Money is a tough one man - I kinda feel like the band I'm playing with is doing really good things and going places, but I barely see any cash from it. All of the cash that our band earns goes back into touring, promotion, etc. etc. So it's definitely a hard road man.

My gear is pretty much the same as it has been for a while now. My gigging rig is generally:

Fender Frankenjazz / Warwick Corvette FNA Jazzman Fiver / Fender Frankenjazz Fretless --> Planet Waves Tuner --> SWR Workingmans 4004 Head --> SWR Workingmans 410 Cab.

I sold off a heap of the pedals that I used to have, I've still got a few lying around but they never get used nowadays.

What about yourself dude?

gaslight 06-23-2010 09:06 AM

Nice, I'm thinking of off-loading a lot of pedals I have 'cause I never use them live, but maybe I'll use them as toys for some bedroom music-making later on.

I've got my trusty Ibanez SR500 as my main bass, an Ibanez SRX500 that I keep for playing in a band that always tunes down to C, and I recently bought an Ibanez SR706 just in case.

My gigging rig is an Aguilar AG500 into an Epifani UL212.

Rollo47 06-23-2010 09:10 AM

Nice man, I'm not a huge Ibanez fan, but those are good basses, and that is a sick rig you've got happening there!

If all goes to plan, I'll be upgrading my cabs to a couple of Bergantino 1x12s in the future at some point. Definitely looking forward to that, my SWR quad is the heaviest bloody quad box I've ever had to carry.

gaslight 06-23-2010 09:16 AM

I love the SR500 just by dint of spending so much time with it, I can't see myself getting one to outright replace it as my four string.

I do want a fretless though, and I'd love an acoustic bass too. One day I'd love to branch out into upright territory but I know I don't have the time to devote to it.

Pretty tempted to throw one of the new Aguilar TLC compressors in my rig if I have a few bob left over after tax time.

And a new gig bag! I haven't been able to shut up about wanting some new gig bags for about a year now hey.

You doing anything fun for a day job at the moment, uni or whatever?

Rollo47 06-23-2010 09:23 AM

Yeah, I love playing fretless, but I certainly don't do it as much as I should, especially considering the amount of money I put into that bass, hahah. It really is my pride and joy though. Here's the specs:

Fender CIJ 62 RI Body
Custom Warmoth neck (wenge with ebony fingerboard)
Nordstrand Pickups
J Retro Preamp

Managed to scam myself a new hardcase for it out of the band money recently, so that was pretty cool.

In regards to work/uni etc, I'm working a little at a liquor store, but honestly wouldn't have enough time to do much more, this band takes up the majority of my time with rehearsals, gigs, promotion and the like. Definitely not a bad way to spend my time though :)

gaslight 06-23-2010 09:28 AM

Sounds like a snazzy bass there for real.

Where have you been living anyway? I don't really remember what state you're from sorry, haha.

Liquor store sounds pretty cool man, I've been doing 'service assistant' stuff at a supermarket 'cause teaching isn't quite enough of an income.

Rollo47 06-23-2010 09:34 AM

I'm born and bred in Perth man, still living over here for the moment, though there is talk of the band relocating over east at some point.

Honestly dude, working at a liquor store is terrible. Well, the liquor store I'm currently working at is terrible, anyway. It's located in an area which has a reputation for being pretty dodgy, so we get a lot of trouble there. Dealing with drunken morons, trying to stop people from stealing things, and all the while thinking that I'm about to get stabbed or held up is not my favourite way to spend time, hahah. I've just started teaching again though, so hopefully I'll see a bit more cash coming in from that soon. And of course, hopefully the band stuff picks up a bit more and I'll start seeing a bit more cash from that, too, because I'm struggling terribly with my finances at the moment, hahah.

gaslight 06-23-2010 09:36 AM

Yeah I'm not doing too crash hot for money either, not going broke but not seeing the cash pile up like I'd like (ie; literally and unstoppably).

Thinking of getting like a decent four bedroom around here with some of my saner and more reliable mates to hole up and save the currency for a bit.

I've heard Perth has a pretty lively music scene, Sydney is pretty lame, everything is either metal up the arse or indie ginger-beer garbage. I'm starting a piano trio later this year to have some real fun with, I predict zero attendance at gigs! Haha.

