Tbqh, LA isn't really anything special. I mean it's good music, but a lot of the songs don't flow very well and some of it sounds rather disjointed.

Good band, just not worthy of worshipping IMO.

Yeah LA isn't special, except for the [I]insane[/I] drumming and the great riffs. Oh and they are an interesting change of lyrical style too for death metal.

One thing we apparently agree upon then. "Symphonic" and "Brutal" do not belong in the same description. If they are, it's probably not that good.

It's not really both of them together. Either of those adjectives on their own would put me off of a band. Both of them together tells me I definitely need to stay away though.

A lot of it is an acquired taste, and I'm not just talking about Avant-Garde Metal, but Avant-Garde anything.

Arcturus has actually grown on me a lot, and Ephel Duath has it's cool moments too for an avant garde band.

I really do like Arcturus.

Other stuff like Mr. Bungle is cool.

Ephel Duath's The Painter's Palette album is great. The one after that is lolsuck.

People need to keep wierd **** out of death metal. No avante garde, no ambient, no "jazz" crap, none of that ****. Symphonic is fine (when done well), but nothing else. It just gays up the genre.

That's only if they are horrible at writing. Atheist is an amazing band and used jazz parts just fine. Sleep Terror and s[I]hi[/I]t like that is just dumb.

tbh I only heard the first 3 tracks, which is why I said I'm going to be listening to it a lot. I'm far from placing a judgement on it atm, but I do think it was a bit overhyped on MA. Every single review title is basically "BEST DEATH METAL ALBUM EVER! - 99%"
