This is what set me off:
There are many good posters in the Pit, there are many bad posters. The ones who have the stars are typically the more intelligent of the bunch.
Yeah, I made a correction in my original post. Sorry again. I realized what set you off and apologized. |
Generally If you make consistently good posts anywhere you'll gain respect.
Whereas if you post like a moron things are jsut gonna go bad for you. |
Maybe, but I typically see Zakath get on the case of posters who just of poor caliber. Reasonably intelligent people do just fine there.
Eh', when I used to look in there alot when Subtle, Tiger and Zakath were the big flamers, it seemed to me some of the people they tore apart just had different opinions then them and got flamed for no reason. And also it seemed like they went into almost every thread flaming people for the shear hell of it. Maybe it has changed, but that also kinda of put me off from posting in there seeing those things. |
You traitor to the cause
Hey man, i'm not a traitor. I didn't change sides or anything. I still believe strongly in the cause. |
Yeah, I made a correction in my original post. Sorry again. I realized what set you off and apologized.
Yep, it's all good. Thanks. :) Rep for being a good man about it |

Meh, nobody listens to Tiger anyway. Everyone knows he's an egotist :-p |
Meh, nobody listens to Tiger anyway. Everyone knows he's an egotist :-p
I guess you can say that heh. Eh' just seemed like they were a bit to aggressive towards people, like I said, maybe it has changed, I really don't know about it heh. |
Seriously, if you were just an intelligent poster with more than 2 braincells, you'd get respect there.
It might also help if you were a girl, but its not required.
Ill assume you werent referring to me as a a poster with 2 braincells, but like my last post that got deleted (error message) said, im going to post in the pit regularly for the next week, ending saturday night. If i lose rep points, the difference will be the amount of days i will never consider visiting it again, and if a gain rep points, then ill continue to post regularly for that amount of days until it goes down again. Id like to see what happens Edit: and sorry for the late post, i had to shovel the snow outside again |
Welcome to the R & M community thread Rob. :)

Agreed, that's the biggest thing that turns me off about the Pit. The Pit totally destroyed CreepingBlack, for instance, who when he showed up in R+M was reasonably ok. He had a problem with flying off the handle and an inability to take insults/criticisms in stride, which I gather is what irked so many Pit-goers, but nevertheless he was constantly flamed and constantly reviled for "stupid threads" and he couldn't take it. I really don't think he deserved it. That's the kind of thing I hate to see: when someone is innocently trying to be reasonable or at least apologize for being a dick previously, and then gets the mick taken out of him by every single thread-hopper that sees it. And I especially hate it when people call other people "Faggots." That's just me though. EDIT: I admit I do not know the whole story about CreepingBlack. If anyone felt like they wanted to explain it, that would be fine: I just saw him when he commited his little e-suicide and decided to look into it a little bit...the limited stuff that I found sort of led me that above conclusion, in addition to my own personal experience. |
I judge people on hw they post before I judge them on their postcount and joindate. Those don't really mean much to me.

I was saying that, in general, if a poster has more than 2 brain cells they can do well there. And I know how it goes with that shoveling. |

He had his moments of good posting, but in general, when he started threads he came off as antagonizing and scornful in ways that upset people. He'd make threads that were borderline insulting in some ways, but that was more toward the end of his posting, so maybe he just had enough of the criticism. I guess taking criticism is one of the big things you need to be able to do for the Pit. I used to get flamed to hell and back because I was a bit antagonizing myself. Eventually people lay off of you once they see you can contribute something worthwhile. Many times people who get criticized never go that extra step to prove they are worth something and they can't take the crits so they leave. |
Humor99 is one of the more intelligent contributers to the Pit. Other notable mentions are Maveryck, Subtle Dagger etc.
I on the other hand contribute nothing :upset: |

