I dont like Les Pauls. Too heavy
|
They are quite heavy. Les Pauls are pretty much the polar oposite of my guitar. I commonly joke with my friend (he plays a Les Paul) that his guitar weighs more than he does (he's a skinny guy) while my guitar almost subtracts weight. Ah, good times.
|
I have a Vintage SG. It's quite heavy. That doesn't affect how great it is though.
|
By the way, how are the avatars comin Josh?
|
I'll have them done when I get to get back on my computer. That will hopefully be around the middle of next week.

I LOVE Les Pauls...the tone on those is amazing. I have a Les Paul that i got for a great price...1300 used. |
I wish i had money for an acoustic/electric let alone any money
|
Acoustic-electrics sound amazing. I would buy one if I didn't have such a crappy acoustic that needs replacing first.
|
can someone reccomend what I album I should get by them first? thanks
|
Dont matter...unless....have you heard anything yet?
|
can someone reccomend what I album I should get by them first? thanks
well if your not used to their style of music or not used to screamy vocals, i would start with hatecrew deathroll, the vocals arent quite as harsh and that way you can get warmed up to them...if you already listen to death metal, black metal ect, i would get follow the reaper...the vocals are more screamy...follow the reaper is probably my favorite album by them :thumb: |

Yea I'm out of cash too...spent it all on a Nightwish sweatshirt that turned out to be backordered, so it's gonna take even LONGER to get it. |
I'm getting ready to buy a $2,000 computer.
/money related To the guy asking about albums: Get HCDR, you won't regret it. |

 Check my user title too. Jim merged my deleted account into this one.

I was wondering about that too...cool

listen to our bodom covers- there new. |
Not bad. Seems like you dont know some parts of the songs too well. Might want to touch up those songs and they'll be really good. How long have you been playing guitar?
|
Dammit i can't get these to play...
http://www.myspace.com/reusableheroBAND
listen to our bodom covers- there new.
pretty sloppy stuff with no drums. the rythem guitar is pretty ****y quality and the solo's arnt bad but need better timming with witht he rythem -needs better timing -sounds fuzzy, suggest finding a better recording program -needs drums other than that the guitar work really istn that bad, actually pretty good just not the best puting it together, spend some more time in recording and getting the timing down, listen to the song in the back round is what i do for timing. or just listen to song in backround for the rythem and do the lead listening to the rythem. id recomend adobe audition to record, ull have to dl that with bit torrents though. unless you wanna pay $400 dolla EDIT: **** my bad |
you know you quoted the wrong thing right?
|
I thought that wasn't too great you guys need some work. I didn't listen to the original but I did listen to Kissing the Shadows, and your leads are wayy too fast, you aren't together with the rythym. Also you need to find a better way to record, and put some vocals and drums in there.
|

That sounds like me. I blow all my money on t-shirts of bands I love and CDs that I can't find in stores. |
Are you guys doing a cover for the cover band competition thing?
|
http://www.myspace.com/reusableheroBAND
listen to our bodom covers- there new.
Not bad, but I agree with flames. Also, it seems like the timing is off just a tad between the lead guitar and rhythm. Don't focus so much on going fast, but on staying together with the other guitar. :thumb: Very noticeable on Kissing the Shadows. On Bed of Razors, you've got part of the main riff wrong. Was it intentional? If not: After you play the first part of it, it's supposed to change slightly to a different note instead of the one you were playing before; you kept it the same. :) Hello everyone. Favorite Bodom video and why?
Are you guys doing a cover for the cover band competition thing?
I have no clue about that. I didn't even hear about the competition until not that long ago. I don't know, is anyone doing anything? Trashed, Lost and Strungout. I like the song and I like seeing them all play. :thumb: |
Hello everyone. Favorite Bodom video and why?
Deadnight Warrior The band looks so young and the production is so bad that I can't help but laugh everytime I watch it. |

