5 list and just started calling you every few minutes?

Pleased?
Joyful?

I would not answer because I would get billed for long distance minutes at an atrocious rate. :p

Efrim 04-21-2009 04:42 PM

I'll just tie up your line then.

I wonder where I can find an auto-dialer.
