Yes, they really hit their stride for a while in the '80s and early '90s. Most albums from that era are must own.

The only thing that mildly grates at me is how polished the albums from Point of Entry to Ram it Down sound. Tom Allom took away some of the grime that made the early Priest sound better imo.

Point of Entry in my opinion was Priest's most boring album. That one really did nothing for me.

Nothing is as bad as [I]Turbo[/I]. I think [I]Point of Entry[/I] had some good points.

Rocka Rolla woman for a Rocka Rolla man.

Rocka Rolla is great. Especially the title track. Anyway, I gave Defenders a first listen in ages about a week ago. It's a great album, but Love Bites is so Motley Crue.

Oh yeah, that Rocka Rolla reference came out of nowhere didn't it? oh well, not to worry.

Yeah, Turbo makes me cringe. I've always avoided Point of Entry and I hate British Steel with a passion.


Defenders of the Faith, Screaming for Vengeance and Painkiller are what I like to call the big 3 purely because they are 3 of the best Metal albums around. It's times like these I question how good Maiden really are when compared to Priest.

I like British Steel. Metal Gods, Rapid Fire, United, Grinder, Steeler and Breaking the Law are all great. I wouldn't put it in my top 3, but it's a fun listen.

Meh, I only like Breaking the Law, The Rage and Steeler the rest is really disposable.

Very true. Maiden has released some amazing albums, but only Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is able to touch the best stuff Priest has put out.

Stained Class
Painkiller

My feelings exactly, it's just whether you'd rather have consistantly brilliant or occasionally magnificent.

Like the shining highlights of [I]Ram It Down[/I].

I'd put [I]Screaming For Vengeance[/I] above [I]Painkiller[/I] in terms of best speed metal albums.

Screaming for Vengeance has Electric Eye, Bloodstone, You've Got Another Thing Comin' and the title track, but Painkiller has Leather Rebel and One Shot at Glory and eight other great songs besides.

Yeah, but [I]Painkiller[/I] can get really repetitive, I've noticed. Standout tracks like Leather Rebel and One Shot At Glory are great, but sometimes I tend to let the others blur together.

That's my problem with the album. I like it, but those songs are really weak compared with the others. Another case of the occasionally brillant, as SaxonPriest said.

Metal Gods is easily the best track off [I]British Steel[/I].

I prefer [I]Painkiller[/I] to [I]Screaming For Vengeance[/I]. I think [I]Painkiller[/I] is more consistent that SFV. I have never thought Pain And Pleasure and the last two tracks were as good as the rest of the album.

I think Defenders is beating out SFV now for me. Much more consistant, even if it does lack Electric Eye.

I think Defenders of the Faith is one of their best albums too. Jawbreaker, The Sentinel, Freewheel Burning. Three outstanding tracks. But when I'm in a bad mood, nothing beats listening to Rocka Rolla. It's really some progressive stuff there. I just love Ian's freely bass playing on the whole album. Run of the Mill is definately the best track on it, and it beats all the other slower "ballads" they have ever released later. The nearly three minutes long (!) solo is just outstanding, and sounds like nothing they have ever made later! And when Mr. Halford starts the singing / screaming in the end, I nearly start to cry :p

But other than Run of the Mill, other albums have much better songs, even though many of the songs on Rocka Rolla is very addictive (One for the Road, the title track, Cheater). The second part of Dying to Meet You is great, too.

I recommend this album if you want to hear a completely different and bluesy side of Priest.