I thought Janne was wearing a bright red hoodie until I saw that it was just the lights. That and Alexi's weird, flame, evil-look thing is so unbelieveably cheesy. |
Leah did you ever have a chance to listen to my gps some more? I want some suggestions for what I can do better and what I've done well.
|
I like the lead parts in the main riffs. I guess you could try to make it heavier, but then again i dont know what sound you're going for. What do you want to sould like, or who?
|
I'm confused about what I want to sound like really. I think I want to sound more like a Maiden band, but with more melodic influences and a bit of thrash and powermetal influence. You can kind of see in the songs that they switch moods a bit. I think Potential is a good example of Maiden with more melody because of the leads, but I really don't know if I want to be a lot more melodic and do something like Bodom or Wintersun.
|
Ahh I see you have a new name. If you are interested in seeing the songs just ask me and I'll upload them again here or send them over AIM or something.
|
Well i guess you could just fuse the two genres. Like stick with the cool lead stuff over everything, but add in some heavy, melodic shit. Also, in the verses or chorus or something create some kind of hamonization fills here and there, like In Flames does. You're doing good though.
EDIT: Also listen to his DONT HOLD BACK thing. Thats important :thumb: |
Ok well thanks for the support. I just wanted some confidence in my songwriting cause these songs are going on a demo soon, and if that ever worked out, they'd be on a first album.
|
Cool...Im gonna post some of my stuff on the hatecrew site if your interested. Its for powertab though, fair warning

Power thrash with maiden = Iced Earth Just write songs how they need to sound, dont restrict yourself to trying to write within certain limits. Itll just make your music repetetive, monotonous and rigid. |
Yeah it does sound like the formula for Iced Earth, but we have less thrash and more power and maiden in us I'd say. Iced Earth is not known for their leads, while my music focuses much more on lead than rythym.
johnny cash writes music
alexi laiho taps away as fast as he can and everyone is impressed. it's the age old melody vs technicality thing. and melody wins IMO EDIT: you're an idiot
Johnny Cash doesn't write ****, as he is dead. Anyway. I like COB, Norther and Kalmah, though I personally like COB the best. Norther just sounds like a less catchy COB ripoff. |

My band is... Uh...well, we've only had 3 practices, but i think we're starting to sound more interesting. We don't really sound like a set band yet, but it's getting there. I just realized, though, there's NO way our band is gonna be ready in time for the cover competition... :upset: |
Leah did you ever have a chance to listen to my gps some more? I want some suggestions for what I can do better and what I've done well.
No, sorry. I will try to do it now. EDIT: Mike - I'm sorry! That sucks, I was looking forward to hearing a Nemo cover. :upset: EDIT2: Ultima feedback: 66 - Pretty good. I like the somewhat....I don't know....dark feel about it. Especially the opening riff. Again, I think I would be able to give you better feedback if I actually heard the song; not just a midi. I'm liking the solo very much; pretty rad. I also noticed that you had three guitars on this song? Nice touch. Potential - Good intro, but I have some advice. The part where the rhythm guitar starts playing the 0-2-2-1-1 and then there is the rest, and 3-1-0-0, it would sound even cooler if you had the guitar play the first three notes (referring to 0-2-2) and do a barbend or harmonic or something. Some kind of squeal, to make it sound more interesting during the intro. Personally, things like what I'm suggesting (IMO) make the listener really think "wow, that sounds so cool!" Get my drift? It would make it sound more interesting. I like what the lead is playing on the verse; catchy. LOVE the prechorus with the harmonized guitars. :thumb: Good job on that. Solo. Good lead stuff. BUT. In my opinion, you should have something stronger going on with either the drums or the rhythm guitar to back that up. What you have going on now doesn't give the solo justice. Love the bass stuff afterwards; not too many bands show off what their bass player can do. It's unique; stick with it. Riff 2 - The opening is good. The thing that made me interested in the song was the prechorus. Good drum work there. Props for that one. The only thing I would suggest about the prechorus would be the lead guitar; could use some difference in the riff. Just the 14-16-17-19 thing gets a little repetetive; again, try some bends or harmonics on that part. Either that or just change it up a little. The Bridge is good. The beginning of Interlude B: :thumb: . Solo is awesome. Now, the part between the first part of the lead guitar's solo and the second part, where the rhythm is playing those four (I think) bars. On the last bar, I would put something a little different for the rhythm, something to really add to the solo. Some downward runs or something. The re-intro was a good idea, really nice. During the re though, I would add some really cool either bass riffs or some double bass drum stuff. Something to go on in the background which would really enhance it. Overall, good work. Hows that for a review? :p |
K. A few days ago I burned Follow The Reaper and Something Wild on CD. After giving both two listens, I can honestly say I love Children Of Bodom now. Folow The Reaper was brilliant. The riffs, keyboards, solos, melodies, they were all amazing. Something Wild on the other hand, pissed me off. THey were some parts of that CD that were just great, but thtose parts were few and far between and surrounded by annoying bullshit. It was their debut, and they got much better, so it's cool though.
