i bought the only thing they had there, the dude said it would work on both a CD player and a DVD player. it says DTS surround music on it, but thats like speaking spanish to me.
Is it a two-sided CD?

The salesman most likely had no idea what he was talking about...
You've probably bought the DVD version of deadwing.. (if you have a dvd player with 5.1 surround it'll sound absolutely amazing though)

Trintar_VIII 08-13-2005 06:27 PM

Yeah that would be awesome to hear it in 5.1. That is, if they make it for surround and the instruments fade in and out of different speakers, not stereo sound in a 5.1 system.

Kage 08-13-2005 06:29 PM

Stereo in 5.1 is still pretty damn sweet, but when a CD is mixed in 5.1, it's amazing. I'd love to hear Deadwing in 5.1, but I don't have that version.

denboy 08-13-2005 06:31 PM

It's mixed in 5.1

I have In Absentia on Dvd-a.. I lack a Dvd-a player though, so I just play the dvd mix, and it sounds amazing.. I can't imagine how the Dvd-A tracks sound

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-13-2005 06:34 PM

I'd just return it and get the normal version of it.

I've just been informed that the Lateralus vinyl thingie was put up for sale at toolarmy.com, and toolband.com for 3 hours at some point? Saw a post by someone who got it on another forum..

YouGottaBeCrazy 08-13-2005 08:34 PM

I would assume that the 4th day recording picture is not very recent. They seem kind of busy, so Adam probably wouldn't have a lot of time to update the myspace account. You know what I'm saying?

BlindWriting 08-13-2005 09:11 PM

I love that behind the scenes photo from the Parabola video on Adam's myspace. Some good stuff there.

Mr Herb 08-13-2005 11:25 PM
Herb, can I get the Patient and Ticks and Leeches vids?

BlindWriting 08-13-2005 11:26 PM

!!!
Recently, I’ve been giving you information about the limited edition LATERALUS vinyl (and I’ll have more news about it in a few days), but let’s not forget that that the members of the band are currently in the process of recording a new CD. So, I’m thinking that this would probably be a good subject for the August newsletter (even the little bit of info I’m able to reveal at this time). “EVEN THE BURGERS ARE SECRET” will be the title of this newsletter and I hope to be able to include some photos of the boys doing their thing in the studio. Anyway, that’s the plan… and what’s coming.
About friggin' time!!!

And here's hoping it's not a tease.

Mr Herb 08-13-2005 11:28 PM

Dam that sounds great. I bet itll be a while before he writes the dam newsletter

heavy metal kid 08-13-2005 11:28 PM

Did you guys ever check http://www.maynardjameskeenan.com It's not done yet, but it's gonna be amusing when it's up. MJK with his own website. Its gonna be classic.

PeEpHoLe_10 08-14-2005 06:12 AM

My god, four posts in two years, that is a long time between drinks.

Shadius 08-14-2005 06:25 AM

I just skimmed over the last few pages. A few of you were wondering what could get a crowd so riled up when Parabola starts? Well, I have a ton of Tool video's, I'm getting this from the entire New York concert I have, Lateralus tour.

When Parabola starts, there's a slightly longer gap than usual. The stage goes completely dark, then these red lights flood the stage and two of those giant flying ball things from the Parabola video fly up out of the stage and just hang there meters above the band on either side of the stage, and stay there, floating for the entire concert.

Pretty fucking awesome.

Speaking of their live show, Tool can be SO much better live than on the recordings, and thats saying something. H. is absolutely amazing live when they drag out the "I don't mind!" part, totally intense. And Stinkfist when they postphone the last chorus and have danny do a little intro style drum fill is so sweet. The Grudge is amazing too. Man, all of their stuff kicks so much ass live.

On the New York show... they play this song with lyrics like "Do your best, do what you can!" I searched the lyrics and didn't come up with what song they covered. It sounds pretty poppy/catchy a few powerchords style riff type thing. Maynard says the song is dedicated to.. Joey Addidi? Joey and Didi? I can't remember now, it's upstairs on my old computer, but it was bugging me where the song actually came from.
it says DTS surround music on it, but thats like speaking spanish to me.
DTS discs are used to give high quality surround sound. They are most often used in Cinema's, to give the full surround sound effect. Without them, the movie will only play using the Center, Left and Right channels, and at a reduced quality. As far as I know, a DTS will not play in a standard CD player. It will possibly play in a DVD player, as long as the player has DTS capabilities (talk about stating the obvious  ). I would suggest you return the CD.

Dried Muffin Remnants 08-14-2005 09:00 AM

Shadius, the only song that is MUCH better live is Triad. You could also make a case for Stinkfist, because they make it longer and more stylish.

Don't you Americans have something that you can complain to?.... Like some department to ensure that stores don't fool you into buying things?... .. If all else fails, sue them for eleventy billion dollars

You don't need to put the email in. Just load the file, and click upload.

How do you think that the people who upload get that window?

I used to have an FYE here, but I never had any problem. One time I returned a CD to Best Buy a year after I bought it and they had no problem with it. :-/

that seems great ! :D

Kage 08-14-2005 11:48 AM

That's a fan website, isn't it? I don't understand what's so funny.

That thing's been "incomplete" for a couple years now.

No that's actually his website, I'm pretty sure. And yah, he hasn't really updated it, except maybe 1 time.

Kage 08-14-2005 11:57 AM

Oh, I always figured it was a fansite. I just remember being excited about it about 2 years ago, it seems like, and now it still hasn't opened. Pretty much lost its novelty, I think. :-/

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-14-2005 12:37 PM

I've never had any specific problem with FYE, other than the fact that every thing they sell is about 25% overpriced compared to the next expensive store, so I stopped going there after I bought Rage Against the Machine's S/T for 18 bucks. :-/

Kage 08-14-2005 12:42 PM

Yeah, they're incredibly over-priced. The best CD store around me is CD Werehouse, which is pretty decent. Mainly I use another source, though ;)

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-14-2005 12:50 PM

:upset: I wish that source worked better for me, but until then, I have Best Buy. I've been having great luck there lately. Other than the fact that they have a sparse Porcupine Tree collection, their cd selection is solid, and I haven't bought a cd from there for more than 15 bucks.

Kage 08-14-2005 12:52 PM

The main times I buy from Best Buy is when a new release comes out, because they often have them for $10 the first week they come out. :thumb:

Oh, and the source I was talking about wasn't slks. :)

EDIT: Jesus, I hate it when MX suddenly messes up.

Otherside 08-14-2005 12:58 PM

Kage, do you have Radiohead's unplugged album? I just got it off Zmev and it's wonderful.

Kage 08-14-2005 12:59 PM

I sure don't. What is it called? I've got their live one, I Might Be Wrong, which is awesome.
