I really loathe slayer....maiden are tolerable, metallica are sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
I also dislike slayer, I find them pretty boring. Metallica (=most overrated group ever) do nothing to me besides the first 3 which are quite decent but nothing special. I like maiden "hits" from their first 7 albums and the whole 7th Son of a 7th Son but nothing more...

NP Coroner - RIP

Endless Obsession 06-26-2005 04:30 PM

Has anyone in here ever heard of Kool Keith, Dr.Octagon, or Dr.Dooom? He is my favorite rapper. I love his lyrics and his beats are awesome too.

heavy metal kid 06-26-2005 04:32 PM

nope, the only rap i used to heard was public enemy and the "heavy" cypress hill songs.

I suppose just all the mainstream stuff, It's not so much the music that bothers me it's the people that go with it and the culture that surrounds rap, the whole thug culture sickens me...

Six Foot Revolver 06-26-2005 04:47 PM
I suppose just all the mainstream stuff, It's not so much the music that bothers me it's the people that go with it and the culture that surrounds rap, the whole thug culture sickens me...
It more surrounds the dance and R 'n' B culture though

Lord Abortion 06-26-2005 04:49 PM
It more surrounds the dance and R 'n' B culture though
an I hate that culture just as much, the dance, rap and r+b culture is all one to me, perhaps that is the wrong opinion to have, but most of the fans of this music I have met seem to be horrible people

RiceMonster 06-26-2005 04:53 PM

Most of the people who are too into the culture yes.

I don't like the culture you speak of either, becuase I don't like the idea that a lot of people think if you're black you have to walk around with your pants low and use ebonics. And like I said before, people who are too into the culture seems to be assholes often. I actually had one of the dumbasses say "You're white, cut your hair" to me.
No- I hate rap, sorry

last time I said that I almost got killed
Nah, it's alright. So long as you guys gave it a legitimate shot, no one can fault you there for having an opinion.

However, if someone didn't give an artist or genre a legitimate listen, wouldn't you act the same way if someone like this blasted your favorite artist/genre? Most likely, right?

It just works for all genres. In the end, it's all good, so long as you give things a legit shot before judging.

Anyway, here's the final thread for RMOTM and NRMOTM, if anyone cares.

Seems like a lot of people elected to vote this month, which is a definite plus in my eyes.

Lord Abortion 06-26-2005 05:10 PM

I have tried, I have listened to early PE and Ice-T stuff and don't mind it, same goes for snoop dogg and dr dre- the culture though, especially the chav and wigger culture here in england that I have to live with at school and out and about daily that makes me hate it so much,
I have no positives for dance music though- there is no excuse for that.

jpj 06-26-2005 05:16 PM

On the topic of rap, something I just found out today, Coolio completely stole (I guess he didn't steal it since he probably permission) Pastime Paradise from Stevie Wonder and just changed the lyrics to make Gangsta's Paradise. He didn't just sample it, the music is exactly the same. He also got a grammy for it, wtf?

...and he has the nuts to get all pissy with Wierd Al for Amish Paradise.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-26-2005 05:17 PM

Can someone YSI a few Public Enemy songs? I always hear how much RATM ripped them off..

EDIT: The music video for Amish Paradise was filmed around where I used to live.

Lord Abortion 06-26-2005 05:24 PM

anyone who doesn't like cannibal corpse, (and people who love them) look at my post in YSI thread and download the tracks, give them a listen and read the lyrics. plus the explanations I wrote for each song and tell me what you think.

I shall check that out.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-26-2005 05:30 PM

Thanks Med. :thumb:

Since I mentioned RATM, I realized that I am pretty glad that they went their seperate ways...I think that by the time Renegades rolled around, they were running out of ideas in terms of new music and topics. You can only go so long with writing about the same political subjects, and even though Morello keeps shelling out new effects, his playing in Audioslave has become quite monotonous, IMO. Hes basically used up every combination of single note riffs on the bottom quarter of the fretboard. :p

It's not that surprising. Stevie Wonder's something like the second most sampled artist ever (after James Brown, I think). For another example, listen to Stevie's song I Wish and compare it to Will Smith - Wild Wild West.

How the hell is Slayer white elitist?

Tom Araya - How white does that sound to you?

RiceMonster 06-26-2005 05:47 PM

Don't Slayer have a song called guilty of being white?

Lord Abortion 06-26-2005 05:48 PM
How the hell is Slayer white elitist?

exactly!!

he's bloody of cuban extraction
that's like saying anthrax are Nazis...

Read the lyrics. The first 2 lines:
Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The way I want you to die
 Could just be me, but eh...I sense a little hatred here. :-/ Maybe I'm just looking too far/not far enough in to thier lyrics. Either way, Hanneman owns that song.

EDIT: Tom Henry Araya- 2 white names, one last non-white last name

That's just about some scientist back in the War, and they just sing about it. They're just interested in Nazi Germany and all that stuff, they don't support it.

Endless Obsession 06-26-2005 05:55 PM

People dont understand that Slayer isnt serious about their lyrics. They just say all of the antichrist stuff and all the hatred things. Sure they dont believe in God, but they arent Nazis or Satanists. They are normal people who just write about that kind of stuff.

And Tom was born in South America idiots.

I forgot about that. That song's on the same album as Pastime Paradise (Songs in the Key of Life). But I think sampling a part of the song is different from having the exact same melody throughout the entire song.

Most bands with Satanic lyircs aren't serious about it.

"Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood"

"Rancid Angel of Death
Flying free"
I see no support there

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-26-2005 05:57 PM

They did a cover of Guilty of Being White, yes.

Thanks for the clarification. :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-26-2005 06:07 PM

I fell for that. :(

hehe. Okay, I suppose you guys are right. I need to admit that I know nothing about metal.

I was basing my opinion on first glance, and I guess that usually isn't the best thing to do. :)

I suppose. It's still sampling though, in the end.

It's an excellent album, too.
