Yeah, absolutely every dm band has to reinvent the wheel, otherwise they'd be generic and I'd hate them.
I understand your point, assuming your sarcasm, but I like when people do something different. Even Yellowcard.

masscows 04-07-2008 08:46 AM

Orchestras in metal isn't really anything new though :/

I want to hear this album though

That's true, but this is really well done.
Its necessary if you don't wanna be just another generic death metal band.
Are you serious? Adding an orchestra in a death metal project is cliche, unnecessary and cheesy.

Septic Flesh do a really good job with it. I'm not defending everybody that does it, just them. Disregard my prior statements, lol.

Sear Bliss have horns but I don't think they have a saxophone.
Its necessary if you don't wanna be just another generic death metal band.
A good band needn't rely on gimmicks to stand out.

ninjamonkey 04-07-2008 01:19 PM

It's not a gimmick if it isn't meant as such.

Maybe you aren't trying to get attention, but truly like to compose your death metal with an orchestra.

Spirit Crusher has two of the most brutally awesome riffs ever, opinions?
youre an idiot
What? I was being sarcastic. The point I was making is basically the same as Solitary's: "A good band needn't rely on gimmicks to stand out."

Doing something "different" can occasionally work well, but Dimmu Burger is the idiot for saying that it's necessary.

RetiredAt21 04-08-2008 07:36 AM
Sear Bliss?
LOL, I think that might be it. I'm gonna have to listen to them.

Landphil actually gave my mates (who run a Uni radio show) the Cannabis Corpse album for free when we saw Municipal Waste. He was pretty out of it though.
hey guys lets talk about the originals: Death

For some reason, the one riff in Nothing Is Everything makes me want to jive like a crack-crazed nigga who's found some free rocks.

Which riff?

...and my Death collection is 7 strong!

VomitStainedCretin 04-08-2008 11:24 AM
Which riff?
It's sort of a 'bridge' riff without vocals over it; it's played twice in the song and isn't a 'heavy' riff.

Hey I recanted that statement!

I would prefer a band that didn't need a gimmick and could write great songs, but that doesn't mean a band that does something different has to be frowned upon.

this, its much better when a band has thier own sound and is good because of the music they write not becuase of what they look like or what status-quo they have

Nostalgia 04-08-2008 10:35 PM

They have one good song, which is off their first album. It's the first track on it... if I remember correctly it starts with the word splatters.

Tyler 04-08-2008 10:36 PM

Their music isn't very good?

Aakon_Keetreh 04-08-2008 10:36 PM

First song is called blunted at birth, there new stuff is a lot better, i like the lyrics though.

Tyler 04-08-2008 10:38 PM

Scattered Remains, Splattered Brains? Not the first track but it's on their demo and first full length

Nostalgia 04-08-2008 10:39 PM

Yeah that's it. Catchy song if I remember correctly.

FatalEnergy 04-08-2008 11:56 PM

First time listening to Pestilence's Spheres.

I'm can't decide if I like it or not. I love jazz influenced DM. Atheist is my favorite DM band, but I don't know about the Pestilence album. It's almost like they try too hard to be technical. Hopefully it'll grow on me.

I'll just stick with Consuming Impulse until then.