Rollo47 06-23-2010 09:44 AM

Yeah, I'm just glad I've got very very very supportive parents who for one reason or another can see the merit in what I'm doing musically. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a complete bludger (I worked full time for three years or so after I finished school, and was completely financially independent during this time), but some health issues made me re-examine the lifestlye I was living at the time, and focus more on my music. All in all though, despite being dead broke all of the time, it's been one of the better decisions I've made in my life so far :)

Perth's music scene is pretty good man, can't say I've really been to the East Coast enough to be able to compare, but there are some really good bands coming out of Perth nowadays. The only problem we have is a lack of really good music venues, but I guess that's pretty much how it goes with the whole smaller population thing.

Anyways man, I might watch a movie and head to bed, still feeling the pain slightly after getting back from touring :p Good chatting to ya mate.

gaslight 06-23-2010 09:51 AM

That's sweet as man, if I could live rent-free somewhere I'd jump at the chance! Really makes me feel like a slack-arse all the time I spent not working when I was younger, but I'm going to use the rest of my life to make up for it.

Downside being I think I'm getting a bung wrist from all the repetitive motions at work :(.

You take it easy mate and I'll see you back on here next time we've both got nothing better to do. :chug:

FunkMetalBass 06-23-2010 10:54 AM

I installed the EMG 81/60 in my Les Paul last night. I haven't finished all of the wiring for it yet, but that will come on Friday when I get more time.

I've also decided to replace the bridge saddles with some graphite saddles and add a hipshot extender. Furthermore, I'm going to replace the knobs with knobs that go to 11. :) I'm just torn between black knobs and gold knobs. It currently has black knobs, but all of the hardware is gold. Maybe I should do gold tone knobs and black volume knobs?

gaslight 06-23-2010 10:57 AM

Knobs are such a hard choice hey.

I wanted to do up my SR500 with ruthenium hardware from Schaller, but it has like, big pots for the volume and pick-up blend, and smaller pots for the 3-band, and Schaller only make one size. Do you ever feel like tiny little things that like just ruin things for you?

On the topic of Black & Gold, did you have that annoying song over in America?

Tiny things like that do ruin it, but I'm not too worried. I've come to like smaller knobs for EQ controls, and they aren't too hard to find. Have you tried ETS? They offer a wide variety of colors and sell mini-knobs. They are also the same knobs Ritter uses, so I'm slightly biased. :)

Black & Gold? Never heard of it.

gaslight 06-23-2010 11:06 AM

I'd be sorry to do this to you if I had a sense of guilt, but just for amusement this is what we had to put up with for a few weeks of TV a year or two ago. It's not as horrible as I make out of course.

FunkMetalBass 06-23-2010 11:14 AM

I like his vocal range - it's nice to a hear a lower voice in mainstream music (Tantric FTW).

Otherwise, **** that was terrible. Are you sure that was popular here in America?

gaslight 06-23-2010 11:16 AM

His vocal tone isn't bad it's just, you know, everything else.

I don't think it made it to America.

Wish I could say Soulja Boy didn't make it out of America but I am aware, I am aware. /Costanza.

FunkMetalBass 06-23-2010 11:46 AM

My girlfriend wishes the same. I "superman'd dat ho" once, and she was rather upset about the cleanup involved. It was priceless. :)

gaslight 06-23-2010 07:55 PM

So what, you punched her into the sun?

Sablate McNuff 06-23-2010 08:29 PM

Superman dat ho:
1. Grab a ho
2. **** her doggystyle
3. Ejaculate on her back
4. Throw a towel on it.
5. Towel sticks and looks like a cape.
6. "OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH"

gaslight 06-23-2010 08:56 PM

Wow, that's retarded.

But what should I have expected :p.

We Americans do love our sex-positions, especially when they involve objectifying and degrading women...

Wow. This forum moves slow nowadays.

Soo... can anyone here use photoshop to create me a vector image of some text? D:

Why can't you do it?

FunkMetalBass 06-24-2010 04:49 PM

By the way, Inkscape is much nicer for vector art.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/

fatbandit 06-24-2010 04:50 PM

Because I don't have photoshop, and I don't fancy learning how to use it after downloading something I'll never use again.

fatbandit 06-24-2010 06:40 PM

sweet, our album's available for pre-order now. it's getting more exciting :)

Spaceman Spiff 06-25-2010 12:50 PM

The new Capital H album is getting so close to being done. It's looking like August that we'll have it printed. I'm so psyched for it.

FunkMetalBass 06-25-2010 02:27 PM

Nice.

I just ordered some Circle K strings for my 8-string. I'm really excited to try them out.

I still really want to do a Tele build.
