Man, Deliverance is awesome.
Wreath is just so brutal!!
Deliverance is kicking my asz as we speak.
The riffage is spectacular and I actually really like the production they ended up with, despite their woes in the studio.

Mwah.

EDIT: Hahahaha, Demon Of The Fall is number 666 on my Winamp playlist when all of my songs are on there.

Do All The Opeth albums have Growled Vocals?
Do All The Opeth albums have Growled Vocals?
Damnation has none, though all their other albums have clean singing mixed in with the growls.

Toaster 03-13-2006 01:41 PM
I never understood that either. I don't like Atonement, so I never listen to the song, consequently I didn't even know the Reverie section existed. It wasn't until I looked at a GP tab of the entire song several days ago that I heard the intro and said, "woah, what is this first part? Is the file mislabeled?" Then I backed up into the end of Atonement and heard it. I'm glad they did it that way though, I don't like Reverie. It sounds very disturbing and doesn't fit the wonderful mood of Harlequin Forest.
Reverie is part of Harlequin Forest. It's in the negative numbers that come before it- when you put the album into a CD player it says track 5, but it's about a minute and a half in negative numbers. Since mp3 files don't have those negative numbers, you can't see it unless you use a CD player. Incidentally, Reverie is right in the middle of the album, between tracks 4 and 5, which I think is pretty cool.

Aakon_Keetreh 03-13-2006 04:01 PM

I just got my parents into Opeth

Whale and Wasp 03-13-2006 04:12 PM

Probably not. I think it's not bad song but it just doesn't do it for me like other soft Opeth songs...it doesn't have that same eerie dark vibe as Harvest or TBYF.

Darkness 03-13-2006 06:29 PM

I think it's darker then Harvest. Thats a really positive song for me... I liked Atonement more the first time I heard the album, but now it kinda wore off on me (like the rest of the album..).

Kaiwaz 03-13-2006 06:51 PM

I never could get into Atonement, the song lacks something...

Shattered_Future 03-13-2006 07:23 PM

I'm not sure whether it was Atonement or Hours Of Wealth that I liked, but I know it was one of them...very proggy/atmospheric song.

Kaiwaz 03-13-2006 07:28 PM

You might be thinking of Hours Of Wealth, I could be wrong though.

Darkness 03-13-2006 07:54 PM

Yeah, I don't think Atonement is very proggy... Hours Of Wealth is better.

Shadows 03-13-2006 08:02 PM

Atonement is the only song on the album I don't like.

Shattered_Future 03-13-2006 08:04 PM

Blimey Ben, you've turned into quite the Opeth fanboy lately...

What I don't understand is why everybody loves GOP so much. Granted, it's a good song, but it's not one of the best on the album IMO...

Darkness 03-13-2006 08:06 PM

I think it's one of the best. It simply seems to have the best structure, and has good riffing, as well as that amazing clean peice 3 minutes into it...

It is. :p

It pretty much sums up a lot of Opeth's style.

I know! It's cray!

I don't think it's that good. I like it but not near as much as others on the album.

I absolutely love that part !

I would listen to it, but my freind still has the cd I made with all the Opeth on it..

It was my attempt at trying to get him into them :p

Note: my friend is the drummer in our band. Which is only me and him so far :p

King B 03-13-2006 08:55 PM

Does anyone know who the touring drummer for opeth is? And what is the status on Lopez?

Mendez, and he's insane live, it's like he plays with no emotion. and I have no idea on Lopez

Deth 03-13-2006 09:00 PM

No, the replacement is Martin Axenrot of Witchery (I think) and Bloodbath. He's a good fill in.

Mendez is the bassist.

It just seems to have something the rest of the album lacks, I dunno. It's a great track, though still not on the top of my Opeth list by any stretch.

One thing I have to say about GR, the lyrics sure took a dive from the quality of the previous albums. Perhaps it's because Mike was writing about things less personal to him, although MAYH and SL were both like that too...but who knows. All I know is the lyrics just don't have the same feel of dark, gothic poetry as the other stuff, and some of them are downright bad (see: Harlequin Forest)

=-fukifiknow-= 03-13-2006 11:02 PM

the other day me and a buddy went into one of our local music stores, i was going to buy "morningrise" i have had all the songs for a long time, but out of respect to the band i figured i had to buy the album.
anyway as i picked it up some guy goes dude OPETH IS AMAZING, **** yes i replied, then across the room some guy goes ORCHID BABY. five opeth fans in one place coincidently?
i felt like i was in a movie (none of them worked at the store)

Darkness 03-13-2006 11:09 PM

^That's cool... I've never seen more then 3 real Opeth fans together (including me), save the concerts I've been to.

gmoneyguy 03-13-2006 11:50 PM

Opeth is increasing in popularity. There is a few people down here (Mississippi of all places) I know of that likes Opeth without me or my brother getting them into Opeth.

MrJack 03-14-2006 12:22 AM

I'll listen to GOP before any other song just because it does a good job of setting the tone for anything else. Its the one song that I wish didn't have any slow parts. It would have been nice to keep that pace the whole time. Sadly, that and Beneath the mire are the only GR songs im listning to constantly. Oh and BOTH.

I agree, although I can't justify that on a large scale.

I ran into a guy in JBHiFi's in Perth the other week, and he had a Ghost Reveries shirt on so I talked to him a bit about the upcoming performance in April.
Turns out he's seen them about a dozen times, he's traveled the world and followed them around, basically.
Lucky guy! *envy*
Plus, I'm getting all my mates to come to that concert too, they don't really listen to Opeth all that much, if at all, but I'm sure they'll change their views and become fans.

Power to the 'Pethians.
