If you're expecting grind then yeah it is, but if you're into them for the weirdness of it all then I think it's logical step forward. Don't get me wrong I love the old **** as much as the next guy, I actually owned that MITB split before I sold it with the rest of my Locust **** on here a few months ago, but I think [I]New Erections[/I] is on par with Daughters' [i]Hell Songs[/i] in it's continuation of the bands core sound while stripping away unneeded parts.
