theres an article about it on thegauntlet.com

Lord Abortion 04-30-2006 04:24 AM

There's nothing on the official site, so I'm disinclined to believe that.

Thornography

New album title explained... exclusive by Dani Filth

Seen as the title 'THORNOGRAPHY' for the new album was released without our knowledge a few days ago, cradleoffilth.com asked the band direct for an exclusive explination as to what it means.

This title represents mankind's obsession with sin and self. The thorn combines images of that which troubled Christ, the crown of thorns, thus intimating man's seeming desire to hurt God and also, of the protecting thorn and the need to enclose a secret place or the soul from attack.
An addiction to self punishment or something equally poisonous.
A mania. Twisted desires. Barbed dreams. A fetish.
An obsession with cruelty. Savage nature.
Paganism over Christianity.

The title can also represent a sexual attraction to religious iconography as in the case of the 'possessed' Lourdon nuns.

I like the title because to me it invokes images of a darker, sexier pre-Raphaelite scene wherein Sleeping Beauty's castle is won and she is awoken by a poisonous kiss.
A darker adult faerytale

That's something that attracts me to Cradle of Filth. The ideas are very mature, and done with great class.

Crysiss 05-02-2006 11:20 PM

Agreed.

When I first seen it, it seemed rather juvenile, but seeing deeper into the back story if it. It seems great.

The Masked Guitarist 05-03-2006 09:18 AM

Lord Abortion 05-03-2006 09:24 AM

No, its's not, but it sounds very interesting.

The Masked Guitarist 05-05-2006 09:21 AM

yes indeed
i wonder if its going to sound better ......

HAIL TRUE METAL 05-05-2006 05:09 PM

sound better than.....

Shadows 05-05-2006 06:40 PM

Thornography? Sounds like I popped in here at the perfect time. New Shadows Fall, new Cradle of Filth. I really like that title, and the story behind it is kickass. It seems like Dani is becoming a better writer as his career goes on. I'm so excited about this new album - he said it would be very rhythmic and borderline thrashy, so I'm hoping for something with a Midian/Damnation brutality to it with a bit of Nymphetamine melody.

HAIL TRUE METAL 05-05-2006 06:57 PM

that sounds like one hell of a CD! nice blend of CoF!

Yeah it does sound like the lyrics are going to be amazing, but Dani Filth always impresses me.

He said that the songs are going to be very catchy though, so I don't know if you would like that or not.

Oh...and in one of their songs they feature the singer from HIM which seems rather unfortunate. :upset:

Despite that, I'll surely be getting this upon its release.

The Masked Guitarist 05-06-2006 08:34 AM

is not King Diamond on one of theses tracks as well ?!?!?!??!?
but i like King i like vocalist that do the highest of the highs or the lowest of the lows so king and dani fit right in there

Thor 05-06-2006 08:35 AM

That would be rather interesting, but that would surely fit a Cradle of Filth album. He's got the high pitched vocals to match.

Where did you hear this from?...because I'm pretty sure that sputnik news bulletin didn't say anything about him being in it.

The Masked Guitarist 05-06-2006 08:37 AM

wikipedia under Kind diamond ill try to get a link quick

The Masked Guitarist 05-06-2006 08:40 AM

Also in late 2005, King Diamond lent his vocals to a Cradle of Filth song, "Devil Woman". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Diamond
damnit i keep on double posting
\ starts smashing his head on to the desk!

There's nothing wrong with catchy as long as they have the creativity and technicality to go along with it. CoF never disappoints there.

I'm really tired of everyone immediately dismissing the album because Ville Valo is involved. I'm not saying you are, but some are virtually boycotting the album all because one guy has a very minimal part in the album. It's ridiculous.

Lord Abortion 05-06-2006 09:11 AM

Yeah, he sings a backing vocal on "The Byronic man"

Apocalyptic Raids 05-06-2006 09:18 AM

King Diamond guest vocals redeems any credibility that would be lost by featuring that other guy.

I'm not saying that I boycotting the album, I'm just saying that the song will probably end up annoying me because I'm sick and tired of HIM.

You never know until you give it a listen.

You're right, but I can still have an opinion and create a guess as to whether I'd like it or not.

HAIL TRUE METAL 05-06-2006 11:53 AM

Predictions never have to be right. I'm hoping for this album to kick some a$$

It's not like the guy is taking over Dani's place or anything. He's just doing some guest singing on one song.

Thor 05-06-2006 12:33 PM

Well I know that. I'm not trying to start an argument here, I'm just saying that I think it won't be as good as the other songs on the album.

Huber 05-06-2006 12:37 PM

He'll probably sing choruses or something in one of the songs. I don't really like HIM either, but who cares. Maybe he can add a nice touch of vox.

HAIL TRUE METAL 05-06-2006 04:14 PM

I can't really see how Villie Valo would do in a CoF song. i actually wanna hear it
