You got an F?! That bastard..... |
Yeah that really blows, I thought it was quite interesting and a great read...
|
I'm listening to "Animals" right now. :D Lucky me. I think my favorite song off of it would probably be Pigs(3 different ones.) The keyboard intro is my favorite part of the album.

Dogs is my favorite, the lyrics are great (linking to communism somehow), and the guitar solos are so creative, I love how Gilmour made the guitar more "alive" in Animals, not saying he sounds horrible on the other albums though. David Gilmour = One of my fav. guitarists :) |

There is alot of philosophical thought in that album. That is one thing they are famous for. |
Ouch, that has gotta bite. :( sorry about that man.
I haven't seen the Live In Berlin with Roger Waters DVD yet, probably cause I can't find it in any stores around here, I'll probably order for it online. Has anyone seen that David Gilmour Live DVD? I heard it has Shine On and some other PF classics. Wanted to know if it was any good...
David Gilmour Live DVD > All Roger Waters solo stuff. Seriously. That DVD is beyond awesome. |

Yes, do it. It is awesome. He also does some of syd's solo stuff on it. |
What ever happened to Syd? I'm a little in the dark about the guy.

He went crazy, He would be on stage and just stare off into space, so they got Gilmour to replace him. |

They got your brother to replace him!?!? Yeah, Gilmour was Syd's teacher too. Wasnt he? |
What ever happened to Syd? I'm a little in the dark about the guy.
I don't know exact specifics, but he went down the path of drugs, and got himself to the point where he went crazy and play the wrong songs on stage, or forgot to even show up to gigs and concerts... the rest the band was tired of putting up with it so they kicked him out of the band... after that.. I have no clue what happened... although I know he showed up at the studio during Pink Floyd's recording of Wish You Were Here (the album), which that album was actually about Syd, kinda freaky.... |

Yeah, Gilmour was Syd's teacher too. Wasnt he?
Was he? Which is strange, cause David has admitted to trying to copy Syd's style for their first few albums without Syd. |
Was the entire "Wish you Were Here" album for Syd, or just Shine on you Crazy Diamond?
|

WYWH the song, but multiple songs are about him. Brain Damage is another. |

I know the Shine On songs are to him, and the song Wish You Were Here itself was... im not sure about Welcome To The Machine a Have A Cigar though... |
I thought Brain Damage was about Insanity, but I'm sure Syd moved them to do that theme for the song... cause after all Syd did go insane cause of his LSD addictions.
|
First album -most of the songwriting was all done by Syd, the rest of the band heavily relied on him. After Syd showed to be unreliable for live shows(Playing wrong songs, just standing there staring into the air, etc) they had their friend David Gilmour(OMG!) play live, while they kept Syd to do the songwriting. But eventually he wasnt even able to do that so they totally kicked him out(a whole bunch of managers left with him). The next few albums consisted of the band trying to emulate Syd's sound(While Syd starting to release some solo stuff which is quite good BTW). Eventually Roger emerges as a songwriter, and they start to develop their own sound.
During the recording for Wish you Were Here, Syd suddenly showed up. He was fat, and going bald, the band didnt even recognize him.(Irony eh?)
Pink Floyd: The Illustrated Discography: "During the Wish You Were Here sessions a fat, shaven-headed person wearing grey Terylene trousers, a nylon shirt and string vest wandered into the studio. The band ignored the visitor and kept on playing and it was the visiting Andrew King who finally recognised their guest: 'Good God, it's Syd! How did you get like that?' To which Syd replied, 'I've got a very large fridge at home and I've been eating a lot of pork chops.' The whole event was slightly un-nerving since the theme of the album was based on Syd and his subsequent madness."
Nowadays, he pretty much keeps to himself. |

Im pretty sure he was. /wants "Inside Out" very badly |
Ha, too many pork chops. That could be song.

Talk about a downer. A band you helped to form was gaining success, and as soon as they kicked you out, they became huge.

Yeah, Pink Floyd would've cease to exist if they never did anything about Syd though, or at least their shows would... so I'm glad they did something about it. Besides, I think Roger Waters (and Gilmour sometimes) is just a good of songwriter, if not, better. |
Heh, porkchops. Poor Guy.
I don't think Brain Damage was about Syd, it was just about insanity in general I think. |

So then, does that mean that the whole Dark Side of the Moon album is about Syd's life? His evolution from birth to insanity, or is DSotM just about life in general? I'm out  |
