So much more badass. I approve.
I'm a nerd I've read up on Warhammer mythos. It still looks lame =(.

I wish I had the attention span to pain models for hours on end so I could play a high tech version of D&D-meets-Counterstrike.
I don't like that idea, really. It's got some ups, but it's got a lot of downs.

Unrelated, but MMO-ish/RPG-ish:
I like Blizzard, SOE, and Black Isle/Obsidian's ways of interperating fantasy and sci-fi into games.

Iluvatar 11-07-2007 12:03 AM

Covering quite a number of bases with those three companies really.

edit: regular Dreadnaught is still lame imo =(. Guess there are reasons to me not being a fan!

Charizard 11-07-2007 12:05 AM

I mean SOE for Everquest and Vanguard, and Black Isle/Obsidian for all of the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games, and Blizzard for being Blizzard.

I have said it before, but Blizzard is really good at ripping off other games, at least when it comes to Starcraft.

Starcraft is a blatant rip off from 40k it is not even funny.

Charizard 11-07-2007 12:08 AM

Starcraft came out in 1996...
Starcraft came out in 1996...
Um... Matt...

BoboTheRagingHobo 11-07-2007 12:10 AM
Starcraft came out in 1996...
40k has been around since 1986-87

Iluvatar 11-07-2007 12:11 AM

Warhammer has been going on since the 80s.

Calling Starcraft a ripoff is going too far though.

Charizard 11-07-2007 12:11 AM

Starcraft came out in 1996 B.C.

Also Starcraft has the whole Zerg based plotline.

Which was pretty much all taken from the Tyranids from 40k as well with the Space Marines.

Iluvatar 11-07-2007 12:13 AM

That is the part warhammer fanboys say SC ripped off kind of the Space Marines + Zerg ****.

Thing is Warhammer kinda ripped off D&D combat mechanics in the sense it took all the COMMON SENSE crap (come on, as if tyranids are incredibly original) as much as Starcraft ripped off some of Warhammers mythos soooo that is to say its kinda dumb to say essentially!

edit: wait was the warhammer tabletop out before dnd 1 ed? totally not remembering

edit 2: my post is retarded

Riva 11-07-2007 12:14 AM
Starcraft came out in 1996...
 That made me laugh.

And I can agree with StarCraft being a big Warhammer 40K rip-off, but when you get down to it, Warhammer Fantasy is just a big D&D/Tolkien rip-off.

D&D came out in the early 70's and Warhammer fantasy came out in 1983, so no.

But taking game mechanics from a pioneering force in table top gaming is different from ripping off blatant fantasy based ideas.

Iluvatar 11-07-2007 12:20 AM

I think I think the tyranid/zerg comparison is there, but I mean in reality that idea isn't something either company can coin for themselves, and the differences are there in the way both evolve.

And space marines are just every boys dream in the first place. Once again, both systems handle the two quite differently. Warhammer is waaaaaay more in depth obviously.

AA-12 11-07-2007 12:20 AM

We are really nerdy guys.

Charizard 11-07-2007 12:20 AM

A decade is well long enough to be influencial....

Riva 11-07-2007 12:20 AM

GOD I AM SO FULL OF NERDRAGE RIGHT NOW

But seriously, Warhammer taking elves being tall, intelligent, long-lived creatures from Tolkien is the same as StarCraft taking mindless, ravenous vaguely insectoid aliens from WH40K.

As it turned out, both rip-offs were top quality, so I suppose we, as the general public, can forgive the ripper-offerers for their sins.

AA-12 11-07-2007 12:20 AM

Charizard 11-07-2007 12:22 AM

Haha, exactly.

Riva 11-07-2007 12:22 AM

Mate, three of the people discussing this are in their 20s. :p

And actually Space Marines were "ripped off" from Starship Troopers.

Alot of things are ripped off, used or tweaked to be used in a different way, I just have a personal vendetta against Blizzard.

Iluvatar 11-07-2007 12:24 AM

Sorry, I was implying thats where everything was fostered.

I'm 18 I dont fit into my own categorization!

oh wait im a dork anyways

edit @ post above: trutru Blizzard is a maniacal company!

big80smullet 11-07-2007 12:25 AM

They all rip of L. Ron Hubbard anyway.

Calm down, big boy. :p

This stems from the whole WoW debacle, right?

EDIT: L. Ron Hubbard was the greatest Science Fiction writer of our time! Just ask Tom Cruise.

their thetans cannot repel nerdom of this magnitude!

still the best robot chicken skit ever

I don't hate Blizzard beyond the fact that I played Diablo 2 for 3 and a half years mixed in with Starcraft and Warcraft then, then proceeded to waste a year of my life on an addiction known as World of Warcraft!

Nope, never!

Riva 11-07-2007 12:29 AM

Hehe.

And the best Robot Chicken sketch is, without a doubt, Voltron getting Totally Served in breakdancing.

BoboTheRagingHobo 11-07-2007 12:31 AM

It is hard to pick and choose the best Robot Chicken skit, most of them are pretty damn good.

Anywho, sleep time for me...

Iluvatar 11-07-2007 12:31 AM

Golden Girls was better then that one.

Check please!

Tyler 11-07-2007 12:43 AM

Anyone up for another quick grammar/syntax question?

Should I put
Weeds, a popular Showtime “dramedy”, has taken Mellencamp’s message and embodied it in their opening credits to the extent that the suburban torpor is nearly palatable
or
Weeds, a popular Showtime “dramedy”, has taken Mellencamp’s message and embodied it in their opening credits to the extent that the torpor of the Suburbs is nearly palatable.
Charizard 11-07-2007 12:44 AM

Second.

Tyler 11-07-2007 12:45 AM

Anyone else?

Kage 11-07-2007 12:51 AM

First one.

_______ of _________ comes off as clunkier than just using an adjective, unless you're using it for some kind of effect.

Charizard 11-07-2007 12:53 AM

I liked it because it was less standard. :(

Too high to discuss grammarz. :/

Kage 11-07-2007 12:54 AM

It's not a poem or a creative writing piece, though.
