If you had to have an Opeth song played at you're funeral, what would it be? I asked myself this question and came up with too many songs I would want. :p
haha, how nice of you to ask.

I have this all worked out:

2 songs are by Opeth:

in my time of need

and as grande finale:
to bid you farewell

but siince you must always submitt 3 songs, I have to think of one, before I die.

but those two are songs that will be played at my funferal for certain

Det_Nosnip 03-01-2005 02:38 PM

Dirge for November? Dirges are somewhat appropriate for funerals, being that they're...designed to lament the dead.

Cain 03-01-2005 03:30 PM
On the question of other bands that Opeth fans like, I'm hoping Rush. Because, you know, they rule and all.
I like Rush. They are one of my favorite bands.

Opeth song at funeral: Benighted.

BradyEB 03-02-2005 12:55 AM

Spot on with In My Time Of Need. Thats what ild have.

Grey Incision 03-02-2005 01:34 AM

demon of he fall, if they could hear the lyrics, then they'd better watch out

i'd say either to bid you farewell or weakness. Weakness just has that depressing feeling to it.

ArcLite 03-02-2005 03:23 AM

Windowpane or BWP for me.

theEndisNear 03-02-2005 04:38 AM

To bid you farewell for sure

Magicaltroll 03-02-2005 11:06 PM

I jsut heard Eternal Soul Torture for the first time, and its an awesome song. I've heard that hes used some parts from the older songs to add to the "newer ones". and if thats so, are there any parts in that song that showed up in any "newer" songs? because i havent really heard anything like that song, but i really like it.

im pretty sure thats there are no parts that turn up in newer songs, but i havent listened to the song for a while. If you like that you'll probs like Into The Frost Of Winter (Orchid bonus track)

Grey Incision 03-04-2005 03:58 PM

into the frost of winter is the only opeth track i have not heard:(

Deth 03-04-2005 06:44 PM
into the frost of winter is the only opeth track i have not heard:(
It's not that great. Plus, the production sucks.

Grey Incision 03-05-2005 03:36 AM

i still wanna hear what it sounds like

Det_Nosnip 03-05-2005 03:37 AM

 Yeah, it's pretty....ah..."raw."

Deth 03-06-2005 02:07 PM

if by raw you mean "crap" I agree. Not that the song is bad...it just sounds bad.

eternal soul torture was a demo recorded during the Orchid sessions, but was never put on the record.
then on Morningrise, Mikeal took the song apart, and used some riffs and parts for a few songs on Morningrise.

and In the frost of winter is bad production wise, but I do like the song for the rest.

they should do a re-recording of that song, and release it on their next album or so.
I do like the song

bahamut_0 03-07-2005 10:19 AM

Hmmm what song to have played at my funeral........now that is a tough one.

The Night and the Silent Water. It's one of my favourites, the first song I really fell in love with.

Grey Incision 03-09-2005 12:58 AM

any word on the new record?

ArcLite 03-09-2005 12:59 AM

Haven't heard anything myself, but I assure you I'm eagerly awaiting.

BradyEB 03-09-2005 01:16 AM

I'm buzzing to hear it along with DT's new album!

Grey Incision 03-09-2005 01:18 AM

DT can't bring anything new out that will impress me i don't think, that stream of consciousness solo just blew me away completely, and they've already experimented with a lot of different sounds, so yeah, but ay, i'll still get it:)

Opeth's album first though

Det_Nosnip 03-09-2005 03:37 AM

Hey, don't forget about Tool...if they ever release the ****ing thing. And hasn't Symphony X been working on a new album for a while now?

Grey Incision 03-09-2005 03:45 AM

That's true, i'll eagerly be awaiting those, also, the new strapping young lad album, i enjoy their stuff too. This shall be a good year for music, Mars volta have kicked it off, and i think opeth will end it:)

ArcLite 03-09-2005 03:47 AM
Hey, don't forget about Tool...if they ever release the ****ing thing. And hasn't Symphony X been working on a new album for a while now?
Yes, the X is currently over half way done writing. They're taking they're time but say it's going to be their best yet. I can't wait for it.

**** oath man, i'll be getting that tool album, dont keep me waiting maynard! Im also investing in the new NIN album

That's personally my favorite song on Orchid and I'd love to see it rerecorded, even though the riffs have already been used in other songs.

Other news, not sure if it's been posted here, but the rumors swirling are that Opeth has signed with Century Media.

DT
Tool
Meshuggah
Porcupine Tree
NIN

a good year it is

Deth 03-09-2005 08:21 PM

I was jsut listening to "In The Mist She Was Standin", and it has some of the same parts as "Eternal Soul Torture".
I just thought I would point that out :D

I actually like these songs just as much as i like the other Opeth songs. For some reason i like the "production" on the bonus songs, theres jsut something i like about really raw production.
I wouldn like that "production" on EVERY opeth song though :thumb:
It's just very fitting to me.

don't forget, strapping young lad, mars volta (already released) and the damageplan album which was 99% complete or something.

indeed a good year :chug:

bball_1523 03-10-2005 12:17 AM

you guys hear about some summer festival that Opeth is planning to do? It's called sounds from the underground, or something along those words. It's supposed to go against Ozzfest, but the bands on the bill are mostly metalcore.

really? What parts? I think there may be elements of Forest Of October in the song too

I already have the new Mars Volta album, it officialy released now isn't it?
sounds good, but I need to give it some more listening so that I can appreciate it to the fullest :thumb:

Yeah, but except Lamb of God and Maybe Unearth, I hate everyone else. But I'll go if they come near me.

I wonder how many people will go for Opeth?

IvortheEngineDriver 03-10-2005 04:35 PM

Anyone know if PT is going to tour with Opeth again like in 2002? Hopefully...god, I want to see both bands. If I can see PT, DT, Tool and Opeth...I could die happy.

Det_Nosnip 03-10-2005 05:13 PM

Where ya been, Ivor? Haven't seen you around here in forever!

Magicaltroll 03-10-2005 05:55 PM

In The Mist She Was Standing=about 3:50, the softer part.
Eternal Soul Torture= about 1:00, the softer part.
I haven't noticed any other ones, but if I do I'll post them if yuor interested.
I just love that part thoguh (the similiar parts). It's creepy and awesome.
Where ya been, Ivor? Haven't seen you around here in forever!
Been working and my band's been doing real well. Playin' a lot, just cut a demo...I took a semester off of school though, BIG BIG mistake. But anyway, what up with you?

Opeth rocks! :)

dUSK 03-10-2005 11:21 PM

Upadate on my Opeth collection. Since moving I have picked up Deliverence, Still Life and Morningrise. I'm thinking about getting some special edition MAYH cd as well, as it was in stock at JB Hi-Fi, I guess I'll see how the funds are going.
