That depends. What kind of music are you going to be playing with that thing?
|
metal a little jazz cuz i like jazz but mostly rock metal
|
The mega bell ride is LOUD as hell. Also very little wash. Good for metal, but not for jazz. I would recommend the HH RBDR. Very versatile, but still enough power for harder styles
|
whats do you mean very little wash and who makes The cymbal u recomended?
|
Howdy! I'm buying a pair of 14" K/Z Dyno Beats, and want to buy a bottom hat so that i can still play my jazz with more wash. And i was thinking, for extra wash, could i get something like a 14" K Dark crash instead of a bottom hat or would it play oddly? I like a bit of trashiness, but not too much, would that work?

I believe he is referring to the Sabian Hand Hammered Raw Bell Dry Ride |
K Cust Dark
zofo, look into k custom rides
OK...played around on K Customs and took home the "DARK" ride........sounds great but is a little washy...... I also tried the Paragon and it was great.....more stick def, cutting and ping. Man am I confused......not sure the Dark Ride fits in my setup..... |

i think you would actually have better results in using a plain pairing of K Regular Hats. |
Hi I am looking for 4 new crashes could guys recomend me any. Perferably from Sabian and Zildjian. I was thinkin some A custom crashes but i have no idea the differences with the sizes of them if you could recomend some that would be great. And i am trying to stay away from thin crashes. I would like a nice loud crash but that is not all I want. I play metal , rock, and alternative stuff. So thanks.

Hey all. Right now I have 2 rides, one is a 20" K Custom Dark Ride, and its great for lower pitched riding with lots of overtones, and an occasional trashy crash, but the bell doesn't cut it at all. The other ride I have is a ZBT 20" Ride, my first ride, very cheap, and I only like it for the bell, but even then I'm not satisfied, there are way too many overtones and the bell is almost painful when hit loudly with the side of the stick as I like to do.
So, I'm looking for ride that is fairly high pitched, yet loud enough to hear through the rock. Most importantly, I want a ride with a nice high pitched, cutting bell, that sounds good and loud when hit with either the tip or the side of the stick. I was looking into a 22" Sabian AAX Metal Ride. Any tips? |

If you were thinking about A Customs, go with either Medium or Projection, I'd say 18" for both main crashes, and for the other two either go bigger to a 20" or down to a 17" or 16". Maybe look at some K crashes for a smaller crash, a K dark crash medium thin or something. Also chekc out some Avedis crashes, the medium thin, medium and rock crashes are all good. Stear clear of Z customs, just big pieces of metal that take a mountain to move and break anyway because of the force you need to play them with. |

check out massmusic.net. you can get a AA rock ride for abut $160. |
Are sabian aax stage hats good hats?
|
b8's>zxt's>zbt's right? well my friend sold me his old b8's for eighty bucks to go buy zxt's
anyways could someone define Decay, Wash, and any other cymbal terms regarding the sound i know there are more but i am forgetting them |
Your friend has done a pointless switch. If you have Sheet cymbals, your next step up is to buy cast cymbals, not more or a different kind of sheet cymbals. (Please say they aren't ZXTi)
Ok, A custom 20" Ping Ride, or 20" K custom Session Ride? I know these are TOTALLY different rides, but I can't decide which one for punkish music. I know the AC suits the music (sounds great on our recordings) but I love the K custom Session. Your opinions? |
I'm afraid the K Custom Session wouldn't be as open for punk. Gadd's cymbals tend to be a little choked. That said I read the 20" is much more open than the original 18", so I would check it out anyway.
Hey what'a'ya know, my first recomendation in like 30 pages. I used to be the king of this shit. |
Yeah, I don't like the 18" as much. The 20" is the best cymbal I have ever heard, but it might not suit my style of music. I am looking for a versatile ride, and the KC is more versatile than the AC, but listening to recordings with the AC has made me re-consider which ride. I know mixing plays a huge part in the sounds on a recording, but the AC sounds fantastic.
My local drum shop is getting them both in soon, so I'm gonna spend a while looking at each aspect of each ride. |
Great idea, I like where your head's at.
 |
Thank you. :)

only one of the most versatile pair of hats... so i guess that makes them pretty good haha AND i think portnoy uses them, and u look like a portnoy fan |
Most versatile hats are 'A' New Beats I think. They are awesome for everything.

24" AAX Metal Ride |
Alrighty, i'm undertaking the daunting task of PICKING NEW HATS.
Something to go along with HHX evolution crashes, HH medium thin crashes. Brand doesn't matter. as for specific sounds, i'd like a semi dark tone, average amount of wash but not trashy, and a defined stick hit closed. I hope I've made sense, seeing as how I'm terrible at putting sound into words. |
OK guys, It's time for me to pick a new ride.
Sound: Strong Stick Defenition without much wash. I would like it to have a strong bell sound as well. I'd also like it to be a semi-bright sound, but not to pingy. Companies: I'd perfer a Paiste ride but I am open to ALL suggestions as long as I can get it at Guitar Center ($250 store credit). Considered Already: 20" Paiste Reflector Dry Ride 20" Paiste 2002 Ride 21" Sabian HHX Dry Ride Thanks for any help! |
I won't be getting these for awhile, but its never too early to start looking.
I'm looking for a second crash cymbal. I have a Sabian AA 18" Medium Crash, and will soon have Zildjian New Beat hi-hats, so I was wondering what a good second crash would be. I don't necessarily want a 'secondary' crash, but another primary crash that would sound different from the Sabian but still compliment it nicely. I was thinking about Paiste 2002s.....different, but similar. |
to Expresso: Look at A New Beats, getting some myself and played a pair today, best sounding hats I think I've ever heard. Clean, clear and defined chick sound and a nice open sound, not trashy. If the New Beats are too bright, look at K hats, I've played some in brilliant finish and man did they sound good, nice dark warm tone with a good chick sound and open wash.
*random info* Played on an A Sweet Ride today wihtout knowing, the makrings were almost completely gone and man did it sound good. I know its been popularised by pop-punk durmmers but it has such a nice ride and bell that I was pretty astonished when i finally figured out what it was. Has a nice crash on the edge as well (as is rather well known). I'd sugest it to anyone wanting a lighter ride, works great in a jazz setting (which what I was using it for today), and would also work great in a rock/punk situation. I woudlnt recomend it to anyone looking for a heavy and pingy ride, hwile it did have a good bell, it wouldjn't be heard through walls of guitars. |
i need a nice cheap ride and hihiat for hardrock/metal music,
|
Sabian AA I think. I don't know much about Sabain, but generally they are cheaper than Zildjian and Paiste (depending on where you are).
|
Hmm so anyway i was thinking of getting a few more crashes to go along with my incoming catalina birch. im gonna play mainly mainstream rock, nothing too heavy, looking to play "clean songs". might veer off into some pop rock...maybe foo fighters.. oasis... greenday kinda things? yea i already have an xs20 set and i just want to get some extra crashes. I was looking to get an evolution 16" and an a custom 16" and an a custom 16" fast crash. opinions on this? whether its ok or there are better cymbals to suit my style of music. eg different model or size? im not gonna be able to try a lot of em out as my local music store doesnt stock many models and im gonna order online so thats why im asking for opinions on what has the sound im probably looking for. thanks.

Hey everyone,
I'm kinda picky when it comes to chinas. I'm looking for a china that isn really very harsh at all. Something that would blend really well, and even have crash-like qualitites. Thanks! |
You might be better off with a trashy sort of crash:
- HHX Ozone Crash - Oriental Crash of Doom - HHXtreme Crash But if you don't like those (and the Ozone Crash is very good) then try a K Custom china. |
