Oh. Well either way Sorrow is awesome. Isn't MLOP the one without Rick Wright?

No The Final Cut is the one without Rick.

AMLOR and TDB are without Roger.

MidnightRider 03-23-2006 03:03 PM

I don't have The Final Cut, just a few tracks from it. I'll probably pick it up someday, but it's not really high on my priority list right now.

On a side note, On An Island is awesome.

When I saw the Machine they did an AMAZING cover of Sorrow. Since then I haven't been able to stop listening to it.

God, everyone in this thread got to go to the concerts I wrenched my heart out to try to see but couldn't, and now they have to lord it over me like... lords lording food over peasants :(

Mr. Black 03-24-2006 11:47 AM

The Machine are a floyd tribute band, I assume.
On a side note, On An Island is awesome.
My cousin bought that, he didn't seem to like it much. I'll try and lend it off him.

magicbus 03-24-2006 07:16 PM

Has anybody heard of "Back Against The Wall"? Its a cover of the The Wall (the whole album) done by a bunch of prog artists. Ian Anderson, Dweezil Zappa, Chris Squire, Alan White, Steve Howe, Keith Emerson, Steve Morse, Steve Lukather, Robby Kreiger, Tommy Shaw, Rick Wakeman, lots of guys. Some of the songs sound kinda weird, but it's pretty cool for the most part.

Nice bump/deleting old post and copying pasting it's contents.

That's my patented technique. That way I don't have to double post just to bump.

I have heard of it, although never listened to it though.

Do you have AIM? YSI is not being friendly, but I could send it to you over AIM.

I like The Final Cut. Used to not like it at all, but it's really grown on me.

So I picked up Obscurred By Clouds the other day, I really like it so far.

that is a great album:cool:

LF96 03-27-2006 09:33 AM

Today I bought a french pressing of Saucerful of Secrets on vinyl for 8 euros. Gonna listen to it in a minute (though I have actually already heard most of it). :)

Ephemeral 03-27-2006 04:36 PM

Obscurred By Clouds is a sweet album.

Riva 03-27-2006 05:16 PM

That Back Against The Wall sounds intriguing. Is it widely available?

And Obscured By Clouds is great, especially Free Four, Wots Uh The Deal and The Gold It's In The. Classic, catchy, thoughtful rock songs.

Yeah, Back Against the Wall is widely avaliable. At least, I've seen it in my local Sam Goody and my local Sam Goody's selection is about as terrible as possible. So if they have it, you can probably find it anywhere.

And yeah, OBC is great. Wots Uh the Deal is probably my favorite off of it.

Riva 03-27-2006 05:27 PM

Depends on the situation. Nothing better than going down the highway playing The Gold It's In The at full volume, singing along. But Wots Uh The Deal and Mudmen is better when you're lying down in a hammock or the like, on a peaceful sunny day.

standard 03-27-2006 05:55 PM

I am really enjoying On An Island.

On An Island and Smile are my favorite tracks as of now.

MidnightRider 03-28-2006 04:01 PM

The title track is my personal favorite, but I'm sure that'll change. I've only listened to the album 3 or 4 times all the way through.

I planned on listening to WYWH before bed last night but couldn't stay awake past SOYCD.

I love that track too. Eh, I think being influenced by too many bands is a bad thing.

Riva 03-28-2006 04:55 PM

I usually end up being so caught up in Wish You Were Here that I can't fall asleep to it. :p

robo2448 03-28-2006 05:09 PM

When I listen to Wish You Were Here, I just end up amazed in a trance. Like I'll be sitting in my school library doing homework, but if I put on that album, I just stop and start like staring into space. People can talk to me and I'll just be completely ignoring everything and focusing on the album. Happens to me everytime I listen to it. Incredible album.

Speaking of Wish You Were Here, I just downloaded a live show by a sweet jam band called U-Melt where they cover the whole album. I haven't listened to it yet, but I have pretty high expectations.

BigTrav415 03-28-2006 05:11 PM

Riva FTW

I do the same thing, I can never fall asleep listening to good music. When I do manage to, I have some epic dreams :)

I can't wait to start learning some Mason grooves when I get my drumset

It will take you approximately three minutes to go from never played drums before to "could've been in Pink Floyd".

Thats one of the reasons I love that album. I think The Gold It's In The...... is one of Gilmour's most underrated guitar solo's. All the songs on that album reflect so many different moods. Its like the diversity of Pink Floyd put together on one album.

So true.. As much as I love the guy, he wasn't a very good drummer.

And as much as I love More, I think that Obscured By Clouds does show off their variety in a more flowing fashion.
So true.. As much as I love the guy, he wasn't a very good drummer.
True, but a monster like Flo Mournier wouldn't have suited Pink Floyd, I think.

Also, Fearless is such a friggin' awesome song.

Lunch 03-28-2006 08:32 PM

I'm not saying Mason wasn't a good fit, but the fact remains that he wasn't very good.

Here wo go with the "ZOMG hit fit perfectly, kept time, and was solid. Therefore he's an amazing drummer". This is commonly known as the Ringo Starr Argument.

BigTrav415 03-28-2006 08:42 PM

I won't start another debate about why I love Mason, but I will state what I believe is a common fact; Mason > Ringo any day of the week. At the very least, Mason had some variety in his grooves, not just bass->snare->bass->snare in 4/4 for every song. His drumming definitely went downhill over time (a product I believe of a combination of their shift from psychadelic to space rock and Water's [and Gilmour's] growing power struggle and perfectionism), but he definitely has his shining moments.

Riva 03-28-2006 09:03 PM

He wasn't an amazingly technical drummer, but he wasn't a bad one either.

unComfortablyNumb 03-28-2006 09:06 PM

They are showing The Wall on Fuse right now. Anyone else watching it? I haven't seen it in a long time. So it's sweet to get to watch it again (even if it does have commercials thrown in between).

PepsiMetal 03-28-2006 11:34 PM

Who's the person screaming in the great gig in the sky?

magicbus 03-28-2006 11:58 PM

Clare Torrey.

YOU PEOPLE LEAVE RINGO ALONE!

Octopus' Garden is a good song :upset:

Riva 03-29-2006 12:30 AM

She has a fantastic voice.

LF96 03-29-2006 07:35 AM

I think Mason is a decent drummer. Most of the time he'll just settle for the basic rythms and such, but he sure is able to pull out some interesting things. Like on the live version of A Saucerful Of Secrets from Live At Pompeii, what he does there is quite nice (though still not hard or anything). The live version of ASOS is by the way much better than the original, I must say, I love the one from LAP but was kinda disappointed with the one on the album. The same goes for Set The Controls actually. I think this really shows how Pink Floyd had grown as a band between ASOS and Meddle.

Yea the album version of SOS isn't the best, but you should listen to it on Ummagumma. That's my favorite one. I like Gilmour's vocals at the end better on Ummagumma than on LAP.
