Shadows Within 07-18-2005 05:50 PM

also whats the best maiden CD?

IheartSP 07-18-2005 05:52 PM

According to Steve Harris it is Seventh Son of a Seventh son. I'd consider that the best probably too. I think the best 5 are (in no order)

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Piece of Mind
Dance of Death
Number of the Beast
Powerslave

Lord Abortion 07-18-2005 05:53 PM

Maiden's best are

piece of mind
x-factor
seventh son
brave new world
the number of the beast

IheartSP 07-18-2005 05:54 PM

X Factor I think had some good ideas down but I think Blaze is pretty bad. Brave New World is good if your looking for something a little different.

that in order or random?

IheartSP 07-18-2005 05:57 PM

If you are buying your first Maiden album I'd say go with Piece of Mind.
that in order or random?
they are in order IMO
just get them all but those first... :thumb:

shadow_stalker 07-19-2005 01:55 PM

I think i am pretty much alone when i say that 'fear of the dark' is one of the best sounding maiden albums...at least from what i have heard.

Lord Abortion you better see this i have an interview at safeway at 6:30 on wednesday, so we may have a problem practicing.

ah gay! we could either have it before then or postpone it...

FOTD is not a brilliant album, but it sure is produced well...

Stoic 07-19-2005 03:38 PM

All first 7 maiden albums are worth getting. The only one I've kept though is Seventh Son of a Seventh son (=the ultimate one).

Terrorzone 07-19-2005 04:25 PM

I've always had a thing for Powerslave.

exup 07-19-2005 04:30 PM

Two of the few Power Metal bands I never did like...

Brew 07-20-2005 05:32 AM

So my Dad downloaded the new Demons and Wizards album yesterday and I spent most of this morning listening to it.

To be honest...its not impressed me, at all. Its just...boring. The vocals annoy me and the drums/guitar seem too repetitive.

What does everyone else think of the album?

Stoic 07-20-2005 06:06 AM

^Since the first album in overall didnt impress me THAT much I havent bother to check the second one yet

So, BLIND GUARDIAN'S NEW DRUMMER IS FREDERIK EHMKE! He's an unknown dude who applied for the job, impressed the guys and made his dream come true (like George Kollias with Nile)! I hope we soon find out more about him. Full story on the official site: www.blind-guardian.com

EDIT

He's already added in the members section. He's 27. I dont like the bands he likes. http://www.blind-guardian.com/new_version/band_members.php3

/close minded

acefrehleyjendell 07-20-2005 07:11 AM

Has anyone here heard of Dungeon?

They're an amazing Australian Power Metal band.
If you haven't heard them, check 'em out.

Brew 07-20-2005 07:17 AM

I've got a few songs by Dungeon, I quite like them.

I might try and get hold of an album soon.

Dream Theater I could do without, and Soilwork I haven't had a chance to check out. But I do like Danzig and Judas Priest. Should be interesting.

Did anyone else notice that Frederick has the same beard as Shavo from System of a Down?

I've been trying to track them down for months. I was going to ask Jason for some uploads this week.

Brew 07-20-2005 07:29 AM

Cool, as soon as I get some money I'll have a search for it.

//

Do many people in here like Bal-Sagoth? They're a great band but not many people seem to know about them...

RideTheSpiral 07-20-2005 07:44 AM

I can't wait to get the new BG DVD. :-D

I heard a few clips of songs of theirs before...pretty good, from what I remember. That guy has a different voice than a lot of people.

/scrathces head

It's been a year since it was released...

Bal Sagoth are a good band

RideTheSpiral 07-20-2005 07:58 AM

But it had a trailer on their site.

I must have been living under a rock. :upset:

I think Andre lists his favourite album as The Golden Age of Grotesque by Marilyn Manson...

Stoic 07-20-2005 08:04 AM

since Thomen left I've been very skeptical about BG's new direction. Seeing them selling out is my worst nightmare.

Steerpike 07-20-2005 08:14 AM

I wouldn't worry too much. Remember that Blind Guardian have their roots deepest in thrash and speed metal. Their power metal releases were a natural evolution of style.

RideTheSpiral 07-20-2005 08:27 AM

I'm not a fan of their old stuff at all.

Riva 07-20-2005 08:28 AM

Yeah, Blind Guardian started as Speed/Thrash, so they have the ground work for all the heavier genres laid out for them.

So, I was just relistening to the Suidakra album that Neuro uploaded. Man, these guys rock. Seriously. What a fantastic album, and it's based on the Celtic myths of the UK, which is a bonus.
I'm not a fan of their old stuff at all.
"Somewhere Far Beyond" and previous albums, I find better than most of the newer material Blind Guardian released. Though BG is in my top 5 favorite bands, so everything they've released I'll buy :)

Lord Abortion 07-20-2005 11:27 AM

ooohhh...new drummer eh?
looks cool, with similar beard to the system AND QOTSA guys...
likes good bands, well, soilwork aren't good, but still...

In other news I now have all the bodom albums on my computer

HCDR over Hatebreeder? For someone who likes FTR best that surprises me I'd think Hatebreeder would be the closest to that.

I like angels don't kill and needled, sixpounder and lil bloodred better

I haven't had time to listen to the songs I didn't already have much though

Those songs are great. Lil' Bloodred Riding Hood is amazing; I love the chorus keyboard part.
I do agree with SP though, I think Hatebreeder is definately up there with Follow the Reaper.

IheartSP 07-20-2005 01:56 PM

I think it's about time bodom's genre got a real name, like extreme power metal or something. I think it's starting to get big enough. I'm a big fan of the genre, with my favorites being Bodom, Norther, and you can even argue that Wintersun is highly powermetal influenced. Skyfire and Imperanon are bands that have potential for the future, I think they will turn into something good.

Would you put Kalmah with these bands? I'd almost consider them melodic death, but you could argue it is extreme power metal like the others.

I automatically put Kalmah in the same area as I put Norther, Wintersun, Imperanon and Skyfire. The vocals might be a little different, but overall, I think they are pretty alike.

I think for Bodom's genre we should make up something. Like Reaper Metal or something. Pretty lame, but there you are.
