Crippled Black Phoenix
Group formed by members of Portishead, Electric Wizard and Mogwai. The debut album, A Love of Shared Disasters, is recorded at State of Art Studios in Bristol. Barrow Geoff (Portishead) , who is a part owner of the studio, produced the disc and will release it on his own Invada Records. The songs are by the the members themselves describe as "end time ballads", and "Born from a blizzard of horned cats, Crippled Black Phoenix bring you a twisted cinematic experience, handcrafted by a mercenary crew of underground heavyweights, giving depth and gravity to regal songs about love, loss, tragedies and redemption." Band members: Justin Greaves [Electric Wizard / Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine] Joe Volk (vocalist) [Gonga] Dominic Aitchison [Mogwai] Andy Semmens [Esoteric / Pantheist / Ereipia] Kostas Panagiotou [Pantheist / Ereipia] Nial McGaughey [3D House of Beef] Charlotte Nichols Team Brick Thomas Elgie Record is called A Love Of Shared Disasters, out April 2nd. I think it is fantastic. |
They've got some great songs. I haven't heard a whole album yet though.
|
Reminds me a little of where I imagined Neurosis going.
Not really heavy, but it has an indie slant. |
That sounds really good except for a few things.
|
Justin Greaves is on the band , it HAS to be good.
|
Ooh as if I've not seen this thread before ... blind as a bat.
I am really digging Ef - Give me Beauty ... or Give me Death! atm (yeah, shitty album name) ... Hello Scotland is just beautiful. |
Yeah that's an awesome album
|
I am in a bit of dismay over the fact that you like Crippled Black Phoenix Jared.

They have a handful of songs on their Myspace.
http://www.myspace.com/crippledblackphoenix I don't find them all that great. |
Crippled Black Phoenix is orgasm.
ok out from somewhere dont ask. "Aitchison isn’t all grins, however, when asked how he feels about the term post-rock. Mogwai has been lumped into this supposed genre of music by unimaginative music critics. “It’s kind of a stupid term, it doesn’t really make much sense. I don’t know, it seems really pretentious to me. A lot of the bands are described as being post rock. You get bands like Tortoise, we’re nothing like Tortoise, we’re completely different. So it’s a pretty vague term. It’s a pretty lazy term, lazy on the media’s front. They don’t really know what sort of music it is. If it’s not straight-ahead rock n’ roll, then it’s post rock. It’s a bit miserable, so we’ll call it post rock. It’s stupid." http://www.undertheradarmag.com/Issue%201/Interviews/Mogwai/mogwai.html |
Crippled Black Phoenix is Great!
the first song on there myspace is kinda annoying though with that guy talking in the background and you can barely hear the music but the 2nd song is phenominal! real good ****, cant wait till april 2nd Im really starting to get back into mogwai though, happy songs for happy people is a amazing cd. songs are easier to listen to becuase of the length. i ussually like long epic songs but this album is great. |
I got the Crippled album, it's really good!

Any Giardini Di Miró fans in here?
|
So, the only post rock album I own is This Will Destroy You's Young Mountain. I also have a lot of ISIS (love), but that's not really post rock according to what most seem to think. I really want to get into this genre, so where should I go from here?
|
You can start with Explosions in the Sky as an introductory course, although many here will tell you they blow (I like them). If you like them, you'll like Mono.
If you want to go a little more experimental, you can check out 65daysofstatic and see how they meld post-rock and electronica. Pelican, Red Sparowes, and Sigur Ros are all staples of the genre and each have their own unique touch. We Followed Tigers, despite the glitchy rips floating around, is one of the best post-rock groups out there. If you want to go into more folk-y territory, Halifax Pier is a good start. Jakob's "Solace" is an excellent album. They're like if you took Explosions in the Sky and made it darker and more interesting. Mouth of the Architect and Rosetta both offer more Isis-esque metal. Russian Circles is less post-rock and more instrumental rock, but still good (especially if you like Pelican). That's all I can think of to introduce you to post-rock. |
Why?
I don't know. They seem very 'in the box' as far as post rock which sort of goes against what I've seen you enjoy music-wise. Probably an incorrect assumption on my part or something, but either way, I don't really like CBP. |
Thank you very much for the help bwnstl.

Well, I mean they aren't my favorite thing ever. But I enjoy it, just because something isn't drastically different from the norm doesn't mean it isn't solid music. |
I got the Crippled album, it's really good!
