Luxor 10-08-2004 11:14 PM

Been listening to a lot of Buckley. My guitar teacher lent me a tab booklet, so I've been learning a bunch of his songs lately.

Nah, I just got tired of the name.

Aimee Mann is pretty nifty. I've only heard the Magnolia soundtrack, but yeah, good stuff. Save Me is such a great song.

Bloody Lovelies

Check these guys out - they so rock! I saw them in Vegas earlier this week and it was a fantastic set. They are on tour now, so go to http://www.bloodylovelies.com and see if they are going to be where you are. I would really so not miss this! Their new CD Some Truth and a Little Money is a must-have. You can get the CD there too. Go check them out - you'll be so glad you did.

I've been listening to alot of third eye blind as of late. really talented guys.

The Ashtray Girl 10-10-2004 10:35 AM

I'm getting into a lot of very soulful, very sad stuff at the moment. I'm such a cheery person.

Happymeal 10-10-2004 01:36 PM

Just bought Straylight Run's cd awhile ago. It's actually quite decent.

Dark Hero 10-10-2004 01:43 PM

Aphex Twin
Sigur Ros

asymm 10-10-2004 04:44 PM

I'm listening to happy '80s music...
like...
The Cure
Joy Division
Galaxie 500

...yeah.

el doctor 10-10-2004 04:50 PM

I just bought:
The Flaming Lips - Zaireeka
Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye
Dream Theater - Live at Budokan [DVD]

br3ad_man 10-10-2004 10:09 PM

Tell me what you think of Zaireeka. It's so bloody expensive over here that the only way I'd consider it is if it was one of the best albums ever recorded. Ever.

Tomahawk 10-10-2004 10:13 PM

I downloaded Zaireeka, but I could NOT get it to start all 4 discs at exactly the same time, even with help. So I gave up.

I've never heard them, but for some reason I have in my mind that they're similar to SDRE. If they are, I'll definately be checking them out.

Happymeal 10-11-2004 06:11 AM

Actually, it's John Nolan from TBS and her sister, along with ex-Breaking Pangeaa. Maybe you were thinking of The Fire Theft?..

Luxor 10-11-2004 09:24 AM

Hmmm, no, not the band members. I mean their sound.

Tomahawk 10-11-2004 09:31 AM

I'm digging Death Cab. I think I'll buy one of their CDs tomorrow.
Tell me what you think of Zaireeka. It's so bloody expensive over here that the only way I'd consider it is if it was one of the best albums ever recorded. Ever.
It cost me about $20, maybe a few dollars more. I can't really say that I'm ready to give a definite opinion on it yet, as I haven't gotten through all of it. (the Dream Theater DVD has kept me occupied ;)) I will say that people who get this album expecting to hear something like Yoshimi are in for a big surprise. It still sounds like the Flaming Lips, but it's really out there. I haven't been able to do much experimenting with the discs yet. I do have all the CDs ripped to my computer, and I experimented with mixing tracks together. It's pretty cool, but it honestly takes the fun out of it by doing it on the computer. Maybe I'll try and upload some tracks or portions of songs so you can see how the 4 discs work with each other.

I'm really pretty busy lately, so I don't know how much time I'll have to experiment with this. If I give it a thorough listen soon, then maybe I'll do a review, but I'm already behind in the other 3 or 4 reviews I want to do. :o

Oh yeah, and I'm hesitant to experiment with track 6, "How Will We Know- (Futuristic Crashendos)". It experiments with some crazy frequencies and the CD (and online reviews) give warnings that it should not be played in the presence of pregnant women or infants, and it may cause naseau or disorientation.

I must hear this

For the most part, it's post-emo. More emphasis on alt than pop-punk though, I really dig the piano parts.

Do you have gmail? I could probably fit all 4 single versions of the song, along with a full mix of them, in one message.

Maybe I'll download some songs by these guys.

Happymeal 10-11-2004 07:50 PM

Try "A Slow Descent"(it's not on the album) and "Existentialism On Prom Night".

Tapeworm 10-12-2004 06:30 AM

Ummm, I've been Elliott Smithing completely lately. I finally bought 'Elliott Smith' and 'Roman Candle'. I also got the newer Mint Chicks EP, which is very very good.

pixiesfanyo 10-12-2004 09:16 AM
