Alison Brie is from Community (one of the better comedies on TV right now, in case you guys don't have access to it in Europe or Australia).
She's not MEW because we've used up all the good .gifs that I've found of her. It's time to move on, little buddy. |

That film looks amazing. Like so bad it becomes amazing. |
Bad news, my classes this year are absurdly far away (not even on the campus) because ASU hates math majors and refuses to put upper division math classes in the math building. The good news is that I have 15 minutes between class. Should I adjust my walking route to this?

nice gif of the mad men chick, but who/what is a MEW? I'm confused

Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She is a mutual wife of many bass forum residents.
That is about how I'd describe any American black comedy (as in, black people doing comedy; not to be confused with black comedy, the genre). I think, for the same reasons, I'm not a fan of most black comedians.
I'm certainly a fan of several. Just when they recreate a British comedy, it's just horrible. In the British version there's an ongoing joke about a discolouration in the skin on some guys hand, he freaks out a bit and think he's sick because a doctor tells him it could be a pigment mutation. In the US version, Tracey Jordan plays the same character and is like "WHAT THE SHIT MAN?! LIKE THE HULK OR SOMETHING?!?!?!?!?!?!" The point is, the whole movie sucked dick. |
Here is a side by side comparison of the trailers, just to orchestrate my point.

1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + ... + 2^n + ... = -1.
Truth. |
Every single Amercian version of a film or TV series from England or Australia I've seen has just been god-awful. It's like they take a series/film based on subtlety, or heavily laden with idioms and colloquial/national humour, remove it, and say "hey look, we've made a brilliant thing here, look how obviously funny it is because the show we used as a base is."
Just the pure 'in your face' nature of translated humour hurts my head. It takes away so much from the source material, are producers afraid that American's just won't understand things that aren't Americanised? Examples include: Kath & Kim, Death at a Funeral, Wilfred, Life on Mars, even Little Britain, Top Gear (although the Australian version sucked dick also - unsurprising).
I agree with that for the most part, expect for wilfred. I haven't seen the UK version, and only a few episodes of the US, but it was pretty funny. We definitely butchered Top Gear, but they are still making that show in the UK so I just watch that anyway. Also, although you didn't mention it, I enjoy both the UK and US offices. They are so different that I can watch one without trying to compare it to the other, something apparently a lot of brits can't seem to do. What I don't understand is why good comedies last like 2 seasons over there. I realize we get carried away over here and don't put shows out of their misery when their time has come, but c'mon...extras was hilarious, and now ricky gervais is off making sh*tty movies and hosting awards shows instead of doing what he does best. |

I could understand only two seasons of UK shows if there were as many episodes per season as shows have in America, but at only 6 or 7, I always end up wanting more. :( |
Damn, somebody DESTROYED this Carvin:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Customized-CARVIN-6-String-Bass-Guitar-/360423274410?pt=Guitar&hash=item53eae6b7aa But I kind of like it. If it stays below $100, I might even buy it. |
I would rock that thing. Would def fill the holes and probably cut it down even more to like a sorta steinberger shape, paint it neon green or something.

I like it as is, although I'd probably fill the holes with some sort of LED lighting that runs off of the battery. I'd also need to figure out a good upper-horn strap solution. I'm dead serious about possibly buying that if the price stays low. |
I'd go with something hand percussiony oriented as functional cool look, but really my question is how does it sound?

For the most part I find the American Office just annoying. Seems like it's trying too hard or something. Wilfred is Straayyyaaannn, not British. It's a lot better in it's original form, cheap, crude, and certainly without Elijah fucking Wood in it. Check out "Life's too Short", Gervais' newest show. Pretty funny, mockumentary, I've only seen one episode but was worth checking out imo. Here's one clip which pretty much sets the tone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKTh7zBIcrM |

Probably like any mid-90's Carvin LB76. I found the pickups to be a bit dull for my tastes, so I'd probably replace them with some Delanos. But goddamn Carvin basses play like butter. It's not even fair. I'd have to replace that wood bridge too. The thing looks rickety. A Hipshot D-style bridge or an ETS MKIII would look nice. |

Hmm, talkbox.
So I hear the Grammy awards nominations for best rock album include Wasting Light and I'm With You. I'm so torn. |
That reminds me, did anyone here do Latin? I never did that, blast.

It's something I'd like to do in the future, but learning German is a much higher priority as it will directly affect my chances of getting into a Master's or, preferably, a PhD program. |
both bad albums tbh.

and latin is a bad language. ain't no fucker speaks that anymore dude.

Up until the mid 1800's, all important scientific texts (and many other books) were written in Latin because it was considered somewhat of a universal language amongst scholars. I'm not sure why it fell out of favor, though. |

This. Because English continues to evolve, and as a young language more favour was put into it. English is such a bizarre language when you get down to it, Latin is a lot more efficient and yes, was considered as "the" scientific language, and still is used in taxonomy. |

I suspect America reaching "world superpower" status had something to do with the influence as well. Something interesting I just learned, the "no splitting infinitives" and "don't end sentences with a preposition" rules were directly lifted from Latin where it was actually impossible to do either.
Don't be hating on RHCP. Best album since Californication.
Not hating, just not a fan of the album. What do you put it on? |
You put vegemite on anything :)
Its awesome with cheese on toast, or like a toasted cheese sandwich i guess |
you give vegemite to people you wish a fate worse than genital cancer.

i'd listen to this guy ^ - he seems to know what's up with vegemite and its terrible cousins with different names - marmite et al. |
Put Vegemite on toast, or on a sandwich with cheese.
It is a man's food. |
I recently recorded some acoustic guitar tracks with my buddy. I used his tuner and tuned to drop C#. After hours getting all of the mics placed perfectly, working out the kinks with his Lexicon interface, and getting the cleanest takes possible, I went home. The next day he sent me the tracks so that I could record my bassline, and for whatever reason, I was totally out of tune.
It turns out, his tuner was set to Concert Bb mode instead of concert C, which I believe means that I was tuned UP to drop Eb, right? |
you'd probably want to ask a brass player rather than a bass player.

i prefer marmite and promite to vegemite. They taste like beer you can use vegemite and hot water to make a mock miso soup too |