I on the other hand contribute nothing :upset:
It's a rare day that I see Mav post anymore, I think he sticks mostly to the other subforums. Thanks btw, and don't worry, your Captions thread is a success. EDIT: This is quite weird - my postcount and rep are exactly the same (11,005). Thanks to munkymagik :P |
w00t
I try hard to make original threads, the problem is, they are usually borderline spam. But its a rare day where i'll make two of the same thread. |
I judge people based on join date, then post count (if join date is insufficient). I've got a whole set of rules about it, it's getting quite lengthy.
Thanks for the rep Bartender. :thumb: |
Maveryck has been seen quite a bit in Politics lately. He's a really smart guy.
I think he pretty much posts only in Politics. Bar one post in a soon-to-be-closed Pit thread, I haven't seen him post elsewhere for ages. |
Maveryck has been seen quite a bit in Politics lately. He's a really smart guy.
So I hear. I'm not much for debating politics like that, but if he can do it, all the more power to him |
Thanks for the rep Bartender. :thumb:
You're welcome. Sorry for not realising I'd not yet repped you sooner. |
Maveryck has been seen quite a bit in Politics lately. He's a really smart guy.
I stopped voting in Politics since the bush/kerry election ended, but from the people ive seen, they do know whats going on. Id post more regularly, but i really dont have any strong opinions on anything anymore |
You're welcome. Sorry for not realising I'd not yet repped you sooner.
No problem. :) |
Bartendrer repped me once for making a typo and he found it funny :).
I <3 him. |
You're welcome. Sorry for not realising I'd not yet repped you sooner.
Hope my rep helped you, it probably didn't do much, but I figured you were definitely due for some. |
I think most of my rep from Bartender has come from Wildhearts/SG5 appreciation. :)

I feel like such a little guy compared to all you with your stars and post count,
Im due to cry myself to sleep over this tonight  Quite a bit of repping goes on in the Classic Rock thread too, but im aware that the most is in the Guitar Stronghold, but ive never visited it yet. I look at the guitar forum everyday, but never post. Funny how Guitar forum seems to have tons of threads each with about 7 post, and the D&P has barely any threads but with about 25 post each. |
No problem. :)
Bartender's never repped me.... But that's ok. I don't mind. |
Most guitar questions are asked over and over, or are as simple as how to form a certain chord. I believe drumming there's a lot more discussion about different styles of playing, how to set up things, and more general things that specific things like chords.
|
yea, a great percentage of threads in the Guitar forum are about song/equipment recommendations. The D&P forum looks good, but I barely ever venture into it.
|
Humor, the other thing you have to realize is that for many people, especially n00bs, it is easy to look in the pit and believe that most of them are morons and don't do anything for the site because they don't know better and they are uninformed. For instance, I know I used to think most of the pit posters weren't great contributors, but I have since gathered that some are, so just realize that if you are only posting in the pit and spamming, it is easy to make a misjudgement. :)

They're often discusing equipment that I've never heard of, I don't mean for example a distrotion pedal, but more the specific brands and models. |
I usually go into the Bass Forum if I'm not in here.

I have no doubt that a lot of the Pit posters, including myself, can be complete morons. And I don't really feel like arguing the rest of the point. :) |

I wish there were more things on theory. It seems like nobody ever cares to know the intricacies. I've studied it quite a bit and love it. On the other hand, I'm too lazy to write an actual lesson about it, so maybe the problem is with me. |

I think so far the worst thing about the Pit is the recent ignore list thing. No offense to you of course Humor, and although most of the people deserved to be added, it just got to the point where if someone made one bad post then BAM, they're ignored forever.
Mostly however, I think the pit is pretty damn funny, save the occasional boring periods. |

People can pop into the pit, and take one look, and see a user like me who has 15000 posts say "lol ur funi" or some spam like that, and automatically assume that we are all morons. or they can on the same token, pop in and see Humor99 make a sand****** thread (it would be the fourth thread I believe) and think the same thing, when in fact, the regular posters, we are just all friends and we just post playful spam sometimes.

Ugh. The only post in that thread I made was that EVERY gimmick poster should be banned/ignored forever. Seriously, does anyone find them funny? |
