And the other half they reject reviews because "There's no way that album is as good as your score indicates." Fags

the2stranger 02-27-2010 01:48 PM

Holy ****. Good thing I was checking for gigs
Loads of cool gigs coming up, the two pearls on my gig agenda for the coming months:
Nadja and Esoteric.

Aah, nothing like blasting some Evoken late at night.
 holy smoke!
yeah they always play Murder after the encore :O

Stormrider 02-27-2010 09:19 PM
I thought the mods there was snobs. Half of the time reviews like that don't make it through the filter.
I've seen it at least handful of times, I think. The two that I remember clearly were both funeral Doom too haha

Just cuz that happened to you once doesn't mean it happens to everyone all the time :p

FatalEnergy 02-27-2010 09:31 PM

I don't get how they add bands with no demos all the time.

And then bands that actually have demos get denied.

Doesn't make sense.
Swallow The Sun is quite good.
I might be seeing them in April. Should be chill.

Sure it does.
Band called Swallow the Sun is supporting Katatonia next month. Worth checking out?
I must say Katatonia are one of the worst live bands I've seen. Mind you this was at least 7 years ago so they may have got better. But they seemed completely awkward on stage - singer was doing a stupid dance and generally acting like a tool.

if half of them dont make it through then a shitload must be submitted because the number of sub-par reviews on that site is overwhelming

Det_Nosnip 03-01-2010 08:39 PM

So I've been listening to a lot of My Dying Bride lately (well...always ;) ) and I'm finding the sort of funeral ish sides of them appealing, particularly some of the stuff on "Songs of Darkness, Words of Light." Can anyone recommend me some good funeral doom bands?

rasputin 03-01-2010 08:41 PM

worship - both albums

Stormrider 03-01-2010 08:46 PM

Skepticism - Stormcrowfleet

Tyler 03-01-2010 09:35 PM

Nope. Unless you're really into synthy womanly melodramatic sap

Bleekill 03-02-2010 12:31 AM

Yeah I mean isn't their new album called "New Moon" hahahahahahah. Keep synth the **** out of doom.

Skepticism - Farmakon
Skepticism - Alloy
Shape Of Despair - Agels Of Distress
Fallen - A Tragedy's Bitter End
Forest Of Shadows - Departure (the drums can be a bit annoying, but othr then that, it's awesome)

Both Skepticism albums feature quite a lot of church organ, which gives of the funeral vibe. The other albums are superb too though.

Their first album is pretty good though.
The second is pretty cool as well, after that album that I read so many bad reviews on the newer ****, I never even bothered checking them out.
I still spin the first album every once in a while though.

Nepenthe 03-02-2010 01:18 PM

thergothon's stream from the heavens is the best funeral doom album there is

RetiredAt21 03-02-2010 01:19 PM

Yeah that album is really good.

the2stranger 03-02-2010 01:22 PM

Ace album indeed.
Classic in the genre. Although it doesn't pe say have a 'funeral' vibe.
Still 100 per cent funeral doom though.

I hope this makes sense.

Shattered_Future 03-03-2010 02:21 PM

Browsing my email today, I got shocked by the fact that Harvey Milk is playing on Monday in NYC. Promptly bought tickets and now that I'm listening to them again I can't wait to be crushed by doom.

ATM 03-03-2010 03:04 PM

I recorded some HM vids and put them on youtube:

Dance of December Souls?

I really like that album.

Nepenthe 03-03-2010 03:50 PM

dance of december souls is prob my favorite metal album of all time

i think he was talking about swallow the sun though

Txus 03-03-2010 03:53 PM

dance of december souls is probably the only katatonia album i would be able to listen to now.

the2stranger 03-03-2010 03:57 PM
Dance of December Souls?

Like Anthony said, I was indeed talking about Swallow The Sun.
Old Katatonia is also sweet though, even though I think I enjoy Brave Murder Day the most form their doom/death work.

Some October Tide every once in a while can tickle my fancy as well.

Nepenthe 03-03-2010 04:01 PM

12 days of rain is an excellent song learned to play it the other week

Jondur 03-04-2010 10:34 AM

So The Obsessed may be reforming. This is good news. Church Within line up I think.

ATM 03-04-2010 12:03 PM

\m/

That's great news!

FatalEnergy 03-06-2010 01:10 AM

It is the year of Wino.

Saw St. Vitus in Jan, and seeing Shrinebuilder tomorrow.

the pen is mightier 03-09-2010 01:12 PM
