These C.R. thread n00bs are a dime a dozen, they say one thing and never come back.

By the way, where the hell are Frailed, B0nzo, and Voddoo?
It's too big or something.

On another note does anybody like Kenny Wayne Shepard. I love his bluesy style and guitar playing. One of the best players that is still fairly new :thumb:. Also an awesome band.
^Ahem! Geez I never knew that Kenny Wayne Shepard was so hated :upset:

Badmoon 05-31-2004 09:21 PM

^ I like him, saw him open for Ted Nugent and ZZtop. It was sweet, because he played really early. So, I was able to run up to the front of the stage, because few people had arrived yet. Did "Voddoo Child" great :thumb:

Revival

Rock has gotten some semblence of a revival in amongst my group of friends (which I suppose is fairly large). That's pretty much all we listen to because we realized our parents were right when they said their music was a lot better than the pop/punk crap we were listening to in junior high.

Metallica3130 05-31-2004 11:47 PM

ALL of my friends enjoy at least some classic rock. I think its gonna make a comeback and I hope it does. We are in desparat need of some better guitar playing in modern songs.

^Sweet it's got Crosby

Crosby should run each record industry.

B0nz0 06-01-2004 01:10 PM

the record industry is the biggest reason why today's music is utter crap.

**** the record companies...

Badmoon 06-01-2004 01:17 PM

David Crosby said it all. The industry is to predictable, and the record industry is ran by people are actually aren't really interested in music. The music industry needs to be ran by music lovers, and album collectors.

Badmoon 06-01-2004 01:28 PM

Kids, if you want a good true band. LISTEN TO CROSBY!!!!!!! I wish he would manage my band, but first I would have to get a band.

lol if ur good at an instrument i'd be in ur band. at least i wouldn't be playing crap music. and if we're managed by david crosby, well even better.

i liked crosby stills nash and young a lot. also liked crosby stills and nash. so i know nash is from the byrds and young and stills were from buffalo springfield, but where did crosby get his start?

BludgeonySteve 06-01-2004 05:02 PM

Yes but they are also the reasons that many of the older bands were enjoyed by millions of people. The record companys of today are cunts. But then again nobody important actually cares about the mainstream.

You have it mixed up.

David Crosby - The Byrds
Graham Nash - The Hollies
Stephen Stills - Buffalo Springfield
Neil Young - Buffalo Springfield

ooo my bad. i don't know anything by the hollies. and i only know one song each by the byrds and buffalo springfield (eight miles high and for what it's worth respectively) but i'd love to hear more.

RockAndRoll 06-01-2004 07:40 PM

That PBS thing is cool

Oh ya...

1. your thoughts on the movie almost famous? Personally i loved it, i have 2 versions, bootleeg cut and original theatrical version and i can't stand watching the shorter one (which is still quite long) (and i think ironically is the bootleg cut) because you just don't get the same sense of everything.

2. Your thoughts on Elton john. I say he's got some good stuff, not my favourite artist but not bad either.

Almost Famous = One of my favorite movies. It is actually a true story, no matter what everyone says. William is Cameron Crowe, and that first scene with Lester Bangs I can prove is true. Read Lester Bangs's biography.
Your thoughts on Elton john. I say he's got some good stuff, not my favourite artist but not bad either.
As a person, I think he's an idiot, but most of his music I like.

I'm absolutely sure you have heard more, but you may not know. Like...

Buffalo Springfield - Mr. Soul
Buffalo Springfield - Bluebird
Buffalo Springfield - Broken Arrow
Buffalo Springfield - Sit Down, I think I love You

(Keep in mind The Byrds do a lot of Dylan covers)

The Byrds - Turn, Turn, Turn
The Byrds - Mr. Bojangles
The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man
The Byrds - The Times are Changin'

^I believe those are some songs by B.S and T.B that you would know (Not necessarily by name, but overall each song will probably sound familar.

StreetlightRock 06-01-2004 09:46 PM

Yea, Corsey really does say it all, its actually very sad.

Almost famous is a great movie! I dono, it just really rocked, the encapsulated the entire music industry back then, and just had this 'rock n' roll' feel about, which i loved.

And Elton Johns music is great, i reckon hes an amazing songwriter and some of his music is magical. lol, but as badmoon said, hes a bit strange. I dont like how he played with Blue on that song though... The piano in it was good, but still. heh, i saw a pair of his one of his first glasses (the big flashy ones) down at the Hard Rock hotel in Bali, it was pretty cool.

DVG.

^I'm sorry I had to cut one album off, but it wouldn't fit.

VoodooChild 06-02-2004 11:59 AM

Soooo, I went out and bought a Gov't Mule album finaly after downloading about 20 songs from Bearshare. I had spare money and plus, it's not fun waiting an hour for a 10 minute song. I got Deepest End (with the spare DVD even though I'm poor and do not posses a DVD player. I have to go to my friend's house...) and I have been enjoying that CD to the max! Warren Haynes is a madman. This CD has some of the best jamming I've heard in a while. They are heavily blues influenced and that makes them near perfect. Since Allen Woody passed away in 2000 in this concert they use about a dozen different bassists from Claypool to Flea. They did some cool covers like "Voodoo Child" which made me spooge and more others... There are 20 songs on the 2 CD's and about 20 more on the DVD. I highly recomend people of this C.R. thread buying this album and all of the other Gov't Mule albums. Well, I'm gonna go back to working on this school thing. I'll see you guys later. Peace...

BludgeonySteve 06-02-2004 03:50 PM

Who do you guys think does the best guitar fills in Classic rock? I'd say it's Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits or Eric Clapton.

Or I guess it can be any kind of fills. I really liked Mitch Mitchell's drum fills when he was in Jimi Hendrix Exp he plays with so much power. It totally made the whole thing better, it wasn't just Jimi going all of the work.

Badmoon 06-02-2004 04:28 PM

^Well, come on!! The award with no doubt goes to Keith Moon. No one can do fills like him.
Who do you guys think does the best guitar fills in Classic rock? I'd say it's Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits or Eric Clapton.
Duane Allman :thumb:

BludgeonySteve 06-02-2004 05:05 PM

Yeah he's better at fills. I just like Mitchell more. Keith Moon's easily in my top 5.

brolnsht14 06-02-2004 07:32 PM

I think that a good enough classic rock band or any kind of band for that matter, if their music is good enough, it speaks to everyone and in my opinion, that is why the beatles, stones, zeppelin, etc. are still huge today.

BludgeonySteve 06-02-2004 08:01 PM

No band speaks to everyone. What about the stupid death metal people?

White 06-02-2004 08:13 PM

At my highschool, I am seeing a huge revival in classic rock. Ive always been a fan of classic rock but I've recently seen some people who have been die hard heavy metal type of people give more folk and blues based rock a shot in recent years. I am all for it. The more people who I can share my taste in music with, the better.

My personal favorite classic rock bands/artists are

Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
AC/DC
Boston
Queen
Bob Dylan
Van Halen
Jimi Hendrix
Guns N Roses
The Who
Peter Frampton

But unlike some other classic rock fans I am willing, and in fact, I am trying new music everday.

Recently, I've gotten into more modern bands such as Incubus, Muse, the Darkness, the White Stripes and Audioslave.

vipsquad2 06-03-2004 11:45 AM

I have many favorite Classic rock bands here are a few :thumb:

Led Zeppelin

The Beatles

Queen
The Eagles

BludgeonySteve 06-03-2004 03:23 PM

That reminds me. I want to learn more about The Eagles. Download suggestions please (please don't say Hotel California, i've heard it enough...).
