I do agree though that we should not be talking about them with such malice. (I sound like a wise man :p ) they may not be too different from us(they dig the good stuff.

Same at my school, At the talent show during the end of the schoolyear there was a little band that did a cover song by The Allman Brothers Band and that band never even liked classic rock before. |
rush they have one of the greatest drummers and bassists!
|
yes they do. neil peart is ranked in my top 3 drummers. although i wouldnt exactly call geddy lee one of the best bassists but thats just my opinion
|
I think he's one of the best bassist, he has some of the most impressive bass solos, after all, one of Les Claypool's influences was Geddy Lee.
Alex Lifeson of Rush is one of my favorite guitarists also, but I dont think he's one of the best. |
My life revolves around classic rock, and im only 16. I started playing guitar when I was 11 and I've loved classic rock sinse I was 10. Not like all of these posers at my high school walking around with Zeppelin t-shirts, and when I ask them what Zeppelin songs they like, all they can think of is 'Stairway to Heaven'. Grr.

Story of my life. Exept I have better friends ;) They know and play music. |
Yeah, i think there's a revival goin' on. Although there also seems to be a lot of people who pretend to like classic rock just to try to be cool who aren't true fans. Myself, I can't remember growing up ever listening to anything but classic rock, southern rock mostly.
|
^i do hate the kind of people that try to pretend they like classic rock. but those kinda ppl just make a fool of themselves. like for instance i asked someone what their fav who song was (he was a poser) he said either s tairway to heaven or purple haze.what dumbases these days....
 x1000000000 |

I dont actually want to meet him, I want to cut off his ballsack and hang it on my wall. :thumb: creepy heh. |
yes...but thats what you get for being so clueless in those areas
What are you talking about? |
Poser - that's the stupidiest word, just say stupid ***.
No one should want a Classic Rock revival, you should just want some bands that incorporat the same things Classic Rock bands did. |

Revival
Even if people wanted a classic rock revival i don't think it could ever happen, the music industry is way to ****ed up and commercial now . Led Zeppelin, Acdc and Deep Purple kick ***! :thumb:
|
A revival? That would mean either increased listening to old bands (not gonna happen if they aren't on mtv or played on a radio station that targets the youth) or new bands trying to sound like older bands (also not going to happen). That's why vinal is remastered onto cds so we can listen to them forever. No need for good new bands if we have cds from when music was good.

this thread is still alive wow, i can remeber when this thread started before i was an mxer
|
Way before you were an mxer. It's mainly kept alive by the regulars and then n00bs that are new to mx saying that they like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin and then never posting again.
Welcome to the classic rock thread  Now let's get back on topic. |
Well luckily I have a good classic rock station (Q107.1) in Toronto so I don't have to suffer through shyte when I don't have my CD's.
|
Woo, I like Led Zeppelin and AC/DC
Seriously though, I do, its just that AC/DC sounds better coming through Standard D tuning. It was made to be chunky, so why not make it chunky?? |
a lot more compilations
I've noticed a lot more classic rock compilations coming out these days which leads to me think that there is a revival.
I just got the new Allman Brothers compilation "Stand Back." This one is my favorite so far (I think because it sounds more like blues mixed with classic rock) |

W00t we have Q107.3 in calgary. Their "we're keeping it real" **** is a little cheesey but the music is all good. |
Okay since this thread needs some new conversation instead of just weather or not it's a revival and i was reminded of these while i was away for a few days here goes.
Musicals done by classic rock bands... your opinions? These aren't like guys and dolls or anything these are movies that have been made to the music of concept albums, the two that i know of, and have seen being the wall and tommy. Tommy is obviously put to the music of tommy, which as i'm sure most of us know is a concept album by the who featuring this deaf dumb and blind kid. His father died in the war and never had a chance to meet tommy, then his mom gets together with another, very unpleasant man, which I beleive is the cause of tommy's lack of senses. Anyways i quite liked this movie, it was interesting, good music although some scenes were a bit crazy (acid queen and such) it was generally very good. The Wall, obviously based of Pink floyd's "the wall" and set to that music the wall is more disturbing and more sort of confusing (not the best word by I can't think of anyother way to put it) then tommy. Like tommy the main character (a singer named pink[played by bob geldof]) lost his dad in the war. The movie is about not only the death of his father but his experiences with drugs etc... basically i guess the story of his life. There are both "real" scenes and animated scenes and over all the movie is pretty disturbing, i didn't enjoy it as much as tommy, and you definitely have to be in the right mood to watch scene after scene of watching this man's horrible anxiety. |
:( those are like the only two that I know of.
|
The Wall is based on Roger Water's life, if anyone didn't know.
|
I didnt know, thanks :thumb:
|
Indeed a good thing to know.
|
The Wall is based on Roger Water's life, if anyone didn't know.
Kind of but not really. A lot of people think that it's about roger's life however this is untrue, although there are similarities between roger and pink (dad dying in the war being the most obvious). anyways if you've seen the movies or know of others what are your opinions? |
Looks like classic rock really is dead :(
The spirit of classic rock on mx is this thread. |
I think classic rock has always been popular with a certain group of people (mainly musicians), and always will be, even though it left the mainstream. That of course, is what makes it classic, it's longevity and timelessness.

It certainly has longevity, do you think it'll last as long as lets say classical music has? I hope it does, but I think If it were to it would likely only be a very select few bands that are listened to, and it would probably be grouped into a larger period of time, and not nessecarily recognized on it's own. |
^Just think in 20 years though. My kids will be saying "omg leik j00 listen 2 ur parentss musik????? lolololo fagg0rt". :(

That's why you must raise your children on Led Zeppelin and constant beatings. |
i just had to bump the thread.
|
