CunningLynguist's "A Piece Of Strange" would probably be my choice.
What's the best rap album of '06?

Nothing I have heard tops Fishscale.
Yeah, I probably have to go with Ghost right now, but Da Backwudz made a respectable bid, as did, much to my surprise, Mr. Lif. Check that record out; El-P produced it, resulting in the enormous jump in quality from his previous work. I'd say OutKast, but it's not the best rap album.

Jon 09-06-2006 10:16 AM

What do people think of Eminem?

He's my favourite rapper, but does he get bad vibes in the hiphop world for being too mainstream?

superpeer 09-06-2006 10:36 AM

Slim Shady LP is brilliant. \m/

Jon 09-06-2006 11:06 AM

Also, Plan B, so much awesomeness.

Yeah, I still need to listen to his album, I keep putting off. He's got a great voice when he actually sings aswell;

Legend is allrite not my sort of thing but its ok.

Anyone see Swat last night ?? He played Products at the mercury music prize event. The coverage is on tonight so I think that performance will be on. Anyway live I thought he was pretty good anyway.

ATM 09-06-2006 04:16 PM

The Coup are awesome, I just discovered.

dUSK 09-08-2006 09:51 AM

So I'm listening to the Souls Of Mischief that I got from the mailing list a little while back. Pretty cool stuff.

I also listened to the People Under The Stairs, but it didn't really do it for me. I'll try it again later though, as I just wasn't really getting into any of the beats, meaning I just probably wasn't in the mood for it.

Kyle 09-08-2006 10:10 AM

Which People Under the Stairs is it that was uploaded? I never checked.

dUSK 09-08-2006 10:12 AM

The Next Step

I'm now listening to random Nas songs.

NP: One Mic
The Next Step
Ah, I've not heard that yet. But the newewst PUTS album Stepfather, is excellent.

Sway - This is My Demo.

Anyone fans of the streets ?? From what I heard at Reading and Leeds was very good, any suggestions for an album to get me started ??

superpeer 09-08-2006 06:04 PM

I finally downloaded Enter the Wu-tang and Illmatic in their entirety. Enter the Wu-tang is awesome, not sure about Illmatic yet, though I'm liking some of the songs.

NP: 2Pac - Until the End of Time
Does anyone like John Legend? I'm listening to Get Lifted for the first time in ages and it still works, looking forward to the new album.
That single, Ordinary People was pretty awesome.

Haven't heard much else by him though.

Robert Crumb 09-08-2006 07:13 PM

Legend is alright by me. One of the better dudes doing what he's doing. Mostly, I'm glad dudes aren't pretending they're D'Angelo anymore. Or as much, I mean.

Also, Lupe's single is great. I think someone mentioned that a while ago. Don't think that one was on the early leaks. But his cover art is a clusterfuck if it's for real:

That's not something you slap on a record you want to sell.

Txus 09-08-2006 07:24 PM

I've been listening to Midnight Marauders and The Low End Theory. They're both amazing albums, I like Midnight Marauders a little bit more though.

NP: Dr. Dre - Murder Ink

Eliminator 09-08-2006 07:26 PM

That's the worst cover I've seen in awhile.

I like.

People's Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm has my favourite ATQ tracks.

Not seeing the big deal with Fishscale, but maybe I have to listen to it some more.

Tyler 09-08-2006 07:34 PM

That cover is reason enough for me to buy it. It rivals the Final Countdown cover for sheer, unnecessary awesomeness.

Robert Crumb 09-08-2006 07:36 PM

I was just reading the Village Voice article I stole the pic from. "...Like he's the latest herald of Galactus," made me nerd giggle.

Rams 09-08-2006 07:38 PM

There's this worst movie of all time out on video, ZoMbIeZ (complete with alternating caps), where the main dude looks like Lupe Fiasco. It got a 1.4/10 on IMDB. I hope he gives a shout out to it on his new album; got to be true to your roots.

Why name a CD Food & Liquor and lack both on the album cover? The title feeds on hunger and thirst and the cover plays on homosexuality.

Tyler 09-08-2006 07:48 PM

Is Lupe Fiasco worth looking into? And does anyone else dig Vakill? I think his one liners are f'in priceless.

"Sperm count so high girls gotta chew before they swallow"

Rams 09-08-2006 07:51 PM

Lupe's definately worth looking into. His music is smooth.

Robert Crumb 09-08-2006 07:52 PM
Why name a CD Food & Liquor and lack both on the album cover?
Because that's his basic MO. Whether or not it plays with mainstream rap audiences, I dunno. Mostly, his base is comprised of internet rap nerds (hand raised), folks feisty enough to get worked up over bad cover art but willing to stick their neck out for "content." So I'd imagine right now, he's in the same place he started.

Tyler 09-08-2006 07:55 PM

I'm listening to his stuff on MySpace, and yeah, it's pretty good. Can't wait to hear the whole album now. It also appears that cover is the real deal.

Rams 09-08-2006 07:56 PM

I see his videos alongside Pharell, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Young Dro, and the flavor of the month (which probably consists of all of them sans Busta). He'll ride the Kanye tip as long as need be.

Not enough people here like the more mainstream stuff. Some is horrible, but others are fun.

Eliminator 09-08-2006 08:08 PM

It's pretty fun to just sit and watch BET when I'm bored.

Other than singles I don't really listen to 'mainstream stuff'.

sgrevs 09-08-2006 08:14 PM

Can anyone suggest stuff similar sounding to The Mouse and the Mask?
I have heaps of MF Doom, but none if it is a smooth and chilled as his stuff with Dangermouse. Any ideas?
