I wish I could take credit for it, Jason; moreover, my third eye spilled onto pixels

Riva 05-06-2008 01:15 AM

Aww. I'm sure if you use some sugar soap it'll mop that right up.

Kage 05-06-2008 01:16 AM

Why would I do that when it looks so cool

!

Riva 05-06-2008 01:17 AM

Nobel's third eye is leaking onto the dynamite.

Hey Peter,

good luck for you - in vienna its raining ^^
But at least, I "created" (?) a theory today: the legitimisation of warlords in a failed states, within the problem of the social contract within hobbes and Machiavelli :)
Well, i don't you think you will know what i mean, but its just an idea i have ^^

I fixed the grammar, but I'm really not sure what you mean, so I can't go any further.

I guess what you're saying is that, in a really crappy country, warlords are the ones who will rise to power because they can (supposedly) provide for the safety of their people the best.

Which is a good thing

thanks;

It wasn't my intention to tell you exactly what theory I conceived today. Its just an idea I have in mind.
You have the concept of a "social contract" by Thomas Hobbes, but the dilemma is, that the "social contract" never had been "made" - Hobbes says, that it just "exist".
Thats the main reason, why a lot of scientist don't like Hobbes.
But now, in a world of failed states and warlords, I think that Hobbes should be re-thought again. If there is a failed state and there is an Intervention of f.e. the USA, they make a "new state" and through this they "make" a "social contract".

The dilemma, that a "social contract" never had been made in the past, now disappears and becomes reality. well, the dilemma disappears and the "social contract" becomes reality.
And this is my "theory".
Beside of that, you can think it further (which i have done) and you will realize that there a lot of other aspects you have to think of... but this would be too much and too exact.

Hey there Kacper,
I'm not really big on the political/legislative stuff from the period you're talking about, but it souds interesting.
Yesterday I had a great discussion about politics (mostly dutch politics) with a friend of mine.

So how are you doing?
btw: I'm home again, I had a good talk with someone from my uni.
Next week I'll go toa three day lecture in Germany about youth and drug addiction.
:D

So you are saying that a state that intervenes in a conflict should feel obligated to form a social contract?

the2stranger 05-06-2008 07:44 AM
So you are saying that a state that intervenes in a conflict should feel obligated to form a social contract?
my 2 cents:

A country shouldn't feel obliged.
But if they intervene with a country they willingly or unwillingly take on this social contract, just because of their presence.
