They've only released one album since this, so it'd be the same scenario if it was 20 years ago. I take WHW's music seriously (I know it's lol on this forum if an album emotionally captivates anyone) but their new album doesn't do anything for me. I know he's saying the "music is good" but I look for something more than just how it sounds. Like I said, I bet there's 50 albums that you can compare their sound too, thus rendering it pretty damn forgettable.

This is partly due to Tom leaving. Rain Irving didn't even write the lyrics, so him singing about all Tom's experiences/events seems stupid.

Nepenthe 11-13-2009 02:45 AM

emotional captivation hahaha

Nostalgia 11-13-2009 02:47 AM

Swanson's back in Hour of 13. New tracks on their myspace. More at 11.

The Flabbit Rides High 12-02-2009 03:10 PM

I quite like a bit of doom!

Recently been loving Pentagram's entire discography (even though some of it is questionable in quality, its all pretty sweet). Although the coolest thing I about Show Em How to me was the album title.

I know they arn't "doom metal" in its strictest sense, I guess its traditional doom?

Also a big fan of Witchcraft from Sweden. In fact, all swedish rock bands atm. :)

Electric Wizard rules!

pate 12-02-2009 03:58 PM

Welcome. A lot of us are trad doom fans here.

gmoneyguy 12-02-2009 07:51 PM

Just got around to listening to Shrinebuilder the other day. Pretty good from the two times I listened to it.

Bleekill 12-02-2009 07:55 PM

Yeah I like it alot. It would be hard to f*ck up an album with those dudes behind it. Solar Benediction and Blind For All to See are probably my faves.

Txus 12-02-2009 07:57 PM

I thought it was pretty mediocre since I was expecting much more from that lineup.

gmoneyguy 12-02-2009 08:01 PM

Definitely wasn't mind blowing, but I still enjoyed it.

When I went to check out the albums for Grand Magus on here, I realized that these guys deserve much more attention on here. They are the business.

Tyler 12-04-2009 02:45 AM

I think they're pretty well liked. They just haven't put out anything super-recently, hence the lack of current, topical discussion.

rasputin 12-04-2009 08:56 AM

i've only heard iron will which was pretty cool

Ventriloquist 12-04-2009 09:05 AM

Grand Magus are great. Love the singer's voice, quite talented.

Any of you guys heard 11th Hour? One of my friends is constantly nagging me to get their album.

Stormrider 12-04-2009 10:08 AM

I didn't really like Iron Will, actually.

SteelErectedb4you8er 12-04-2009 10:45 AM

Iron Will is more of NWOBHM album than doom...though, there are a couple doomy tracks on there. I really like it alot. If you want their doom record, you should get Monument, that album owns.

Well, Iron Will came out last year, but there wasn't much of a response to it...thats what I am getting at, but yeah, I love them.

But I do love me some stoner/doom

Did you like Wolf's Return?

I LOVE Iron Will, but Wolf's Return doesn't do much for me.

Tyler 12-04-2009 12:34 PM

On that note, I too love Iron Will, but the self title doesn't do it for me.

I was convinced I was listening to Messiah when I first heard Iron Will.

Carl Sagan 12-04-2009 12:34 PM

iron will is one of the most metal albums ever

Bleekill 12-04-2009 12:42 PM

Yeah, I wish Grand Magus would tour the U.S. east coast.

I haven't heard it. I'll check it out.

Angmar 12-04-2009 02:18 PM

Just got Iron Will yesterday.

Really digging it.

I agree about the self titled.

For me, they're releases form a weird parallel.

s/t > Does nothing for me.

Monument =~= same style as s/t > I love it

Wolf's Return > Does nothing for me.

Iron Will =~= same style as Wolf's Return > I love it.

I hope I like the upcoming one as much as Iron Will.

Are Spiritual Beggars worth listening to?

Jaundice 12-04-2009 05:19 PM
