Jeez, no one has looked at my Metalhead thread, I guess i really am the only person that likes that music
I think it's just that no one wants to be seen declaring said liking publicly :)

14 views though, so it's not being totally ignored.

BludgeonySteve 01-15-2005 12:10 AM

Wow, Ramsey's back.

That = :eek:

Rasta Rocker 01-15-2005 12:11 AM

BludgeonySteve 01-15-2005 12:12 AM

Eventually.

We will leave it at that.

I was only joking really. I just don't have too much of a liking for it myself, though that's not an absolute thing.

^Dream~Theater^ 01-15-2005 12:13 AM

No need to care what others think of your musical tastes.

Why is everyone so surprised? Didn't he post here a couple of days ago?

I think so, he has also been on Halo 2 for the past few days.

Isn't metal about not conforming.....well aren't i the most nonconformist by being the only one to like that genre

^Dream~Theater^ 01-15-2005 12:21 AM

You think your the only person who's into hair metal dude? Just because people dont feel like posting dosent mean they dont like the gendre. And if you live off little stereotypes like "isnt metal about not conforming" then i pity you.

Rasta Rocker 01-15-2005 12:22 AM

oh yeah i know its not all about that

Bartender 01-15-2005 12:28 AM

Yeah. You were thinking of punk, right?

Rasta Rocker 01-15-2005 12:30 AM

No, according to that philosophy of metal thing, if i read correctly, a part of metal is being different

^Dream~Theater^ 01-15-2005 12:35 AM

Poser talk.

Bartender 01-15-2005 01:01 AM

I haven't read that philosophy of heavy metal thing, but bear in mind that what this one guy thinks is the philosophy of heavy metal, isn't necessarily the philosophy of heavy metal :)

Bartender 01-15-2005 01:08 AM

Some guy has 32 albums with Freebird on :-/

Metal is whatever you choose to make it, the lyrics make the philosophy sure, but the instruments make metal metal.

munky_magik 01-15-2005 07:26 AM

Not necessarily the instuments but the style of music the instruments create.

and the guitar forum is geneally boring I find, until they start talking about Petrucci and Eggo comes along and says "Man, Petrucci sucks. You should listen to *insert random Jazz artist here*" and then Puzzle comes along and goes " yea he's good but yo ushould also listen to *insert random classical artist here* and then a a particualrly innovative noob comes along and tells them that Hammett is now the in thing and that everything they listen to sucks.

RockerGav 01-15-2005 07:28 AM

Hey Munky how did you enjoy the gig last night man?

munky_magik 01-15-2005 07:31 AM

Despite VR's lack of good material, I thoguht they put on an amazing show. The sound wasn't the best but they put on a really good performance and got the crowed pumped.
I knew they were gonna do STP and It's so easy, but the surprise inclusion Of used to love her and Mr Brownstone was good, but also pissed me off. I had a really good time though :)

I thought the datsuns were utter shite, I have never seen sucha bunch of toley's take the stage.

What'd you think of it?

I agree with the part about VR putting on a great show despite the lack of good material, I think the inclusion of STP and Guns n Roses songs brought the quality of the whole show up, although VR do have some good tracks.

Highlight of the whole show for me was Mr Brownstone by far, it's one of my favourite GnR songs and seeing it live was top class.

Scott's megaphone through microphone crap got annoying about halfway through the first song, and he talked a load of bollocks in between songs. Having said that, my opinion on how talented each of the members are has risen a lot after last night.

Personally I thought the Datsuns were pretty cool, not my usual type of music but it was cool for a bit of dumb fun really, I would maybe go see them again depending on the price.

I forgot about the megaphone, he brought it out about a quater of the way through their set and never put it away, and he's way to skinny for his own good.
I thought the GNR covers were the best part of the night as well, but I was kinda pissed off at them as well because they're relying on the legacy of their old band's to please the fans.
And the Datsuns I thought were just way to generic Rock n roll for their own good.
Thier song formula = start of with clichéd rock riff, rest of the band joins in. Continue untill listeners are bored then spice up with a breakdown and go into solo bass and drums. Continue untill listeners looked bored and then kick back into clichéd riffage accompanied by solo in the minor pentatonic with wah. Continue until listeners look bored then end song. Repeat.

RockerGav 01-15-2005 07:51 AM

I think he did put it away by the time they were back for their encores didn't he?

But yeah, he's way too skinny, and I think he tries to imitate Axl Rose a bit too much with his dancing and whatnot. I thought they had good stage presence all round as a band, most notably Duff and Slash.

To some extent I agree about the legacy issue, but then again; I'm not a big VR fan, I went so that I could see 3 GnR members play, as I may not get another chance, and frankly I would have been very disappointed to not see them do any GnR songs.

I agree that the Datsuns are very generic, but I don't really care, its the sort of generic(ness? genericicity?) that I can live with, because IMO right now few bands pull off 70s guitar rock quite so well.
